Dribble Drive Motion Offense Interpreted from DVD s by: Herb Welling (Asst. Coach: Omaha Central H.S. ) Presented by: Jerry Auger This offense is a four out/one in drive and kick motion offense. We hate the pull up jump shots.we love lay ups and three point shots! Player Positioning: 1 Catalyst; main penetrator, makes reads between half court and the three point line as to which side to attack. Once the point picks a side everyone else reads off of that. 2 Best shooter; better slasher/penetrator; needs to read what 1 does 3 Big Forward or second guard 4 Next best driver and pretty good three point shooter 5 Center who plays off the penetration of the 1 usually on the weak side block or short corner. 3 Side of the Floor 2 Side of the Floor 1/12 6/2/2008 Dribble Drive Motion Offense

Breakdown Area: Circle between guards where we make a lot of decision making as to which side of the floor we are going to attack. The main goal is to continually attack the basket. The drop zones and rack zones represent areas on the floor that we are going to operate from by attacking the basket and working off of two foot jump stops. This gives us the ability to attack while not leaving our feet and retaining the ability to kick out (ie. Steve Nash). Our actions at each of these four read spots will dictate how the offense is executed. 2/12 6/2/2008 Dribble Drive Motion Offense

Continuity when attacking drop zone 2: Continuity when attacking drop zone 3: 3/12 6/2/2008 Dribble Drive Motion Offense

Options out of the drop zones: Option #1 Option #2 Option #3 Option #4 Option #5 Option #5 (cont d) 4/12 6/2/2008 Dribble Drive Motion Offense

Continuity when attacking the rack zones: Options and Reads out of Rack 2 Motion: As one drives hard into the two zone looking to score or get fouled everyone else is spotting up and reading the defenses reaction to 1 s penetration. 2 spots up. 5 is getting ready to receive the ball for a weak side lay up and seeing how he s being played. 4 replaces 1 for a crack back and 3 shapes up in 4 s spot for possible kick out. 1 is like a quarterback who drives hard, two foot jump stops looking to score in the lane and then if no shot is available looks to pass to 5,2,4&3. 1 does a front right pivot checking out the options. Four Passing Options out of Rack 2 5 s man helps across; 1 dumps to 5 5/12 6/2/2008 Dribble Drive Motion Offense

5 s man helps up; 1 lobs to 5 Dribble X Entry: 1 dribbles to nail hole and kick s to 4 and they replace each other and get into our regular continuity. 6/12 6/2/2008 Dribble Drive Motion Offense

Rack 3X Entry: 1 drives hard to the 3 rack; 5 seals up the weak side for the dump or rebound; 3 shapes up for the shot; 4 is ready for the crack back. If none of the five options are available we just go back into motion. Wheel Entry: 1 passes to 2 and the ball is swung back to 1 in the corner looking for a post entry. You need to swing it quickly and 5 needs to screen in and seal. This entry works well against zones. Once 5 has the ball 4 dives to the basket and 2 shapes up on the wing. If there s no shot 4 cuts to the corner and you just get into your continuity. 7/12 6/2/2008 Dribble Drive Motion Offense

Circle Entry: Wave 2 through. We can swing to 2 for a shot or for a post feed to 5. We do the same action on post entry as before; 4 dives and 1 shapes up. X Entry off the Pass: 1 passes to 2 and screens for 4 for a lay up. If nothing is there we just get into motion. 8/12 6/2/2008 Dribble Drive Motion Offense

Driving Baseline: As a rule you don t want to drive baseline. Bad players drive baseline, great players drive middle. Rick Pitino However it can be effective especially against zones. Vs. Aggressive Denying Defense: The point guard determines as he crosses the half court line whether either 2 or 3 are being over played. Drop 2 especially if your 2 is a good scorer and is being overplayed. 2 takes 2 steps up from the corner. 5 clears up to the weak side elbow. 2 doesn t cut up until 1 has jump stopped. 5 Doesn t clear until 1 has jump stopped. Drop 3 if your 3 is a good scorer and is being overplayed. 9/12 6/2/2008 Dribble Drive Motion Offense

Chin Entry: Princeton (elbow entry) 5 back screens for 4 for a pas from 1. If that s not open 5 and 1 have a high screen and roll situation. Off ball screens your first option is always to turn the corner and drive hard to score as a ball handler. The screener needs to wait for 2 dribbles and roll to the hoop. 4 Through: 4 cuts through to the strong side corner giving the point guard the whole floor to operate from by spreading the floor. 1 Through: Looking to attack the 2 side of the floor 10/12 6/2/2008 Dribble Drive Motion Offense

Phoenix: 4 cuts through; 5 sets a high flat screen for 1 so he can cut either way. You can pick and roll or pop depending on your 5 s capabilities. 43 & 42: Stagger away to get a hot shooter open or get a dump down into the post. 11/12 6/2/2008 Dribble Drive Motion Offense

Friar: Gets you some post action and a good high low. 12/12 6/2/2008 Dribble Drive Motion Offense
