Owensboro KY 420303 (270) 685-8480 Fax: (270) 685-3276 www.ca.uky.edu/ces The 4-H Livestock Club helped out at the Kentucky Cattlemen s annual meeting held at the Owensboro Convention Center the weekend of January 23. Some of the older members reported to the Convention Center at 6:15 am that Saturday morning to assist the Kentucky Poultry Federation to prepare omelets for attendees. They had fun and made lots of great omelets! The Kentucky Poultry Federation will make a donation to the club in return.

Daviess County Summer 4-H Camp will be June 6-9, 2016 at West Kentucky 4-H Camp. Camp is open to youth ages 9-15 years of age. The cost is $195 or $185 if paid in full by May 1. The fee includes meals, lodging, transportation and a t-shirt. We filled up quickly last year, especially the boy s cabin. As always we are looking for adults and teens to serve as volunteers at camp. If you are interested please contact us. All volunteers must go through a screening process which includes a background check and an interview. Parents, please be aware we can only accept the number of campers we have the adults to supervise. Please consider serving as a camp volunteer to ensure we can take as many youth as want to attend. If you can t attend, maybe you know someone who can! Beginning in January the Cloverbuds meetings were moved to the first Tuesday of each month at 5:30. For the February meeting the 4-H Cloverbuds will be celebrating Valentines Day. Cloverbuds are asked to create & bring with them a decorated Valentine Box with an opening to deposit cards in. Please bring 20-24 signed cards to share with the club and your bucket seats. We will be making a snack, creating cards to be delivered to local senior citizens, learning about 4-H Health month and playing games! For more information contact Ms. Angie at 270-925-0570 (cell), 270-685-8480 (office), angie.padgett@uky.edu or 4-H CLOVERBUDS check the FB page https://www.facebook.com/ daviesscounty4hcloverbuds For our February meeting the Garden Club will begin talking about house plants and their care, in preparation for possible fair projects. We will also be working on some brick mosaics to go in the raised bed garden at the Daviess County Cooperative Extension Office. Bring your creativity and we will help make the garden look beautiful. The meeting will be February 8, 2016 at 6 p.m. at the Extension Office. We will not have a makeup date for our January meeting. As our Archery Club continues to practice hard even in the cooler months, practice dates have changed. If you are interested in participating in the Archery Club, practices are now being held on the 1 st and 3 rd Friday s of the month beginning at 4:30pm at the Fairgrounds. For more information, please call Lindsey at the Extension Office. June 6-9 270-685-8480 In February the 4-H Agriculture Club meeting will be led by Daviess County Agriculture Agent Clint Hardy. We will be learning about tractors and tractor safety. Any youth ages 9 to 18 are invited to attend and become part of the club!

This month 4-Hers are encouraged to take a time out to work on your healthy lifestyle! Take a few minutes each day to think about the foods you eat, make healthier choices, and get out and exercise daily. For ideas and tips to be a healthier you, call Stacey, Lindsey, or Angie at the Extension Office! The Daviess County 4-H STEM Club is led by volunteer leader and school teacher Barbara Poynter, Club meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month (September through May) at 4:30pm at the Extension Office. Special meetings may occur at various places throughout the year. This club is focused on exposing youth to many different areas of science. Meetings have included a visit from a television weatherman, participation in the National 4-H Youth Science Day experiment and a tour at the local Science Museum. A future meeting will include a visit to check out the OCTC Sports Car with an instructor sharing the science behind it. 1959: The National 4-H Center in Chevy Chase, MD opened. 1960s : Specialists in subject matter departments at UK were assigned to help 4-H update project literature. Conrad Feltner convinced departments to assign full time staffers to 4-H. Principals and superintendents led an effort to change the minimum foundation laws in order to allow 4-H back into schools and enacted a statute allowing 4-H ers to be counted as present at school when participating in 4-H. With the enactment of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Kentucky began making changes in its program. The practice of separate activities for Black and White youth was discontinued. Kentucky became the first state to send a black delegate to National 4-H Congress. We will be hosting a County Wide 4-H Science Fair at the Extension Office on Thursday, March 24 at 4:30pm. The Science Fair is open to youth that fall under the following age divisions, 9-11yrs, 12-14yrs, and 15-18yrs. You may only enter one project, however the possibilities are left open to allow you to create a science fair entry of your choice and interest. If interested in participating, please contact Angie or Lindsey at 270-685-8480 for more information and register no later than 4:30pm on March 18.
