Notes From Your President We loved hearing the Valentine stories of Gil and Lois Bartell, Charlie Darling, and Roger Meadows at the February meeting. There are some truly delightful people in our club! I m sure our one week of winter is not the last we ll see. I understand the ski areas in North Carolina are soldiering on as best they can. The March meeting will be devoted to club awards, previously called gag awards. I hope some are hilarious, as always, but serious is good too. If you have an award to present, be sure to let Rich know so you can be on the program. Alison is taking us back to Thai Taste for the minisocial this month. That is traditionally one of our most popular, so be sure to let Alison know so she can have an accurate number for seating. (Sometimes not having a setup for you means someone else has to sit away from the group.) Also, bring your patience and have a drink. It takes a while to serve that many people! The warm weather we re having makes it easy to think about spring and flowers. On March 25 th, we re going to the orchid show at the North Carolina Arboretum. We will have an early lunch and a few libations at Sierra Nevada Brewery on the way. At this one, it s important to be on time since they won t seat our party until we are all there. The last time we went, Mike & I were unexpectedly detained, & we felt so badly that all of you had to wait for us. We ll be early this time. Barbara Congratulations! Newly Elected SSOC Officers 2017-2018 PRESIDENT PAT LEE SECRETARY ALISON KIMBALL VICE-PRESIDENT CONNI HARRELL TREASURER TED MUELLER Page 2

Awards Night Thursday, March 2 nd 7:00 PM Chapman Cultural Center As all of you know we celebrate a lot. We have a good time, enjoy our friends and give back to the community. In March we will celebrate our year by giving some well deserved recognition to our members for their contributions. These awards will be for their work as well as maybe just some observations. There could even be an award such as a gag award. Who knows? You need to be there. You just never know who will be on the receiving end. We welcome any award you may wish to present. Just e-mail Rich at dikdar@aol.com and tell him you are presenting an award. Soft drinks, water and a snack will be available but bring your choice of beverage if you wish. Look forward to seeing you. Mike Rogers Programs Page 3

Look at this cart full of wonderful items our club donated to SafeHomes in February. Ladies, boys, and girls socks, and underwear of all sizes. The rest of the cart is filled with cleaning supplies and paper goods. Yes, cleaning supplies and paper goods. SafeHomes runs like any other home. So if you use it in your home, chances are, they will use it also. Pick up one or two extra items while you're in the store. Remember: socks and underwear for women, boys and girls. Any type of cleaning supplies and paper goods. As always I can't thank you enough for the generosity of items to the wagon and money to the "magic box" and my raffles. We will also deliver another check in March. Joy, Fundraising Page 9

Call Taylor for information on how to submit your newsletter item. Also, don t forget - the club has a tent available for rent. It is an 18 X 20 tent, and it is easy to assemble. We also have 4 tables that can be rented with or without the tent. We have the makings for that special occasion and it is all very reasonably priced! Tent rental is $ 35. Tables can be rented for $5 per table. Remember; don t have a party without the comfort of shade. Your guests will appreciate it and so will the club! For rentals of either tent or tables contact Joy Bobo. The Spartanburg Ski & Outing Club normally meets the first Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM. We are located at the Chapman Cultural Center (West Wing) on East St. John Street in Spartanburg on the first floor. Therefore it is necessary to consult the club web site or a current newsletter for the time and location. April s meeting is held at the Piedmont Club. The club does not provide alcoholic beverages at membership meetings, but members are allowed to bring their own (BYOB) choices of beer or wine.
