Where everybody is somebody Term 4 Week 1 Friday 9 th October 2015 Message from the Principal Dear families, Welcome Back! At assembly on Monday it was lovely to see all the students back. There was an excited buzz in the courtyard as everyone reunited for the term ahead! Term 4 holds a lot of excitement with our Carnival just around the corner! You will find a term overview accompanying the newsletter today. Most events will be on the calendar, although there may be some additions as the term goes on. Twilight Carnival Not long now! This time in two weeks we will be busy setting up for the Twilight Carnival! There has been a lot of planning over an extended period of time and we are all looking forward to seeing that hard work pay off with a fun and successful evening. I really hope everyone can find a way to be a part of it, helping out on a roster, shopping at the stalls, joining in the fun and supporting our school. There is plenty of information in the newsletter to update you. Swimming Swimming yes/no notes were due today and next week we will be planning our swimming roster. If you have not brought your note back yet but do want your child to participate in swimming, please return it as soon as possible. Once the numbers are confirmed, it may not be possible to add extras in as we plan bus routes and class groupings accordingly. At this stage we just need your indication of attendance, permission and medical forms can follow with payment in the next few weeks. Walkathon Our Walkathon last term was a great success! The rain just caught us in the last 5 minutes, but students did a fantastic job. There were fast and slow walkers, joggers and runners and some that had some rests along the way, but still cheered on the passing parade. Thank you to everyone who has returned their walkathon sponsorship already. So far we have raised $1545.10. If you haven t brought your money back yet, don t worry, it s not too late! continued on next page To Do Notes / Forms / Reminders Return Yes / No form for Swimming Program Return Prep/1 Night of Fun permission form and $10.00 Pay Term 3 Keyboard Fees Pay Term 4 Books & Resources Levy ($62.50) and any outstanding charges from Terms 1 to 3

Message from the Principal continued Artist in Schools If you ve been around on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon you may have heard the lovely sounds of our Sonic Cubbies! Thanks to an Artist in Schools Grant David Murphy, (Flynn s dad) has been working with the Year 3 students over the past month and the project is starting to really take shape! I am amazed every time I walk past to see how a pile of recycled materials can be transformed into a musical creation. We are planning a special launch of the Sonic Cubbies on Friday 23rd October. More details will follow soon. Softball Today our softball team competed in a final at McIntosh Reserve Altona. They played a strong match, winning 17-5 against Seaholme Primary School. The team will now advance to the next round in a match to be played next week. The date is still to be determined. Hats We still have a few children not brining hats to school. Please make sure your child has a hat. There will be many sunny days ahead and it is very important to us that we are all being sunsmart outside. Front Garden During the school holidays, the front garden bed was transformed! Thank you to Rachel, (Daniel s mum) who orgranised for this to happen. We would also like to thank Andrew from Hobsons Bay Council for the plants, guards and support planting them. If anyone is able to help out with watering during some hot days ahead, please let us know and we can direct you to the hose and tap. Frog Pond This week a pump and fountain have been added to our frog pond area. It will be operational during recess and lunch times for the children to watch and looks absolutely beautiful when it is going. Thank you Steve (Maddie s dad) for doing this today. Jackie Green Principal
