Congratulations to Michele Austin and Virginia Giokas for winning the Women s League, Mike Fuss and Fred Geoffrion for winning the Men s Tuesday League, and Tom Mitchell and Ed Prystupa for winning the Men s Thursday League. The Mackintosh / Mattson Four-ball Tournament is an annual tradition on Labor Day weekend. This year we were blessed with great weather conditions, fantastic golf course conditions, and eight full flights of participants. Thank you to all the members and their guests who helped make this year s event successful. I would also like to thank our member volunteers who impressed our guests with their efforts; Michele Austin, Jan Freeman, Tom Guerra, Bill Hick, Bob Law, Bob Lucas, Jack Lyons, Tina Miller, Vaughn Rist, and Mike Stallings. The final Couples Nine & Dine event of the sea- HOUSE COMMITTEE Wow, that was fast. Seems like it was just yesterday we were playing in the delayed-delayed Opening Scramble. Now Four-Ball is in the rear view mirror. Speaking of the Four-Ball, at the risk of sounding redundant, KUDOS to Scully catering and their entire staff for making CCW s premier event worth every penny. The food alone was worth the price of admission with the highlight being the Saturday evening gala. Any member who sat this out without a good excuse missed one of the main reasons we belong to CCW. Special thanks to all the staff of CCW for always smiling and being available throughout the four days catering to all our needs. I just received my bar bill, Yikes, they did a good job! I hope everyone has noticed the new awning over the new scoreboard. A big CCW Thanks to Bob Lucas who generously kick-started the campaign with special recognition to the CCW House Committee for stepping up with donations and to Bob Marley for passing the hat during a Cote Cup rain delay. by Dean Helm son will take place on Friday, September 12 th with the annual Glow-ball Scramble. This is a great opportunity to bring some friends to the club and always a fun night playing golf in the dark. Enough about things ending, we still have three months of golf weather ahead of us. Thursday night Sweeps Golf will begin on Thursday, September 4 th and continue into the fall. This is open to men and women members looking to extend their week night golf. They will play 9 holes of golf and enjoy some drinks and food with friends in the dining room afterward. Daylight is coming a little later in the morning, and leaving us a little earlier in the evening lately. Beginning Monday, September 8 th, the first daily starting time will be 7:30 am. The golf shop and practice facilities will open no later than 15 minutes prior to the course opening. The golf shop will close at 6 pm. The bag room will also close at 6 pm or when the last cart is returned. by Chuck Camerlin Now that the days are shorter and it will be getting cooler, please don t forget to support your course. With the addition of the NFL network, Thursday night is Game Night at CCW. Grab some friends and neighbors (nonmembers always welcome) and catch some football and good times every Thursday night. Plenty of opportunity to stay connected even if your clubs have been put away. The Friday evening dinners and Sunday Breakfast will continue throughout the year. Don t forget, until the course closes, the dining room will stay open. Lunch is a great option during the week. There has been chatter about a winter pitch league, anyone wanting to step up and get this going, let me know. We can work with the restaurant and the club to put aside an evening for cards and camaraderie, another opportunity to bring some non-members in to experience why CCW is the place to belong. As always we welcome comments and suggestions. It s on The House!

HANDICAP COMMITTEE Here s a question that always comes up but no one is ever sure of the answer. If I m taking a drop do I get one club length or two? The general rule of thumb to go by is if it s a free drop you take one club length and if it s a penalty stroke than you get two club lengths. Another area that is brought up a lot is the pine grove on the 8 th hole. This year it has been played as no relief. But because of all the manmade debris you take a free drop to the nearest point of relief no closer to the hole. Quiz for September 1. Page 4 SENIOR MEN S GOLF The Silver Knights have completed their 2014 Interclub schedule. Unfortunately, August was not kind. Our senior men suffered two losses during the month. Both were road losses. First, was a 6 ½ to 3 ½ defeat to the Amherst Legends. That course, with its lightning fast greens, has traditionally been a tough challenge for our guys. Two weeks later, the Knights travelled to Greenfield and again suffered defeat, 23 ½ to 12 ½. No excuses; we didn t play well. For the year, the Silver Knights won four, and lost four matches. While the Interclub matches may be over for the year, there are still some noteworthy events on the senior schedule. On September 24th, the club will hold its annual Rocking Chair tournament. This event is an 18 hole, net score competition, GOLF COMMITTEE There is a lot of golf left to the 2014 golf season. Fall is such a great time of the year to play.
