UPSHOT Communication Pack week commencing 2 December 2016 LILYDALE BOWLING CLUB CHRISTMAS BREAK UP When: Saturday 17 December 2016 @ 6.30pm Where: at the club after pennant Cost: $15 per person Mid week & Saturday teams, Members and Life Members are invited to attend our Christmas Break Up. Chefs2U will be catering for us and will provide roast meats and vegetables and dessert. $15 is payable in advance by all wishing to attend. Leave your name on the list on the notice board for catering purposes.! PAGE 1

Upcoming Events Tuesday 13 December - Mid week break up after pennant - Sacred Heart Children's Choir to sing Christmas Carols from 3.30-4pm. Light afternoon tea provided. Saturday 17 December - Club Christmas Break Up Dinner $15 a head - 6.30pm start Sunday 29 January - Rock and Roll with the Steve Pinzone Trio - $10 per person - 2-5pm Barefoot Bowls - The season has now begun. Greg & Sue, Luke and Gemma are embarking on a great season providing assistance with the cooking of hamburgers, sausages and dim sims. To date we have had the support of many members which makes these events run very well and a rotating roster is starting to take shape. There is a form on the notice board if you have some free time to assist on any one or more of these evenings throughout the season which will now continue on until the end of March. Please keep up the good work to assist with getting so many people onto the greens. It is a great money earner for the club, it introduces new bowlers to the games of lawn bowls and provides us with an opportunity to convert those bowlers to members and sometimes sponsorships. It is also a great feeling working as a team with a common project to promote the club and our facilities. Club Champ Events - Thank you to all team members who are endeavoring to make themselves available to complete the rounds of bowls as scheduled on the notice board in the back room. We have had a bit of a set back with a protest regarding the Club Games and it escalated to the BOM having to arbitrate. Following are the findings of the BOM and I would ask that you all read them and make every attempt to commit to your obligations as written in the club Champ guidelines in your Handbook and on the schedule for the games still to be played. If you find you are not available on a continuing basis, please step out and/or find a substitute. The Board recommends that the following actions be taken into consideration for future games. 1. That there is timely two-way communication between members and the Bowls Committee personnel for members having difficulty fulfilling their obligation to complete games by the gazetted date. Also that if an extension is requested in extenuating circumstances, it is heard with compassion and without bias. 2. That members consider their wording on forwarding a complaint, and do so formally in writing without resorting to poor language and personal insult to endorse their protest. 3. That the scheduled dates are documented prior to the beginning of the Bowls season (printing in the Handbook is desirable) and certainly drawn up before the members pay their entry fees to their chosen games and prior to the draw being held. 4. That the games are scheduled with sufficient time between events to allow for unexpected delays, especially where there is no need to finish before the Champ of Champs events. In this particular case the Board is asking for an extension of the current program to carry over now into the New Year to ensure all of the members can fit their games in with their pre-christmas obligations and family commitments.! PAGE 2

LILYDALE BOWLING CLUB NEWSLETTER EDT 89! 2 DECEMBER 2016 5. That players under duress have the right to appeal, and if an appeal is requested and agreed to all subsequent games cease until that appeal is heard and a decision made. The game in contention has been abandoned in consultation with the players involved, and we thank them for the consideration they have shown other members who have won subsequent games and still have games to play, and for promoting the true team spirit and harmony of the club and its members. The rest of the games will continue on to the finals. It has been an undesirable process that the Board has embarked on and we hope to not be in this situation again. We would ask all members to commit to their obligations regarding these tournaments and have respect for the volunteer committee who endeavour to deliver a viable timetable and program of events in which you may participate. We will entrust the running of the remainder of the Club Champ events to the Bowls Committee to ensure that all players receive equitable and fair consideration in the pursuit of their finals games. We will also ask the members to make every effort to attend and complete scheduled games on time. Lynne Cogan, President, Lilydale Bowling Club 30/11/2016. Selection This photo was forwarded by John Newbound, who like many of us had cause to stop and consider if this was the way the pennant teams were being selected both Midweek and Saturdays!! PAGE 3

LILYDALE BOWLING CLUB NEWSLETTER EDT 89! 2 DECEMBER 2016 BOWLERS ARM TOURNAMENT Well this day was one for the stayers and the real pros who were prepared to brave three games of 12 ends of pairs (2x4x2) in 33+ degree heat. It saw the demise of a couple of players and teams and our very sincere thanks to them for there sustained effort in that heat and our best wishes to them for turning up and giving it their best. Karyn Morgan from our Tournament Committee, did a fabulous job organising the event and the games and cards, and assisting Sue, Nicole, Carli and Leigh in the kitchen preparing a scrumptious lunch with chicken and salads. Our bar staff kept everyone hydrated and thanks for their help. It was a great event with 20 teams entering and the winners taking home $2000 in prizes. Of course we can't do this without the help we receive from our sponsors who were Flight Centre Lilydale, Heritage & Heritage Funerals Lilydale and LEAK Detection in Ringwood. The photos attached are of the Overall winners, Kerrie Ralph from St. James (near Tocumwal) or now Barooga I think, and her pairs partner Allan Walter who came up from Barwon Heads. That is a pretty amazing trip for these guys to commit to and congratulations and well done on winning the day with a +35 score over the three games. Runners up were Peter Wilding (Croydon) and Ron Whittiker (Heathmont), Third place was Doug Corrigan (Ringwood - and a state player) and Ian Kost (Donvale) whom Doug had not met before but had the option of picking up Ian when his team mate had to withdraw at the last minute. Always good to have Douggie there on the day - he is the life and soul of the party and thanks for not letting us down with a side too few. Best first game winners were Norm Dixon and John Bulmer (Drouin) and yes he is our Johnny Bulmer's dad - another great effort and a long trip to come and play. Best second game winners were Jim Yarwood and Peter Toovey (Eltham) and Best Third Game winners were our own home grown heroes Mick Rose and John Snell (Lilydale). Winners K.
