Manhattan Youth is, once again, excited to bring to ESMS another year of exciting after-school programming! Welcome back 7th and 8th grade parents and welcome to all of our new 6th grade parents! Please review the following document closely as a few things have changed for the 2015-16 after-school program and registration process. This document is for PLANNING PURPOSES ONLY. YOU CANNOT REGISTER WITH THESE FORMS. I've had many requests this year for an online registration form and I am extremely happy to say that the ESMS after-school registration system will officially launch on AUGUST 1st. On August 1st, you will be able to register your child for ALL after-school activities. Please don't use this document to register your child for after-school. You will receive an e-mail on August 1st containing a link to the new online registration platform. Information to consider before online registration opens on August 1st. This packet contains a sample of what will be offered next year. Please use it to plan for next year's afterschool program. This should put you in the best possible position when registering on August 1st. If your son/daughter is going to be absent from after-school, please send an e-mail to Fraiha@Manhattanyouth.org We consider our after-school program to be an extension of the regular day. In fact, most of our after-school teachers are ESMS teachers. We expect students to follow the same rules and procedures they would during the regular school day. All Activity Selection Sheets will be due no later than September 1st. All essays to be considered for our Mock Trial Team, our Debate Team and our After-School Executive Council will be due September 1st. Information regarding that process can be found on page 11. All important dates (try-outs, auditions etc.) can be found on page 10. You will receive an e-mail detailing your child's after-school selections no later than September 7th. Priority for popular clubs will go to returning 7th and 8th graders. Also, beginning the second week of programming, you will begin to receive semi-monthly after-school newsletters containing all important dates and information! After reviewing this packet, don't hesitate to reach out with any questions! Looking forward to another great year of after-school! GO TIGERS! Alex Fraiha Director of After-School Programming Cell: 917-565-7472 E-mail: Fraiha@Manhattanyouth.org

AFTER SCHOOL INFORMATION ESMS CHECK IN AND ATTENDANCE POLICIES After School activities begin at 3:20pm. Students have 10 minutes to gather their things or eat the provided snack in the cafeteria. Students who do not check in with an after school staff member by 3:30pm will not be permitted to stay for the program. They will either be asked to leave or a parent will be called to pick up their child. If you know your child will be absent from the program or is absent from the regular school day, please send an email to Fraiha@manhattanyouth.org. Frequent unexcused absences may result in your child being dismissed from the program. If a student wishes to change his/her schedule or drop any or all after school activities, a request must be made by a parent/guardian to the after school site director. Students may not simply stop coming to activities. STUDY LAB POLICIES Our program is a service created for both students and parents. Manhattan Youth employs ESMS teachers and multiple team leaders to oversee homework completion. They are available to assist and answer any questions students may have regarding their homework assignments. Students should come prepared with a book to read as well as all homework assignments. Paper and pencils will be provided to students if needed. Study lab will be offered every day except Fridays. TEAM SPORT POLICIES The athletic program at ESMS is divided into three seasons: Fall, Winter, and Spring. All students who play for a team are expected to attend all practices and games with that team. Each student will have to pay an apparel fee for team t-shirts and uniforms. It is the student s responsibility to bring their uniform home for regular washing, have it with them on game days and return it at the end of the season. Students who are unable to attend a practice or game must inform our Athletic Director, Joe Deneroff, with a written note or email from a parent. Students are expected to be prepared for every practice wearing proper attire. Any athlete who is unprepared will not be allowed to participate in the activity that day. Students are expected to adhere to the school s code of conduct, training rules, rules of the game and the ideals of good sportsmanship. When they are playing at home or away they are representing themselves, ESMS and Manhattan Youth. Our coaches' objective is to teach our young athletes to: Play Hard, Play Fair and to Do Well, Win Well and Lose Well. Questions regarding the Athletic Program should be sent to Fraiha@manhattanyouth.org. GO TIGERS! CELL PHONE AND ELECTRONIC DEVICE POLICIES The Manhattan Youth after school program adheres to the NYC Department of Education policies regarding cell phone usage as well as other electronic devices. Personal electronic devices (laptops, tablets, cellphones, headphones, e readers, MP3 players, etc.) are not permitted in school. Student devices seen in the program will be confiscated until the end of the day. Manhattan Youth is not responsible for any lost or stolen devices that your child brings to the program. If you need to get in touch with your child during the after school please call our after school cell phone at: 917 565 7472 or send an email. PARENT VOLUNTEERS We do request that parents refrain from attending the after school program while in progress as it can be distracting to the students. However, Manhattan Youth encourages parents to attend and help chaperone sporting events as it builds school spirit and provides extra supervision when traveling as a team. If you are picking up your son/daughter early from the program, we will escort your child to the front of the building (East 91st Street exit) to meet you.
