St. Pauls Newsletter 22nd September 2015 If you had one shot, one opportunity, to seize everything you ever wanted in one moment, would you capture it or just let it slip? Eminem Camogie All roads lead to Croagh last Saturday evening for the U13 Cup final between St Paul s and Kileedy. Full of expectation and well prepared our girls took to the field of play at 5pm buoyed on by the huge support that had assembled to cheer them on. From the onset we took the game to Kileedy scoring 1-1 within the first five minutes. Kileedy struck back immediately with a couple of well taking points but we were determined not to allow them a foothold in the game. Our defense worked extremely hard to scupper any attempts that Kileedy made to get near our goal and by half time we had a solid lead. Not resting on our laurels we commenced the second half with a new found vigor with each and every player giving a 100% to ensure that we would leave Croagh that evening with a trophy in hand. Goals win matches and in the last 10 minutes of the match we scored three beauties to put the match well beyond the reach of Kileedy. The final whistle brought great scenes of joy and excitement by both players and mentors alike final score 5-08 to 2-03. With the loudest cheer of the evening when team captain Sarah Fitzgibbon proudly accepted our trophy from competition coordinator Brigit Stanley and the group celebrated like the champions they are and headed back to the GAA Club to continue there well earned celebrations after a long season. Team: Niamh Browne, Sophie O Brien, Kathyln Costello, Casey O Brien, Lauren Esson, Aoife Morrissey, Alanna Mc Donagh, Molly Mac Mahon, Fiona Meehan, Jenny Lynch, Fiona O Brien, Sarah Fitzgibbon, Eimear O Keefe, Aisling O Grady, Ailbhe Larkin, Niamh Herbert, Ciara Flahive, Aoife Ryan, Jennifer Wyse, Jennifer Ryan, Tara Nealon, Bronagh Byrne, Aisling Mc Guiness, Fiona Kinnevane Mentors:Mike Lynch, Dermot Morrissey, John Mac Mahon, Jean Costello, Denis O Brien. U13 Hurling This team have a hectic week with all but one match done for the week. They started with a tournament in Ardfert on Sunday where they matched up with some competitive opponents of Glen Rovers of Cork, New castle West and the host club Ardfert. The weather did not dampen the spirits as they came home with the trophy. Photo below is of captain Ddermot Malone accepting the plaque on behalf of his teammates. They next saw themselves on the home pitch on the Sunday evening. It was great to see a break in the rain for the match. They greeted Muroe Boher on the pitch and what followed was an epic battle. Both teams only had 40 minutes to outdo the other and both gave all they had. In the first half St. Pauls got a goal that was questioned due to possibly the only hole in the corner of the net but our eagle eyed umpire was on hand to confirm with the ref. At the other end of the pitch Muroe Boher were able to send the ball over the bar. By the end of the first 20 minutes it was a draw- 1-02 to 0-05. Back on the pitch again St. Pauls got the first point in giving them the lead. The sliotar was up and down the pitch being sent to every corner of the pitch and with Muroe Boher making good on the times it arrived to our backs by getting 2 goals in. St. Pauls forwards were popping the sliotar over the bar. It was a very tight game with a win needed by both teams, St.Pauls pulled out of the pitch with a narrow 2 point lead. 1-10 to 2-05. For the fifth game in 3 days Monday night had the U13 travvel to Doon where they knew they would have it put to them on the pitch and after a heavy battle in the previous days they had to dig deep with the rain working against them they managed to pull it out of the bag and get the win 1-06 to 1-03. this now sees them facing their next match on Wednesday night in the Semi Final against Na Piarsaigh at home at 6.15pm. We would ask suporters to come out and get behind these players. Photos from the Muroe Boher match are on the club website- http://mungretstpauls.com/juvenile-club/u13-hurling-vmuroe-boher-20-sept-2015 U13 Hurling Division 3 (Our U12 team) were away to Ballinacurra Gaels on Wednesday where they suffered a 2 point defeat, they now travel to Croom on Wednesday.

THE U10 COUNTY CAMOGIE BLITZ 2015 The u10 camogie blitz was held on Saturday 19th September. My team was St.Pauls and we had been training for weeks and playing matches to prepare for the blitz. Our coaches were Albert O Grady, Brian O Halloran, Morgan Lyons, Vera O Meara and Teresa Fitzgerald. The morning of the blitz I woke up and looked out the window, I was glad it was not raining. We arrived early in UL to get setup and once everyone had come we got the two banners ready for the team parade and we marched around the main pitch in UL with 25 other teams. Our banner was the biggest and best in the parade. When the parade was finished we found our pitch and we played matches against Blackrock and Monaleen. These were fast and exciting games to play in, the ball moved from end to end at great speed and the supporters cheered all teams. When all matches in our group were played we qualified for the quarter final against Bruff. We played very well in the quarter final but lost by 3 goals to 1. We were all very sad over this but our coaches were very happy on how we played on the day and said that we learned a lot from playing and enjoying the games we played in. Thanks to all who came to support us on the day. By: Eibhlin O Grady. Our Team was: EIBHLIN O GRADY, CLIONA BYRNE, CHLOE O NEIL RACHEL LYNCH,ROSIN O GORMEN, SAOIRSE CASEY, AOIFE LONG, AOIFE LYONS, ERIN O CONNELL, ELLA PAIGE, FAYE O CONNER, CAOIMHE O ROURKE, EMMA FITZGEARLD, ELLE MULQUEEN.

U10 Hurling Sat 19th September our U10 hurlers were on the road again. This time the players travelled to Holycross-Ballycahill in Tipperary. We had two teams competing. The A team were in a group with Clonoulty/Rossmore (Tipperary), Clough Ballacolla (Laois) and JK Brackens (Tipperary). The team played extremely well and defeated both Clonoulty/Rossmore and Clough Ballcolla comprehensively. All 14 players in the panel played these games. In our last game we were missing Marcus Lyons who picked up a bad injury in his left hand and sat out the JK Brackens. In this games the players played some good hurling but conceded three easy goals but only lost out by two goals in the end. This meant that we qualified to meet Holycross A team in the A semi-final. This was a very hard fought game where none of the decisions went our way. We led at half time but a very dubious referee decision turned the game in local direction and the team went down by two goals. All players on the day played very good hurling but we learnt a lot to take back to the training ground. The players who stood out on the day were Diarmaid Hynes in goals, Fintan Fitzgerald and Marcus Lyons in midfield, Luke Walsh and Muiris Ahern in the forwards. The B team were defending this title which won last year. In their first game against Durlas Og they were very unlucky to lose out by two points. The players again tried their best but the luck was not on their side. In their second game they played the Clonoulty Rosmore B team. In the game all players really stepped up and performed fantastically where goals galore were had. The star players here were Darragh Johnston and Jake Stack in the backs, Sean Duff who marshalled midfield, Amy O Halloran, Adam Dore (who played in goals except for second half of the second game where he scored three wonderful goals), Darragh Hogan and Conor Smith in the forwards. Thanks to Holycross-Ballycahill GAA Club for hosting a wonderful tournament. Thanks to all players on the day for representing their team and club so well. We are very proud of them. Thanks again to all the parents for thier support. Players on the day were: Diarmaid Hynes, Conor Morgan, Tom Lloyd, Cian Moloney, Conor Collins, Brian Hassett, Fintan Fitzgerald, Marcus Lyons, John Wright, Luke Walsh, Jack Hannon, Muiris Ahern, Cian Baggott, Adam Dore, Conor Johnston, Conor Smith, Darragh Johnston, Sean Morrissey, Sean Duff, Jake Stack, Amy O Halloran, Conor Galligan, Darragh Hogan, Jake O Sullivan, Amir Almukhtar. Training will continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30pm. We will be hosting our own U10 Hurling Tournament on Sat Oct 3rd. U16 Camogie Very proud of these young women who took on Na Piarsaigh in Na Piarsaigh and put everything they had into this game. Unfortunately for the girls they were not victorious but everyone of them played a great match, one they should be very proud of. We look forward to seeing these girls take on more teams in the future. Photos from this match are on http://mungretstpauls.com/camogie/u16-camogie-fianl-v-na-piarsaigh-16th-sept-2015

Congratulations We are always sorry to have to say goodbye to players, Darragh O'Brien (grandson to President Pa and Teresa O'Brien) left our club as an Intermediate hurler to work in Australia a few years ago. Word has gotten back from down under that Darragh, who follows the clubs progress from family and the weekly newsletter, is still practicing and has not lost his touch as he travels next Wednesday from Australia to the State Games in New Zealand representing his new home Australia in hurling. St. Paul's would like to congratulate Darragh and wish him the best of luck in the games. In the photo Darragh is on the left accepting an award for his Hurling sportsman ship.
