Summer Shredfest is a four-day, end-of-ski season festival that celebrates mountain sports, community and culture. Shredfest is the summer s only ski and ride gathering located at Beartooth Basin, North America s premiere summer ski area. The event is organized and produced by Mountain Rider s Alliance (MRA), and hosted in Red Lodge, Montana in partnership with the Freeride World Tour and Powder Magazine. Brand partners and event sponsors have the opportunity to increase exposure to a core group of skiers and riders. Since Summer Shredfest is held in the middle of June, the event garners strong media exposure as well as enthusiastic participation from the snowsports community. Summer Shredfest is produced by Mountain Rider s Alliance (MRA). Mountain Rider s Alliance is a group of like-minded people dedicated to making a positive change in the ski industry, as well as supporting the environment and surroundin communities. We believe riding is more than a sport, but rather a way of life
Competition Returning for it s second year, the 2 Star Freeride World Tour Qualifying (FWQ) event is the only summer FWQ competition in the Northern Hemisphere. Beartooth Basin s venue is steep, with large cornices, rocks and cliffs which makes for a great competition. Over 85 total athletes are expected to participate in the 2018 event. Freeride World Tour Qualifying (FWQ) events are the only route for athletes who want to advance to the elite Freeride World Tour (FWT). These events provide up-and coming athletes with the chance to hone their skills, gain experience and valuable points as they seek to advance to the FWT. Local and national media provide coverage, including Powder Magazine, Freeskier Magazine and others. Community SHRED-X presented by Mountain Rider s Alliance As part of MRA s goal of bringing the Triple Bottom Line to the ski industry, SHRED-X showcases innovation in our sport. A group of influencers, pioneers and innovators will give short, thought-provoking SHRED-X Talks. Each SHRED-X speaker will give 10 minute presentations that will inform, delight and challenge audiences. SHRED-X will be moderated by MRA CEO Jamie Schectman, streamed live on the web as well as recorded for future distribution. Community Ski and Ride Day Demo Day Community ski day will combine discounted lift tickets at Beartooth Basin with the summer s only on-snow demo day. Ski, snowboard and hardware manufacturers will have an opportunity to reveal and promote their latest equipment ahead of the upcoming season. Skiers and riders will have the opportunity to demo boutique ski and snowboards from around the country.
Culture B-Roll Film Festival This is the chance for anyone with a camera to get creative and showcase their vision of Montana. Featuring 2-minute films, this competition for amateur and casual filmmakers will feature Montana content only! We showcase selected entries in a Hollywood style Red Carpet night where we will announce winners chosen by a panel of judges, including Matt Hansen, Editor at Large of Powder Magazine; Tom Winter, Americas Manager of the Freeride World Tour; Jamie Schectman, Founder of the Mountain Rider s Alliance and others. FWQ Awards Ceremony After the Freeride World Qualifier wraps up, MRA will be hosting an Awards Party in Red Lodge. The top 3 athletes in each category plus the infamous Sick Bird award will be given. What They re Saying Summer Shredfest is recognized by both participants and the media as a unique happening that brings together a diverse group of ski and snowboard enthusiasts in a one-of-a-kind environment. Here s what they had to say about the inaugural 2017 event: The Beartooth Mountains stretched as far as the eye could see, revealing a vastness that was hard to comprehend. Puffy white clouds hung at eye level beneath a sky that had never been a deeper blue. Add to that a tiny, no-frills ski area, a big blue bus, a couple kegs of beer, 400 hot dogs, and about 200 people who believe skiing is the greatest thing on earth and you have what amounts to one of the all-time great ski gatherings. - Powder Magazine Read the whole story here: http://www.powder.com/stories/news/found-skiings-soul/ There are few places on this planet like Montana s Beartooth Basin. This tiny ski area sits high on Beartooth Pass, a summer-only operation that fires up its two Poma surface lifts when the high alpine road opens each spring and then shuts down when the snow finally melts. With no lodge or meaningful infrastructure other than an old Airstream trailer that serves as the ski area s ticket office and operations base, it s a throwback to simpler times, when the only focus was sliding on snow with friends. - Freeride World Tour Read the whole story here: http://www.freerideworldtour.com/news/beartooth-basin-recap I just want to say thanks for all of your hard work and for an amazing event. The whole time, other athletes and I were saying how we feel like we were at the beginning of something really special. Like Woodstock! - Jennifer, Summer Shredfest Participant Awesome stuff. Really looking forward to next year - Count on us and know we are willing to do whatever to make it grow. - Tim Weamer, Red Lodge Chamber of Commerce The skiing was awesome, the people were great, and the competition was a blast. It s off the beaten path, but the unreal scenery and the collective passion for skiing make Beartooth Basin a destination worthy of every skier and snowboarder s bucket list. - Snowledge Read the whole story here: https://www.snowledge.co/blog/summer-shredfest-beartooth-basin-fwq
