Rich Pond Elementary School Newsletter Inspiring Tomorrow s Leaders, Today! 8/19/16 WEB FACEBOOK TWITTER warrencountyschools.org/richpond facebook.com/richpondelementary @RichPondElement 2015 KENTUCKY DISTINGUISHED AND HIGH PERFORMING SCHOOL RICH POND RECEIVES GRANT FROM KDE TO IMPROVE MATH INSTRUCTION Rich Pond is one of two Warren County Schools to be included in the MathPLUS grant. This is a two year program designed to Improve overall teaching and learning in mathema cs, Increase academic success in mathema cs for students in par cipa ng schools, and Improve shared leadership to support capacity for high-quality mathema cs instruc on. We are excited about the benefit this will have for our students! PTO COOKIE DOUGH SALES Informa on was distributed on Wednesday. All money is due on Wednesday, September 7. Help our school sell cookie dough! Our school-wide goal is $50,000 (about 6 boxes per student) NEWEST NEWS NED SHOW On Monday, we will have a mo va onal assembly for all students. It was provided to us free of charge. However, we have to offer yo-yos for sale for 5 days following the event. We have some parents who have agreed to sit at a table at lunch to sell them Tuesday-Friday. We do not yet know the cost, but will share that via Twi er/facebook. They will again be on sale in the front office on Monday, August 29. VOLUNTEER TRAINING If you wish to a end your child s field trips, help in the school, or have a friend join you and your child for lunch, you must a end volunteer training. Here are the dates: Monday, August 22 @ 9:00 am; Tuesday, August 23 @ 9:00 am; Wednesday, August 31 @ 5:00 pm STUDENTS WHO RIDE SYLVIA DOUGLAS BUS #2726 Some adjustment of 5-10 minutes are being made to her route. She will tell students today what their new (earlier) pickup me will be star ng on Monday. SICKNESS Parents, please do not send your child if they have a fever when they get up for school or show other signs of sickness. Almost always, we will end up calling you anyway to pick them up. Students with even a low-grade fever cannot be allowed to remain at school. Thank you in advance. STRINGS The Interest Mee ng for all interested string students and their parents is Thursday, August 25th 6pm-7:30pm at the South Warren Middle School Auditorium. Details are on the strings interest forms.

EXTRA PE CLASS Please pay close a en on to emails from your child s teacher. There are extra PE s built in to the schedule and some are on random days. Your child must wear tennis shoes to PE! REMINDER NEWS If you s ll have paperwork that you have not returned, that needs to be returned immediately. Be sure you have every person who may ever pick up your child listed on the emergency card. FRC NEWS CITIZENSHIP PREPARATION CLASS Mondays & Wednesdays at 11:30am & 5:00pm 1845 Loop Drive (on the campus of Southcentral Kentucky Community & Technical College) The Ci zenship Class helps students prepare to become naturalized ci zens of the U.S. The class will help students with the applica on procedure and teach students about American government, American history, the US Cons tu on and Declara on of Independence, and the US Ci zenship and Immigra on Services interview procedure. FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS WITH THE SWHS SPARTANS CHEERLEADERS! The SWHS Cheerleaders would like to invite all girls in grades K-6 to join us on the field to cheer on the Spartans Football Team! Details: All participants will come to SWHS on Thur. August 25 th from 5-6 pm to learn the cheers and stunts they will be performing at the game. On Fri. August 26th @ 6:45pm, the girls will join the SWHS Cheerleaders on the sidelines as they cheer on the SWHS Football Team against Apollo High School! Cost: $35 includes a t-shirt that will be worn at the game. Please make checks payable to SWHS Cheer Boosters. Deadline: Please return all forms and money to your child s school by Monday Aug. 22nd! If your child does not attend one of our feeder schools (Rich Pond, Plano, Rockfield, Jody Richards), you can turn the form in to any of these schools offices or to the SWHS office on or before this date. Notes: Seating is usually very limited for this event, so parents will need to arrive at the game early to ensure they get a good seat. SWHS will not allow parents to stand in front of other parents - blocking the view of the game. Also, please ensure your child has a water bottle or drink for the game. Contest Overview Each year, Warren RECC publishes an annual recipe book free of charge for our members. The recipe books are very popular items among our membership. To help promote community involvement, art, and creativity, especially with our youth, Warren RECC is inviting area students (grades 5-12) to help create the cover of the 2016 recipe book. The winner will receive $100, and their artwork will become the cover of the recipe book. Warren RECC will also have two honorable mentions who will each receive $50, and the artwork will appear in the recipe book. All artwork will also appear on Warren RECC s website, Facebook, and in all district offices. Applications and artwork will not be considered unless all required information is furnished. All applications and artwork become the property of Warren RECC. Eligibility Requirements Student must reside in Warren RECC s service territory or attend a school in Warren RECC s service area. Artwork must be original. Winners will be selected by a Design the Cover Committee composed of Warren RECC employees. General Guidelines Applications are available at www.wrecc.com, or contact Jenny Rich at (270) 842-6541. Completed entries must be postmarked no later than September 19, 2016. No late applications will be considered. Winners will be notified no later than September 30, 2016. Artwork Guidelines Must be original; Must fit on 8.5 x 11 paper; If drawing is in landscaped format, then drawing must make sense when folded in half; If drawing is in portrait format, then the drawing will be front cover only if selected; No computer generated artwork will be considered; Must have some type of electrical/energy component in it; No obscenity (words or pictures); and Artwork may be in color or black/white.
