Easthampstead Golf Club News November 2015 The Captain, Richard Gater I cannot believe it s been a year since my first newsletter, to this, the last one before my Vice-Captain Dean takes over. Congratulation to all who played in the Matt Carroll against Downshire. Dare I say another win for Easthampstead, well done team. I must apologise to Bill Grier who was due to go out at the end in a three ball. Two people dropped out very late on the morning so I had to pull two players in, which left Bill on his own, so sorry. Well done Graham Dibley for ensuring the knockouts were played on time, and congratulations to all the winners (see below and the website). Don't forget Prize Giving and the AGM on the 26 th November starting at 8pm. I have had a really good year and enjoyed it so thanks to the committee for all the support and hard work which makes Easthampstead the successful Club it is today. Thanks to all the members who have supported me in all the major events with great turnouts. Not quite sure on final amount for my charity Prostate cancer, but I think the total should be around 3,000. Thanks everyone. The atmosphere in the club is the best it s been for a few years which is down to you the members, and I hope it continues to grow for many years to come. Keep it up; thanks everybody. Richard Garry White's success at St Andrews Congratulations to Garry White (pictured below) who achieved an excellent 2nd place in his division at the UKPCC National Final at St. Andrews. After a disappointing front nine, Garry really upped his game and played the back nine in 1 over gross (24 points!), giving him a total of 36 points for his round. He said "That was the best back nine of my life"! This was even more of an achievement as he hadn't played the back nine before as the wind was too bad the day before to continue his practice round!

A creditable mention also for Faisel Shaban for his fine score of 35 points on the tough Eden Course. Turkey Trot, 19th December* Success at NAPGC Finals The NAPGC Seniors competition took place at West Middlesex golf club in Greenford in September and Easthampstead had a good number of entries from both the Men's and the Ladies section in both Singles and Pairs competition. In the Men s Singles, the club took the honours with BP Hirani achieving 2nd place, just 1 point behind the winner, and John Theunissen winning the 3rd prize (both pictured with their prizes). In the pairs competition Easthampstead took the honours with BP Hirani & Dave Ireland winning the overall prize on countback. This will be an 18 hole stableford non qualifier fun competition off yellow tees with tea/coffee & bacon on arrival accompanied by some Rusty Nail to keep out the cold. Drinks and snacks available at the half way hut and hot meal after. All players receive 2 bottles of wine (assuming HMRC don't impound the Captain's vehicle at Dover!) and a Xmas pudding. Nearly forgot - fancy dress optional. All this for just 12 plus your green fee, For the younger set Father Xmas will be there with a big bag of goodies to give away. *Handbook date is incorrect.

Club Tour 2015 A report on the recent successful and very enjoyable tour to Portugal can be found on our website. Winter League round 1, unfortunately the weather intervened and this had to be cancelled mid round. Your entry fee will carry over to the next round and the competition remains best 3 rounds. Should another date be lost to the weather then we will endeavour to re-arrange.

Club Communications A small group have been reviewing the way we communicate and keep you informed of events and competition results. We agreed that the Web site is our principle form of communication, with emails, notice board, newsletter being secondary. To this end you may already have noticed some changes, there is a search facility for Members names; and the front page now shows a 'fly by' of the course and course information will always be upto date (it's now linked to the relevant Complex pages). As other changes come live we'll let you know. Snippets from the Club House At SLGC one player only realised he had a winning score AFTER the prizes had been declared and given out, always best to check your pockets DF! Then there's the case of a former Captain booking in over an hour after his tee time thereby incurring a 2 shot penalty, always best to check you've set the alarm CJ! Falling Leaves With Autumn now approaching falling leaves can be a real problem, particularly on the 4 th fairway. If you can, please call up the group behind and act as spotters for those fine drives that bury themselves. A reminder that the 7 th is also a 'call up' hole. Knock Out Winners Congratulations to the winners and commiserations to the Runners Up in this years knock outs. Winners: Pairs: Dean Pullen/Richard Calcutt Captain's: Clive Gifford Seniors: Ian Goodall Tim Barter: Matt Storey High Handicap: Clive Gifford Smith Shield Scratch: Matt Storey Runners Up: Pairs: Mike Frawley/Michael Hunt Captains: Nick Murtagh Seniors: David Smith Tim Barter: Richard Calcutt High Handicap: Steve Cross Smith Shield Scratch: Dan Willis Remember that to be eligible to play in the 2016 knock outs you must have played six qualifying competitions by March 2016. Sunningdale Ladies GC Away Day Congratulations to Chris Corbett who won this event with a very creditable 40 points. The team prize went to Chris Corbett, Richard Langley, Richard Gater and Ian Goodall. An excellent day, look out for the sign up sheet next Autumn. External Competitions We now look forward to next season and If anyone has any ideas or comments about the externals, or would like to be considered for these teams please speak to Kirrill, Dean, or contact Gary at garylopez@ntlworld.com. Mid week rules, Competition Rules Update 1) Competitions will be played in accordance with the rules of golf, format to be either Medal or Stableford as stated.

2) Preferred method of entry is by the list on the notice boards, and priority will be given to players who sign up this way providing they arrive and register at least half an hour prior to first tee-time. 3) Players who roll-up will be allowed to play if tee-times available. 4) Entry to the Seniors competitions are restricted to those aged 55 or above on the on the day of the competition. If space is available others will be allowed to play but this will be on a friendly basis and they will not be part of the competition. 5) Competitions are Qualifiers for the purposes of Handicap adjustments, and also count towards the six competitions required to win a club competition overall. 6) Cards are to be signed and checked by players and collated after the competition for collection by the club handicap secretary. 7) Players walking off, or not arriving when signed up will be subject to a 2 match ban from subsequent mid-week competitions. All Competitions If you are unable to play after the tee times have been published then you MUST contact the organiser. Full details are on the start sheet and a 2 match ban awaits those who fail to do so. Likewise you must book in with the organisers (with your green fee receipt) at least 30 minutes before your tee time, otherwise it s a 2 stroke penalty! Winter Golf A reminder that the Club web page includes some information about rules and etiquette on the course. It can be found on the drop down menu under the heading Men. Pick & Place, if your ball has come to rest on mown area cut to fairway length or less then you can mark your ball, lift, clean, and replace within 6 inches no nearer the hole. Once placed, even if it then moves it must be played as it lies - it cannot be lifted twice. Pitch marks and Bunkers: please remember to repair/rake them, thanks. Bunkers & Water, if your stance or ball is in water then you can lift and drop in the bunker no nearer the hole without penalty. However, if you call an unplayable lie in the bunker for any other reason then you must drop in the bunker no nearer the hole and incur a one shot penalty. You can only drop outside the bunker if all of the bunker is under water. Sadly this also means a one shot penalty. Plugged balls, When Winter Rules prevail EGC apply the recommended local rule from the Rules of Golf. This allows a ball in its own pitch mark anywhere except a hazard, and not on the green nor tee of the hole being played, to be lifted, cleaned, and dropped as near as possible to where it was, no nearer the hole. It is a common misconception that a ball in its own pitch mark can just be rolled out and placed. This is NOT the case. It is also worth noting that if the ball plugs every time it is dropped it can be placed.
