The teachers feel our students really want to help others in our local community, so we have chosen toiletries to collect in these next 40 days. If you are able, please be generous as you go shopping with your children. Talk to them about which toiletries to purchase for those without a home. Allow them to be part of this service project - maybe they can earn some allowance to use to purchase the items. There is no competition for this service project between classes or grade levels. It is simply a way to help those less fortunate than us. Please bring into your classroom teacher as you can. Imagination Station will be our presenter. Come and learn behind the scenes the science behind why things blow up!!! Diocesan and State Testing

We began testing this week. We will continue testing (MAP - Diocesan Test and/or AIR -State Test) throughout the first week of May. With that in mind, students will have less homework assigned. Teachers are working together to make sure that there is not too much due on any single day. Teachers may assign projects that may take a few days or even a few weeks to complete. Please help your child learn the importance of time management. Projects cannot be completed well in one night. There are a few ways for parents to help: 1. Talk to your child(ren) nightly about what is due the next day and what projects or assignments are coming up in the near future. 2. Make a calendar that can be put on the fridge with due dates. Make the due dates stand out! 3. Check your child's assignment pad. 4. Check Gradelink. If you need Gradelink login information, contact Mrs. Abel. 5. Go over the weekly classroom newsletter with your child. 6. Please make sure your child is getting enough sleep and eating breakfast. Doing these things can help your child be more successful taking tests and getting assignments complete. Parents of 6 th Graders Ohio School Vaccination Requirements include a Tdap vaccine booster shot and a Meningitis shot for all children entering the 7 th grade. Please see the letter from Nurse Lori and the Shots-4-Tots & Teens calendar. There will be a Shots-4-Tots clinic at St. Luke s Hospital during our Easter Break on Thursday, April 20 th. Forward a copy of the vaccination documentation to our school and keep a copy for your records. Announcement from The Ohio Ophthalmological Society We wanted to let you know about an exciting opportunity to provide free prescription goggles to children in Ohio through the Ohio Ophthalmological Society's Play Hard. Don't Blink. sports eye safety program. Over 45,000 sports and recreation-related eye injuries occur each year with more than half suffered by children. These injuries may cause loss of vision or complete loss of an eye. Ninety percent of these injuries can be prevented if a child wears the proper eye protection. If they are already used to wearing glasses every day in school and at home, let's make sure they are wearing the correct safety glasses on the field or on the court. In order to qualify, children must meet the following requirements: The child must reside in the state of Ohio. Children must be between the ages of 4-18. The smallest eye/frame size we carry is 48/17. Children must currently have a refractive error or more serious eye condition and wear or should be wearing glasses or contact lenses. Child's family s total gross household income must be at or below 300% of poverty (in 2015-16 for a family of four this would be $72,750/yearly or $6,063/monthly). For more information on how to get free prescription goggles for youth in your schools, please visit: www.playhardgear.com.
