Leave for Kitulgala. Kitulgala Water Rafting. Kitulgala is a small town in the west of Sri Lanka. A rain forestry area, which gets two monsoons each year, and is one of the wettest places in Sri Lanka. Nevertheless, it comes alive in the first three months of the year, especially in February, the driest month. The Academy Award-winning movie The Bridge on the River Kwai was filmed on the Kelani River near Kitulgala, although nothing remains now except the concrete foundations for the bridge Kitulgala is the base for white-water rafting in Sri Lanka. Having a little break after the long journey from Colombo and get down to a mind blowing rafting experience amongst the shooting wild rapids at
Kithulgala. This two-hour rafting expedition will cover about 7km, which includes 2/3 graded rapids. Stay at leisure. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kitulgala. Day 02 Kitulgala- Dambulla Travel Time Approx. 3hrs 4hrs After an early breakfast leave for Belilena. Cycling / Walking to Belilena. Belilena is a very large cave, in which the 12,000 year old skeletal remains of the prehistoric Balangoda man (Homesepiens Balangodensis) have been found. In order to reach the cave you have to walk through the jungle, close to the Inoya estate (approx. 8 km from Kitulgala itself). Leave for Sigiriya. Visit the Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Climb the 180-meter rock which was a royal citadel for nearly 20 years. This great exiting site is nearly one hectare in extent. The rock fortress was built by King Kashyapa who killed his father to gain his wealth. This wonderful fortress is a masterpiece of artistry. Sigiriya has been made famous throughout the world for the frescoes on its rock wall and advanced water system. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kitulgala.
Day 03 Hot Air Ballooning a.m Hot Air ballooning is seasonal and can be done only during the months from November to April. Balloon flights in Sri Lanka are currently done only at sunrise when the climate is cool and the winds are calm. Pick-up times will be as follows : 5.15 am Dambulla Passengers will be picked in order to be at the launch site at 6.00 am sharp Late comers may miss the flight. No refunds if you miss the flight in this manner. The take-off time is 6.10 am (at sunrise). Flight time is one hour (sometimes could be plus or minus) depending on the weather. While in the air you may take as much photos and videos as you please. The place of landing will not be the take-off point. Balloons fly from A B and B C. At landing, The Champagne Toast, juice and water and socializing moment with new friends. After which you will be taken back to your hotel. Passengers are advised to keep 3 3 1/2 hours for the ballooning excursion. Ballooning is totally weather dependent and a flight could be cancelled at the take-off site. The Pilot has the final say, if he feels it is not safe to take off the ground. Overnight stay at a hotel in Dambulla.
Day 04 Dambulla- Kalpitiya Travel Time Approx. 3hrs 4hrs. After breakfast leave for Kalpitiya. The Kalpitiya peninsula on the north-west coast of the island of Sri Lanka, 120 km north of the capital Colombo, is one of the most beautiful and least developed coastal stretches in Sri Lanka. This narrow strip of land is separated from the mainland by the Puttalam Lagoon on one side and the Indian Ocean on the other and is home to natural habitats of diverse fauna and flora. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kalpitiya. Day 05 Water sports in Kalpitiya Kite Surfing After breakfast you can do the water sport in Kalpitiya Lagoon. Kalpitiya is quickly gaining recognition within the kite surfing community as a top destination for the sport. Although kite surfing is possible throughout the year in Kalpitiya, wind conditions are best between May and October. Kayaking
For slightly more leisurely recreation, try kayaking along the coast! Get a different perspective of the area as you soak in the atmosphere in silence. It s the perfect way to wind down after a day s activities and will leave you soothed and refreshed for the evening ahead. Dolphin Watching November to March is the generally the season for dolphin watching as this is when the seas are calmest. During this period, literally thousands of dolphins can be observed in large pods. Dolphin watching excursions usually begin at sunrise and last 2 to 3 hours.
