Scheduling of Games In the COPL/OCL, the coaches control 100% of their game and practice schedule All teams should play the teams in their division one time during the Fall 2018 season Games can be scheduled on ANY DAY, ANY TIME as long as you have a willing opponent and a venue upon which to play Keep in mind TUESDAYS and THURSDAYS are particularly challenging to be referees in the Fall due to High School soccer The remaining games are completely up to the coach Teams can play other teams in their division/subdivision multiple times Teams can play teams from other divisions Teams can play teams from other age groups Teams can play teams from the opposite gender How do coaches schedule games? First of all, the coach should reach out to the parents to check on player availability (including school events, religious education classes, other sport conflicts, etc.) Secondly, the must know when their home fields are available (this varies widely by community) Thirdly, the coach should review the team registration information in order to identify potential opponents The coach is now ready to reach to potential opponents An e-mail blast to potential coaches with YOUR preferred dates is a good start
Scheduling of Games Once you reach out to Coaches, you begin to assemble your schedule Once the coach and an opposing coach agrees on playing, what next? Determine a date or dates to play Determine the game location (NOT a field number in most cases, but rather the home team) Determine possible start times (in some communities this is fixed, in other communities like Dublin, it may be possible to play two games on one field on the same night, therefore determining how early or late the game can begin is important Confirm the location, the date AND THE TIME with the opposing coach Enter the game into the system (MORE on that later)
