The League of American Bicyclists is leading the movement to create a Bicycle Friendly America for everyone. As leaders, our commitment is to listen and learn, define standards and share best practices to engage diverse communities and build a powerful, unified voice for change. For more information or to support the League, visit www.bikeleague.org Hey BCC Family! DEAN ZENONI, MSgt. USMC, Ret. USA Cycling Coach Level 2 Bonneville Cycling Club Road Captain I d like to thank everyone for their patience as I assume the role of Road Captain for the remainder of the 2018 cycling season. I was able to spend some time in Las Vegas and do some riding with Don and Mary Margaret Williams. I have been holding off on publishing dates for A-Z ride leader trainings until I was able to get additional information about the trainings from Don. Our next trainings will be Sunday April 29 th at 10:00 AM & Monday April 30 th at 7pm. The facility these trainings will be held at is limited on space and session size will be limited to 20 participants. If both these sessions fill up, I will schedule another session the following week. Balanced Art Multisport (BAM) HQ Also, home of the Bike Shed! 489 Parkland Drive Sandy, UT, 84070 Please RSVP by emailing me at roadcaptain@bbtc.net Please let me know which session you plan to attend. If you have previously only hand typed cue sheets and building routes using a maping software like ridewithgps is new to you, I will cover this during the training. If you bring your lap top, we can have additional training following the session and I will work with the group or one on one, as needed. Additionally, during this time, if you have a GPS head unit and you do not know how to down load maps and use your GPS enabled head unit for navigation, we can cover these topics as well.
Road Tip! DEAN ZENONI, MSgt. USMC, Ret. USA Cycling Coach Level 2 Bonneville Cycling Club Road Captain I purchase bike tubes that have a removable valve core and I will add a bit of sealant to my tubes to help prevent flats. What do you need: Just a valve core remover tool & sealant. Here are some photos to show you how. Add the sealant after the tube is installed in your wheel. Once the tube is installed in your wheel, inflate it once just to make sure it is seated properly. Let out the air remove the core and add some sealant. You only need 1-2oz in a road bike, 700c tube. This is a situation where more is not better! Re-inflate. Once you have sealant in a tube, when adding air make sure the valve is in the 12 o'clock position to prevent sealant from running out. Photos on work bench just show the steps to remove the valve core. Although this does not guarantee not getting a flat, I have had good success with minor punctures. Free Slime opportunity.
BCC Membership Update March 2018 Barbara DeBry Membership Chair 2018 Membership is starting to warm up with spring now in full swing. We welcome new members Cheryl Wiesenberg and Ivan Marrero to BCC! Stacy Walker is our new Board Member in the Secretary position for the club. We found out some fun details about Stacy! Stacy was born and raised her whole life right here in beautiful Utah. This is her third season of cycling but she says she rode her ten speed as a teenager everywhere. She really enjoys riding near or in the mountains and canyons, and of course she loves riding Little Red. Her favorite food is a homemade hamburger with all the fixings.she says if she could ride her bike anywhere she would love to ride in Iceland! She s heard it s It just spectacular. Stacy is kind of spooked by left turns!! The scariest thing that ever happened to her biking was when a squirrel that ran in front of her that she barely missed riding up Hobble Creek Canyon. She also said I had to dodge some cows walking in the road, really made my heart jump out of my chest!! We also asked current BCC Member Richard Marich what he likes about the club. He says that "BCC is a fun bunch of people to ride with and many rides to pick from". Ride on! Summer is around the corner

Bonneville Cycling Club and Death Valley Cheryl Holden newsletter The winter blues gets us as cyclists so where did some of us BCC members with friends and family head to at the end of February. Yes, to Death Valley National Park, California. A great thanks to those who made this trip possible. As we made our plans of course most of us changed our beginning date because of our Bonneville Cycling Club Annual Awards Banquet happened on the Saturday we were planning on arriving to Death Valley. (Glad some of us were able to do both.) As Steve and I left
we thought we were leaving the snow behind... nope the week we were there it did snow in the higher peaks of Death Valley, and it rained and the wind did blow! AS our group was there we were able to get some nice rides in to: Artist Loop, Harmony Borax Works, Badwater Basin (the lowest point in United states), Mormon Point, and Beatty Loop. We were also able to get some good hikes and sightseeing of the Keane Mine. It was a great week with people that enjoy cycling and sitting at the campfire. Most of us also chose to leave a day early to avoid the bad weather in traveling back to Salt Lake City. (It was so windy that day when we left that Steve s truck door blew off when he opened it, we were able to close it, but we couldn t open it until we got it fixed once we were home!) (thank you, Maria Fruin, for sharing your pictures)
Our BCC Store Tim Sandall member @ large Did you know we have a club store? Really? We brought it up in a board meeting and few of the board member were not aware of it. All you need to do is click on bccutah.org and go to clothing and shop! Could it be easier? Although it says "we have ordering periods" we always have a pretty good supply in stock. It also says to get in touch with Peter Westbrook (thank you Mr. Westbrook for taking on the store for the last few years). Now, tell us (Tim or Liesa Sandall) what you d like, we ll make arrangements to get you your order. Call Tim Sandall at (801) 891-6858. Or Email: da-man111@hotmail.com or liesaburdett@yaho.como We also have a few things in stock that are not on the site. Hi-Viz (yellow) club jerseys and women sleeveless wind vests. I guess we need to get with our web-master and get it up dated. We do not have any shorts in stock, because they have not been requested for quite a while. We could order some if there is some interest. Email me and let me know if we should order some. Now, let s ride in style. We look sharp when we are riding as a club in club kits! Order your gear! And show what our club looks like in 2018!
