The current Session V ends this Friday, April 28, 2017. MILE RUN CHAMPIONSHIP 2017 COMING TO CORBETT PREPARATORY SCHOOL OF IDS It is now beyond question that students who exercise regularly have better nourished brains and higher achievement. ~ (Dr. Spencer Kagan, Brain Friendly Teaching) In perhaps the most comprehensive review of the effect of exercise on the brain, researchers concluded that exercise promoted brain growth and brain function in many ways, including the stimulation of new neural connections and growth of new neurons in the hippocampus, the structure critical for learning and memory. ~ (Dr. Spencer Kagan, Brain Friendly Teaching) The PE team has been working very hard to improve student fitness throughout the year. The students have two chances to qualify during the year for the opportunity to run in the prestigious Mile Run Championship here at Corbett Prep. Students qualify for the Mile Run Championship by running a specific time. The qualifying times are listed below: Intermediate Boys (grades 3-5) 7 minutes and 15 seconds or under Intermediate Girls (grades 3-5) 8 minutes and 15 seconds or under Middle School Boys (grades 6-8) under 7 minutes Middle School Girls (grades 6-8) under 8 minutes This year s Mile Run Championship will be on the Buchanan Sports Field at Middle School on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 9:51 am. Congratulations to all Corbett Prep students who participated in the mile run and to those who qualified for the Championship this year! All students and parents are invited to come out for support and to cheer for these elite runners as they once again make history for Corbett Prep! Remember that it is all about best effort; (trying to go beyond what you think you can do)! See you there! Yours in Good Health, Corbett Prep PE Team 1

CONGRATULATIONS to WARRIORS PRIDE CHORUS Right Before your Eyes, the seventy-one students in Warriors Pride Chorus gave a fantasmarific performance of James and the Giant Peach Jr. These fourth and fifth graders created an impressive two days of performances that soared beyond words of excellence. The joy, smiles and laughter that emanated from the stage to the audience was awe-inspiring for all four performances and for both talented casts! It was a pleasure for Mr. LeBlanc to work with our hardworking and talented Fourth and Fifth Graders. THE BEACH BUDDIES LEARN SCIENCE: GO FLY A KITE by Dr. Julie Omodio-Griess: The Beach Buddies were able to explore the effects of wind during their Kite Day last Thursday, April 20, 2017, on the Middle School Buchanan Sports Field. This was a culminating lesson for the IB unit, Where we are in Time and Place: Weather Patterns, which demonstrated the concept of wind and which objects would fly or fall in the wind. It was a great day of exploring and running with the wind! PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS to ENJOY the PERFORMING and VISUAL ARTS: MAY 11 & 12, 2017 ANNUAL SPRING FINE ARTS WEEK THIS IS A REMINDER THAT OUR SPRING CELEBRATION OF THE ARTS INCLUDES two daytime options to see performances in Gatlin Hall. The two performances are Thursday, May 11 at 1:00 pm and Friday, May 12 at 9:00 am. WE OFFER TWO PERFORMANCES so that parents can choose to be part of the audience for either the afternoon or morning performance. ALL STUDENTS PERFORM BOTH DAYS and all students are represented in the Art Exhibit in the Farish Center. THE ART EXHIBIT OPENS ON MONDAY, MAY 8 AND RUNS THROUGH FRIDAY, MAY 12. It will be great if you plan ahead to leave enough time to tour the art exhibit after either of the performances. You can count on the art exhibit and performances to bring another gigantic dose of joy and pride for your child and all of the Corbett Prep talent. WHAT CAN BE MORE FUN THAN A CORBETT PREP BIRTHDAY PARTY? Do you have an idea for a birthday party? You can bring it to life here at Corbett Prep! Working with party coordinator, Michelle Hill, you can choose from party themes that have already been implemented or design your own party. Parties can be scheduled during the school year and the Summer. Sports themes such as Mat Ball are also possible to execute. Parties include two hours of supervised fun in a secure area and are planned so that you can relax and enjoy yourself during the event. If you are interested in booking a date for your next birthday party, contact Michelle Hill at mhill@corbettprep.com. 2
