2/9 1 PARTICULARS AND PURPOSE OF INSTRUCTIONS The instructins in this manual are intended t illustrate and explain the peratinal directins t be fllwed t install, uninstall, use and prperly maintain glass level gauges and related accessries. 3/9 ACCESSORIES SAFETY BALL The Diesse level gauges can be equipped with a safety ball lwer and/r upper (in stainless steel 316) psitined inside the valves, which stps the fluid flw in case glass breakage ccurs. The breakage is anyway imprbable if the peratins are carried ut in the prper way. If the crystal breaks, the safety ball prevent the tank frm emptying. (Warning: their capacity culd be cmprmised due t freign bdies generated during use f the equipment). PUSHER T re-psitin the safety balls and enable the nrmal flw f the fluid, n request it s available a pusher in stainless steel. (Only fr valve type DS GR18). COCKS HANDLE COCK The ccks handle lck can be supplied n all ccks r nly n shut-ff ccks handle, n drain r vent ccks. CALIBRATED SCALE The calibrated scale (millimiters) is in stainless steel, the values are engraved and black clured. The standard indicatin crrespnd t the centre-t-centre distance f the level gauge. On request ther materials and graduatins can be supplied. MINIMUM LEVEL ARROW T mark the minimum level f the fluid which must be maintained inside the tank, a minimum level arrw in stainless steel can be fixed n the level gauge. On request t enable its regulatin alng the full visible length it is pssible t fix the arrw n a small rail. NON FROSTING EXTENSION On request an acrilic transparent resin slab can be supplied t be psitined n the level gauge glass (bth fr reflex and tranparent ne) t avid the frst frmatin n the external surface f the glass t facilitate the fluid level reading. The nn-frsting extensin is recmmended when the fluid reach a temperature < 0 C CONTINUOUS READING The executin f a multiple level gauge invlves a discntinuity in reading due t shrt dark area as a result f the tw elements jint. If a cntinuus reading f the fluid level is necessary, a special type can be supplied. REMOTE CONTROL In case f level gauge installed in a high psitin which des nt enable an easy shut-ff ccks pening/clsure, the handles can be equipped with a remte cntrl device. Cable r chains are nt supplied by the manufacturer. WEIGHT CLOSING FOR HANDLES This device is supplied t ensure that the shut-ff ccks remain clsed even in case f the peratr absence. ILLUMINATOR The visibility f the transparent level gauges can be imprved by the installatin f an illuminatin lamp psitined n the back side f the instrument. The lamp light is directed at the level gauge by a brsilicate r plexiglas diffuser.

4/9 The illuminatr prvided as an accessry t the gauge is ATEX certified by the manufacturer. In the cases where the mdel is supplied with an illuminatr, dcumentatin is prvided by separate attachment. PRELIMINARY/WARNINGS: On receiving the material, befre prceeding with installatin and during such installatin, make sure: 1. that the prduct has nt been damaged during transprt; 2. that the mdel and the temperature and pressure ratings are as required; 3. that the material is cmpatible with bth the prcess fluid as well as with the ambient/atmsphere in which it is t be installed; 4. in the mdels prvided with an illuminatr, that the infrmatin included n the prduct identificatin label/plate is cmpatible with the pwer supply. 3. LIMITS OF RESPONSIBILITY The manufacturer des nt accept respnsibility in any case where the abve preliminary instructins are nt respected and/r the equipment is placed in an perating cnditin that fails t respect the requirements set frth in this manual. The installatin and use f the gauge must guarantee nt nly its wn safety but that f peple and buildings; the purchaser/user is respnsible fr this safety and must prceed as abve specified. 4. USE OF THE TOOL While it is the respnsibility f the user t verify that the fluid cntained in the tank r cntainer is cmpatible with materials used fr the cnstructin f the equipment, fr any dubt r further explanatin please cntact the manufacturer. The equipment must be used exclusively fr displaying the level reached by fluid in a tank r cntainer in which the pressure and temperature d nt exceed the limits set by the manufacturer. The level reached by the fluid inside a cntainer r tank, either pen-air r clsed and in which the pressure abve the fluid surface is equal t r greater than atmspheric pressure, is indicated by the height f the fluid in the gauge. The user can request that the manufacturer add a visual indicatr (fr example graduated scales) in rder t imprve the interpretatin f the indicatins f the level gauge. 4.1 Imprper Use Imprper use is any use which is different frm that expressly intended and in particular its utilisatin in the fllwing cnditins: failure t respect r use cntrary t current safety regulatins; failure t respect the limitatins set by the manufacturer, particularly with regard t the maximum temperatures and pressures permissible; incrrect munting and installatin f the equipment; failure t purificatin waters (such failure culd cause the ersin f glasses); incrrect installatin after maintenance wrk;

5/9 Ttal r partial nn-bservance f the prescribed maintenance; mdificatins r interventins n the equipment which have nt been previusly discussed with and authrised by the manufacturer; use f replacemant parts either nt frm r f a type nt recmmended by the manufacturer; partial r ttal nn bservance f the instructins; use f the equipment by untrained persnnel; exceptinal events such as earthquakes, flds, wilful r accidental blws and ther actins that culd have caused nt immediately perceptible damage t the equipment; maintenance activity with parts under pressure; cnnectin f a number f elements beynd thse furnished by the manufacturer. 5 CRITERIA FOR MOUNTING AND DISMOUNTING THE EQUIPMENT Fr the assembly and disassembly f the equipment, tw peple with gd technical knwledge f maintenance are envisined. During the activities, peratrs must wear apprpriate individual persnal prtective means, and all necessary precautins must be taken t avid accidents. 5.1 Munting f equipment with grinded pipes a) Insert the grinded pipes in the supprt f the upper and lwer taps and lightly tighten the sealing caps. b) Verify that the cnnectins t the prcess are perfectly in line with each ther and the junctins are nt damaged. c) Psitin the cnnectins in alignment with the tank junctins, making sure t place a gasket, f material suitable fr the type f fluid cntained in the tank, between the surfaces. d) Place the screws in psitin fr cnnectin, making sure t start with munting thse farther dwn, and tighten with sufficient trque t ensure a secure cnnectin withut damaging the material. e) Place the level, rtating it n its vertical axis, in the angular psitin best adapted fr visual requirements. f) Tighten the sealing caps. g) Verify the need t leave the shut-ff valves clsed during the first stages f startup, in rder t avid dangerus head butts t the crystals and t their grip. h) During the first hurs f use, if small lsses f fluid are nted, gently tighten the sealing cap, screws and hlding nuts. 5.2 Munting f the instrument with fixed centre t centre distance a) Psitin the cnnectins in alignment with the tank attachments making sure t place a gasket, f material suitable fr the type f fluid cntained in the tank, between the surfaces. b) Verify that the cnnectins are perfectly aligned n the axis between them and that the attachments are nt damaged. c) Place the screws in psitin fr cnnectin, making sure t start with munting thse farther dwn, and tighten with sufficient trque t ensure a secure cnnectin withut damaging the material.

6/9 d) Verify the need t leave the shut-ff valves clsed during the first stages f startup, in rder t avid dangerus head butts t the crystals and t their grip. e) During the first hurs f use, if small lsses f fluid are nted, gently tighten the sealing cap, screws and hlding nuts. 5.3 Munting the equipment with illuminatrs Particular attentin must be paid during the installatin f the illuminatr (in the mdels where included): see the apprpriate instructins issued with the prduct. 5.4 Dismunting 6 MAINTENANCE a) Shut dwn and empty the installatin. b) Wait until the temperature f the equipment reaches ne that will nt harm the peratrs (rm temperature). c) Then cmplete emptying the gauge. d) Unscrew the screws and nuts that jin cnnectins t the tank (starting with the lwer cnnectins) and remve the gauge, carefully evaluating its weight. e) Make sure that the equipment is restarted nly after the security perating cnditins have been reinstated. The gauge is designed s that dismunting is pssible slely by means f specific tls in rder t freely pen its parts. Bear in mind that: It is the respnsibility f the user t prceed with maintenance peratins and t read carefully the abve details n risks; it is advisable t cntact the manufacturer fr the best way t prceed. It is the respnsibility f the user t institute apprpriate schedules f maintenance, determining the frequency f the same based n his wn needs/use f the equipment. the recmmended maintenance peratins are: a) Cleaning the glass t keep visibility f the level better. Warning: befre effecting maintenance, wait until the insturment has reached rm temperature. Use nn-abrasive prducts and in any case prducts that are cmpatible with the material f the glasses (brsilicate). Never use slvents. b) Regular cleaning f the equipments, thrugh verificatin f the state f the filtres s as t avid freign bdies which can damage the apparatus. c) Fr verificatin f the tightness f threaded parts (t guarantee cnstant tightness): lightly tighten the seal cap and the screws/nuts in several stages (fr the level: cmmence with the centre and alternate n the tw sides). Tightening trque f husing screw: please refer t the data sheets f each prduct available n the DIESSE website. Eventual evidence f internal r external crrsin indicates ambiental cnditins adverse t/incmpatible with the cnstructin material f the apparatus. It is the respnsibility f the user t determine the cause f the prblem.

7/9 7 SPARE PARTS Spare parts that can be rdered are designated in the current catalgue available n the website. INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT OF GLASSES AND GASKETS Assumptins: The glass and gaskets replacement requires such specific devices and tls that the peratin by persnnel nt specifically trained t d s is nt advised. The level gauge is designed s that dismunting is pssible slely by means f specific tls in rder t avid any invluntary pening f its parts. If the buyer decides t prceed with its wn persnnel and tls fr maintenance peratins, such as the replacement f the glass and/r the gaskets, it is IMPORTANT: That tw peple with gd technical knwledge f maintenance are envisined. The custmer cntact the manufacturer t decide the prper parts and get instrucins. T carefully read the instructins reprted in the use and maintenance manual prvided with the instrument. The peratrs wear apprpriate individual persnal prtective means and all necessary precautins must be taken t avid accidents. Befre starting any maintenance peratin, it is imprtant t wait until the temperature f the equipment reaches the rm temperature. Befre level gauge dismunting be sure that the instrument is nt under pressure: 1) Unscrew the tightening blts and nuts and be sure that when it is pened n parts fall. 2) Remve all gaskets residues frm the husing. Use nn-abrasive prducts and in any case prducts that are culd incise the glass husing (any incisin will affect the glass sealing). 3) Carefully clean all cmpnents by nn-abrasive prducts. Munting: 1) Insert the sealing gasket in the husing, put the glass ver (if it s a reflex type the prismatic surface must be in cntact with the fluid) and then the cushin gasket; in case f a transparent type, if freseen, insert the mica shields (r the ne in PCTFE) between the sealing gaskets and the glass (it must perfectly adhere t the glass surface in cntact with the fluid). 2) Psitin the cver aviding any mvement f glass and gasket, even slighly. 3) Prceed by tightening the fitting screws in the crss sequence shwn n the instructin prvided with the glass. The tightening trque is mentined n every prducts data sheet. Befre restarting the equipment: Leave the shut-ff valves clsed in rder t avid dangerus head butts t the glasses and their seal. During start up: If small leakage f fluid are nted, gently tighten the stuffing bx, the screws and sealing nuts. 8 DISPOSAL T dispse f the cmpnent parts f the apparatus, bserve the current related laws.

8/9 DECLARATION OF CONFORMITY We declare that the prduct is state-f-the-art cnstructin and has been subjected t cntrl testing as defined by quality cntrl prcedures in frce in the cmpany. We declare that, given the cnstructin and use characteristics, level gauges cvered by this manual fall under the prvisins f Article 3 par. 3 D. If frm analysis f the prduct it is ascertained that there are n manufacturing defects, and it is revealed as the client's respnsibility fr misuse, the manufacturer will charge the custmer all the csts invlved. It cvers eventual manufacturing defects r materials, excluding the parts subject t nrmal usage such as the gaskets and glasses. The respnsibility f the manufacturer is limited t the reparatin r substitutin f the prduct. The manufacturer is therefre nt respnsible fr eventual damage t ther prducts, structures, persnnel directly r indirectly cnnected t the imprper use/installatin f the prduct. The guarantee is nt applicable t disassembled prducts, repaired r mishandled withut the authrisatin n behalf f the manufacturer.
