2018 April Volume 18 Number 4 THIS EDITION OF THE SUN COAST CRUISERS NEWSLETTER IS DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF OUR VERY SPECIAL FRIEND, PEGGY POWELL All my life I have always felt nothing but love from my family, husband, children and friends. I thank God for blessing me in that way! Peggy Powell Page 1
I got some really bad news today I heard that Peggy died. I m sure that just like many I just broke down and cried. She was a special lady She was a special friend. She d brighten every room up Whatever she would attend. Quick with a smile and handshake Quick with a hug and a joke I can t believe she left us Today my heart just broke. I can t remember where we met My memory s short of late I do remember one thing She d steal right off your plate. WE WILL always love YOU She would smile and lick her fingers And giggle while she chewed Her heart would shine right through her shirt While pretending to be rude. I know she s in a special place Where halos are a trend We love you Peggy Powell And that will never end. Doug Walker Page 2
Peggy loved her Sun Coast Cruisers family and she loved to have fun with that family. Page 3
The 4th Annual Jervie Babson/Butch Lane Law Enforcement Appreciation Parade was held on March 24. Starting out at the USS NC Battleship parking lot the parade of 46 classic cars & 6 motorcycles cruised down Hwy 17 to Shallotte with sirens & flashing blue lights. The parade ended at Jerome s Restaurant where everyone enjoyed a buffet lunch. Thank you to all who participated & who donated to help pay for the officers meals. Page 4
SOUTHERN FARM DAYS On March 17 a group of Sun Coast Cruisers cruised up to Lake Waccamaw for the Southern Farm Days show, which is a benefit for the Boys & Girls Home. This is always a fun event for club members. With several other car events taking place in the area we didn t have as big a group as usual but the folks running the show appreciated our support. After parking our cars in the display area with the tractors & other classic cars several of us headed for our favorite areas. Patsy Moore & I went to the antique sales & auction. The sales area was much bigger than in years past & both of us found at least one treasure to take home. Other members headed for the food & crafts & farm animal displays. We all came back in time to watch the tractor parade & the tractor pull contests. Sun Coast Cruisers participating this year were: the Malpasses, Moores, Jacksons, Sullivans, Roger Canady & Sarah, Bobby & Lori Stevens, the Hughes and Richard s brother & his family from West Virginia. Dennis brought several bags of candy to share with the kids. After a day on the farm several of us drove the short distance to Lake Waccamaw for seafood at Dale s Restaurant. The parking lot was so full we had to make a second trip around to find a parking space. Once inside we found ourselves seated with a wedding party. The food was very good & the company was great. Put this on your to do list for next year! Sandra More Pictures If you would like to see more pictures of Sun Coast Cruisers events go to either the Sun Coast Cruisers Facebook page or the website. Not every event is included but many are. If you haven t already done so please be sure to Like our Facebook page & share our posts with your Facebook friends. Kevin Reynolds won the trophy for Best Original Unrestored in the Help For Heroes Car Show. Congratulations Kevin and Carly & any other Sun Coast Cruisers who won a trophy at the show. 2018 BACK TO THE BEACH CAR SHOW HELP NEEDED ASAP Please help sign up sponsors for our car show. Sponsors help pay the bills so that the shows can be financially successful. Small items are needed for door prizes & larger items for the silent auction. Last year s auction was very successful. Lots of volunteers will also be needed to help out the day of the show. Contact Tom Male or Tim Ward if you are willing to help in any way. Thank you Page 6
Next Meeting Saturday May 12 Silver Lake Baptist Church Fellowship Hall 4715 Carolina Beach Rd. 7:00pm MEETING HIGHLIGHTS A scholarship application has been received for Katie Girolami, daughter of Rob & Carey Girolami. This year s 4th of July picnic will be held at the same location in Leland as in past years. John & Teila Harriott have volunteered to head up the picnic committee. They will need help. Mary has been working on advertising for the Back to the Beach Car show & Doug is working with Elaine on the t-shirt design. Sponsors are needed to help pay show expenses. Contact Tom Male or Tim Ward for more info. A meeting will be held soon with all past club executive board members and current board members. New committee chairpersons are also invited. It was suggested that the club create a new position of Club Historian. The SCC is in its 18th year & lots of club history, records, photos, etc. are in danger of being lost if someone doesn t work to preserve these items. Sandra Malpass volunteered to help but someone is needed to serve as Club Historian. Please contact her or Tim Ward if interested. EVERY CLUB MEMBER SHOULD READ THE CLUB BYLAWS. These can be found on the Sun Coast Cruisers website on the home page under the Legal tab. Be sure to check Doug s weekly events list for events not included in the newsletter.
