NEWSLETTER March 2016 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE The restaurant appears to be doing well and has been a welcome addition to HCC. We are working with them to sponsor upcoming outside events including the fourth of July. Announcements should be forthcoming in the newsletter. We are going to try and use any monies raised to fund improvements around the Club. We have several small projects the Board is tracking that we plan to address this year as funds can be made available. The lining of the pool, the bar floor, the finishes in the bathrooms, repair of the tennis court lighting and striping the parking lot to name just a few. We will have the bar floor addressed before the golf season starts. We are also attempting to have the lining in the baby pool addressed before the pool opens. The Pool Committee is gearing up for another successful season. They are anticipating an even greater turn out for the swim team. See the swim committee s report in this newsletter for details. The Golf Committee has posted the golf schedule on the website with their first event later this month. The Committee in concert with Joe, have some new programs they will be implementing this year. More details are available in their report. We continue to work diligently to attracted new members. Anyone who can lend a hand should contact Kelly Bates. Again, recruitment by the Membership is key to our long term survival. We are offering incentives to any Member who successfully recruits a new member. See the Member section for details. NEWSLETTER March 2016 HANDICAP POSTING As we begin our 2016 golf season, please be reminded that the USGA requires that all scores be posted. At HCC scores may be posted on the computer in the clubhouse or on www.msganetwork.org. Unless told otherwise, you are expected to post your own scores. For rounds played in Maryland, the active season for posting scores is March 15 thru November 15. The active golf season in other states may vary. If you play in another state during their active season you are expected to post your scores. Nine hole and eighteen hole scores are required to be posted. For incomplete rounds, if you play less than 7 holes don't post a score. If you play between 7 and 12 holes post a nine hole score. If you play 13 or more holes post an eighteen hole score. To figure your score on unplayed holes, add par to the number of strokes you would normally receive on the hole based on your handicap. The USGA has developed a method for adjusting scores to make handicaps better represent each player's potential called Equitable Stroke Control (ESC). ESC specifies the maximum score a player may record on a hole when considering their score for entry into the handicap system. This applies when the actual score or most likely score exceeds the maximum number listed in the table below: Player's Course Handicap Maximum Strokes Per Hole 9 or less Double Bogey 10-19 7 20-29 8 30-39 9 40 and above 10 Starting in 2016, as a change to the USGA guidelines, rounds played ALONE are NOT to be posted in the handicap system. The accompanying person need not be playing for the round to be counted in the handicap system. Per USGA requirements, only the person that played the round or the handicap committee (including Joe or his designee) may post a score. If you believe someone is not posting their scores, please see Joe or a member of the golf committee. The purpose of the handicap system is "to make golf more enjoyable by enabling players of differing abilities to compete on an equitable basis". Please remember that we come out to competitions for fun and please do your part to maintain your handicap by posting your scores. More information regardingt the USGA handicapping systems may be found at:
