ATHLETES AND COACHES Note: SAMCA colours refer to previously awarded SADMA colours as well as SAMCA colours. 1. Eligibility for Selection (Athletes): All Athletes that have been awarded Provincial Colours under the auspices of SAMCA are eligible to attend the SAMCA National Colours Trials. The successful athletes will be awarded SAMCA Colours upon their selection and completion of required activities as set out by the SAMCA Executive and SAMCA Director: National Team. Athletes must attend SAMCA Colours trials in the division for which they have been awarded Provincial colours ie: Junior Provincial Majorette Team members must attend SAMCA Junior Colours trials. 2. Trials Process: Senior Provincial Majorette Team members must attend SAMCA Senior Colours trials. Cheerleading Provincial Team members must attend SAMCA Cheerleading Colours trials. SAMCA National Colours Trials will be held annually over a 5 day period or as determined by the SAMCA Director: National Team. Costs for participants will be equalised. Payments will be non-refundable. All participating Athletes will be allocated a number and will wear the number throughout the SAMCA trials. Selections will be done and announced on the Athletes number. A Selection panel, led by the National Team Director will evaluate the Athletes during the SAMCA National Colours Trials. All participating Athletes will be dressed uniformly for all assessments. Participating Athletes will be assessed on a scale of: YES / MAYBE YES / MAYBE / MAYBE NO / NO Participating Athletes will be assessed as follows: 2.1 Majorettes Junior and Senior FITNESS Every day fitness, as well as the Bleep test where they must achieve a minimum end of level 4. NON PROP unprepared (2min) FLAG Group (Double Flag and Single Flag) unprepared (2 min) THROWING PROP Group (Mace) unprepared (2 min) BATON (Single) Group unprepared (2 min) PREPARED DISPLAY this will be choreographed during the duration of the trials with (Mace, Double Flag & Non Prop) (3 min) INTERVIEW group interview with the selectors (if required). 2.2 Cheerleaders FITNESSS Every day fitness, as well as the Bleep test where they must achieve a minimum of end of level 4 DANCE - unprepared STUNTS - unprepared GYMNASTICS & TUMBLING - unprepared PYRAMIDS - unprepared TOSSES unprepared PREPARED DISPLAY this will be choreographed during the duration of the trials with all cheerleading elements (3 min) INTERVIEW group interview with the selectors (if required) These may be changed or amended as per requirements of the International Competition the team will attend. SAMCA reserves the right to change the as needed to ensure the best athletes are selected. 3. Participation in the SAMCA National Team activities Any current participating and SAMCA affiliated Athletes awarded SAMCA National Colours will be eligible to participate in all activities for the duration of their time in the specific category (ie, Junior Majorettes, Senior Majorettes and Cheerleading) with the following exceptions: 3.1 Majorettes Junior and Senior Junior (Primary School) Athletes awarded SAMCA Colours at the end of their grade 7 year will belong to the pool of Athletes for only a two year period. All other SAMCA Colours recipients will belong to the pool of Athletes for 2 years after their grade 7 year or to a maximum of 15 years of age. Senior (High School) Athletes awarded SAMCA Colours at the end of their grade 12 year will belong to the pool of Athletes as long as they are actively participating as an Athlete and are affiliated to SAMCA. All other SAMCA Senior Colours recipients will belong to the pool of Athletes as long as they are actively participating as an Athlete and SAMCA affiliated (no age limit). 3.2 Cheerleaders Cheerleader Athletes awarded SAMCA Colours during their Senior (High) School years will belong to the pool of Athletes as long as long as they are actively participating as an Athlete and SAMCA affiliated. Cheerleader Athletes awarded SAMCA Colours at the end of their grade 12 year or who attend in a tertiary capacity will belong to the pool of Athletes as long as they are actively participating as an Athlete and SAMCA affiliated. Any current participating and SAMCA affiliated Athletes who have SAMCA colours will form part of a pool of Athletes, and may attend a further selection trial to be selected to attend an international tour offered by SAMCA. Athletes are only required to attend SAMCA National Colours trials once in the category they participate in (Junior, Senior or Cheerleading). Once awarded SAMCA National Colours in this category, they will be eligible for selection of any International tours offered in their specific category. 4. SAMCA National Colours Recipients Commitments All SAMCA National Colours awarded Athletes have to participate in Development Programmes as and when required by SAMCA as long as they are actively participating as an Athlete and SAMCA affiliated. 5. Selectors A Selection panel, coordinated and constituted by the National Team Director will evaluate the Athletes during the SAMCA National Trials. The Selection panel will consist of the SAMCA Director: National Team as well as any other available SAMCA Executive member/s and invited Coaches who have previously trained the National Team or have been awarded SADMA / SAMCA colours for Training. This panel will be approved by the SAMCA Executive. 6. Coaches All current SAMCA affiliated Coaches who have been awarded Provincial Colours for Training will be eligible to attend the National Colours trials to audition for SAMCA colours. A nomination form will be submitted by the Provinces to SAMCA. If successful, the trainer/s chosen by the Selection Panel during the period of trials will be awarded SAMCA colours for Coaching. The Coaches will be evaluated and awarded SAMCA Colours by the Selection panel and approved by the SAMCA Executive. Any current SAMCA affiliated Coach that was awarded SAMCA Colours previously, can be invited by the SAMCA Executive to participate in SAMCA activities for the duration of their time in the specific category (ie, Majorettes and Cheerleading). Any current SAMCA affiliated Coach that was awarded SAMCA Colours previously, will form part of a pool of Coaches, and may be invited by the SAMCA Executive and National Team Director to attend a further selection trial to be selected to attend an International tour offered by SAMCA. Trial process and evaluation for coaches to obtain SAMCA Colours: a. Personal History/CV template: 1. Involvement with Provincial Team and results, 2. Development of the sport, 3. Involvement in the Province (outside own team), Page 3 of 5

4. Involvement in SAMCA, 5. Own team s results on provincial and National level. b. Coaching skills: (observed and evaluated by selection panel during trials) 1. Coaching relationship with Majorettes/Cheerleaders, 2. Motivational skills, 3. Discipline of Athletes c. Organisational skills (Adhere to deadlines, getting the job done, involvement with trials process. (observed and evaluated by selection panel during trials) d. Prepared Trials displays: 1. Majorette Displays 3 Minute choreographed display Pre-prepared Audio on CD The display must contain choreographed elements of non prop, mace and double flag sections in equal proportions Groups will consist of approximately 10 20 Athletes or as determined by SAMCA 2. Cheerleading Displays 3 Minute choreographed display Pre-prepared Audio on CD The display must contain all elements of a normal cheerleading display Group will consist of approximately 10 Athletes or as determined by SAMCA e. SASCOC Code of Conduct for Coaches and Athletes will form the basis of all conduct. f. General: Submission of Coaches report on the Athletes as requested by the National Team Director Tidiness of Training areas Venues 7. International Tour: The selection of Athletes for the SAMCA International tour will be carried out by the SAMCA Director: National Team assisted by invited SAMCA Directors and the invited Coach/es for the National Team. All athletes with SAMCA colours that are still participating members of teams will be eligible for selection of an International tour. The selection trial for Athletes for the International Tour will be held as determined by the National Team Director in preparation for an identified or planned International Tour. Page 4 of 5

All Coaches that have been awarded SADMA / SAMCA colours will form part of a pool of Trainers that can be invited by the SAMCA Director: National Team (approved by SAMCA Executive) to attend the final selection trials for International Tours. During this trial period the National Team Coach s will be selected and approved by the SAMCA Executive. Page 5 of 5
