FOOD & BEVERAGE I got this information straight from Glen s mouth, you can safely plant your garden after April 15th. I started planting my seedlings inside on March 10th, and expect to be in the ground by the 15th of April. Growing tomatoes is just a hobby for me, I like Heirloom s, and this year I am experimenting with San Marzano s (Italian Paste Style). I will be planting my San Marzano s upside down in the bottom of 5 gallon buckets that I drilled 2 holes the size of door knobs in. They will then hang from my deck and grow down towards the ground, no cages needed. Production is usually good this way and easy to pick. I will keep you posted on my progress. James Crocitto Director of Food & Beverage Do you like to cook? Would you like to learn some tips and tricks from a master? Have we got something lined up for you! On May 8th at 6 pm Chef Mark will be instructing his very first Turtle Point Cooking Class. The first class is couples and then at a later date, Chef Mark will be teaching just the ladies, men and kids. The classes will take place in the satellite kitchen, space is limited. We have an official date for the 2014 BBQ Competition, August 16th. Get your teams together, and plan your strategies. This year will be fierce with competition. Then, on Sunday, May 25th, we will have an evening buffet. Our annual Memorial Day Picnic will be held on Monday, May 26th. Hope to see you at your Club soon & often! SUPERINTENDENT S REPORT Spring time is well on its way around the golf course. Trees and shrubs are starting to bloom, yellow pollen is in the air, and the grass is trying to green up. This year spring green up will be later than normal due to the cold temperatures we had this winter. However, the staff continues to work on projects around the course as weather allowed the winter projects include: irrigation, tree removal, fan maintenance and sod work. There are still many projects that need to be completed that include: cart path repair, bridge repair on #18, irrigation addition on #6 and tree work. Hopefully, the extended winter this Glen Junkin, GCS Golf Course Superintendent year will allow for all projects to be completed before the heart of golf season arrives The maintenance staff also constructed a nature trail last month that is located on the eastern side of the property that is a ½ mile in length. It begins north of the cart barn and comes out close to #4 tee. We have ordered signs for both the entrance and the exit so everyone will be able to find it. In one last note, we have hired Randy Gatlin as the new assistant superintendent. Randy is an Auburn graduate and a former employee of RTJ of the Shoals. If you see him around the course, please introduce yourself to him. As always, please follow the cart rules. Fix your ball marks and Randy Gatlin Assistant Superintendent sand your divots to help keep the golf course in great shape.

FROM THE BRIDGE Phil Lyons Commodore Greetings from the Yacht Club: I am very excited about our 2014 boating season, and the fun activities we hope everyone will be able to participate in this year. We kicked off the season with a tremendous turnout at the Commodore s Ball. We were wined and dined with a delicious meal, and The Midnighters capped off the evening with great music. I hope you will join us on May 17th for our Dock Party. The theme is going to be Cheeseburgers in Paradise, so join us for some fun that even Jimmy Buffet would be envious of! Be sure to check the Voice of the Turtle monthly for scheduled events in the Club and on the Quarterdeck throughout the boating season. See you on the Dock!
