WEEKLY NEWSLETTER October 13, 2017 S. Matthew CATHOLIC SCHOOL Spirit Week Pep Rally: God s Love Awakens us! We held our annual kick-off pep rally for Sprit Week this afternoon. This year s event was full of fun surprises, including one very special guest! As always, the highlight of the pep rally was the big reveal of this year s winning spirit shirt design. Congratulations to our winner Ainsley Lipo (7th grade) for her beautiful artwork! Page 1
The Living Rosary Our 8th grade students recite a Living Rosary each October to commemorate the Church s month of devotion to the Holy Rosary. Yesterday they led the entire school in prayer of the Luminous Mysteries. This year s event was particularly special in that it marks the 100th anniversary of Our Lady s appearance at Fatima when she implored us all to pray the Rosary devoutly. If your child would like to join us, the St. Matthew Rosary Club will have its first meeting next Tuesday, October 17th at 7:20 am in Mrs. Bloom s classroom. Page 2

Pre-K Spirit Week Grand Finale Event: Cardinal Olympics Friday, October 20th With so many exciting projects taking place on campus, our space is now very limited! Because the old CYO field will no longer be available to us for a Fun Run (or Color Run) as we have done in recent years and Holden s Grove is being used to store roofing supplies, we have a new plan to show the kids our appreciation after all of their hard work during Spirit Week! Each class will have a one-hour timeslot during which they will visit five stations around the church/school campus. We will have parent volunteers at each station to supervise and explain the fun activity. You are welcome to come and watch the craziness! The stations will include: rock painting for our Spiritual Garden, water balloon targets, pom-pom wars, hula hoop games and a mini obstacle course! The kids will also receive swag bags and pick up a small treat at each of the five stations. One less limp. One more heartbeat. The STEM Club had an amazing field trip to the Centre for Emergency Services in Bulverde, where the students experienced a hands-on human anatomy session and learned some basic skills from first responders such as dealing with active bleeding, suturing and basic cardiac resuscitation skills.
