23 This is a common question asked by parents. Some get rather frustrated that their child has to repeat some levels several times. Swimming involves many gross motor skills which for some kids can take repeating a skill many times before they can do the skill to the level required. Consider when a child learns to walk, they don t get up and walk without some progressions and an opportunity to practice the skill over time. When a child learns to walk they also get many opportunities to practice the skill. With swimming, they are restricted to the times they are at the pool. Whether a child has taken preschool lessons before youth lessons also has an impact. Without the basic skills learned in Preschool lessons, a child in Swim Kids 1 may take a few times to complete the level when we teach a child to ride a bike we usually start with training wheels...learning without takes more time to learn those basic skills. With Preschool lessons, the parented levels are based on age. Children at this age are taught the skills that are appropriate for this age. They don t move to the next level until they are old enough for the gross motor skills in that level. When a child doesn t complete a level it isn t that they failed. They learned a lot of valuable skills, became more comfortable in the water and are progressing to where they need to be. We feel it s important that kids understand this. If your child does not complete a level after three times, at the Camrose Aquatic Centre, we will offer you a free private lesson to try to get the skills complete. Private lessons are available at the Aquatic Centre. Book your lesson now at the Front Desk Cost: $33.50 per Half Hour Semi-private are also available, add $16.75 per child.
