October 2017 Yellowstone Council Grapevine 3 Hunter s back! New dancer program beginning on September 26 It was so nice to see you all this summer at the dances. As most of you know, I am starting a new Mainstream class on Tuesday nights. Let me answer a few questions. We will accept new students the first two weeks. After that, no new folks unless they have prior square dance experience. We encourage all dancers to attend and strengthen their skills and new dancers to come and learn. All dancers are asked to pay at the door. We are dancing 4 Tuesdays in October. We will NOT be dancing on Halloween. Depending on how this goes, and how many people attend, will determine if Tuesday nights will continue. A new club name and logo are pending. The classes will be taught in an all position format. Class will be a casual and relaxed learning environment. Square dancing is an enjoyable, traditional pasttime, but new participants will be pleased to find that the entire experience has modernized. I hope to see you on all Tuesday nights, beginning on September 26th. Hunter (Editor's Note: Lessons begin at 7 p.m. in. Cost is $7 per person. See the flyer on the YSDC website, www.squaredancemontana.com, for more details. Angels are welcome.) Larry & Susan Sperry, Cuers Sundays: see website for times http://www.larrysperry.com Summer went by quickly. Club danced most Thursday nights this summer at Casa Village Rec Hall. Hunter Keller cued a tip of 6 rounds for us one night. This was his debut at as a cuer. Hunter will cue party dances on many of the Sundays that Susan & Larry are in AZ this winter. All of our members took some time off to vacation somewhere this summer. Susan and Larry and Terry and Kathy were gone to Lolo twice this summer. Byron and Lorraine were gone to Circle 8 Dance Ranch much of the summer. Brian and Peggy visited her daughter in Oklahoma. John and Shirley were gone to Portland a while to visit family. Lyle and Peggy spent a lot of time in Alaska, Texas and Georgia. Gene and Suzette put on a nice party for her dad s 80th birthday complete with a band and dancing. Ron Penn took a couple trips. Susan Kelly took a trip to dance with David. Andrew and Satit did not dance at this summer due to Satit s knee surgery. Our Sunday dancing started on September 17 and new beginner lessons (rumba amd cha) began on Wednesday, September 20. Please see the page on squaredancemontana.com for the schedules and more information. October 2017 Yellowstone Council Grapevine 5 Contradance Billings Amy Letson, caller, with live musicians 7:30 p.m., at MetraPark 2nd and 4th Fridays most months, see calendar A new contra dance community was formed last year in Billings and we invite anyone who enjoys live music and fun to experience this form of dance. No experience is necessary to contra dance. An introduction to contra dancing precedes every dance to allow the beginner to learn enough to start dancing and then to learn more throughout the evening. Amy Letson of Billings will be the main caller and the band Copper Kelly will play at most of the dances. We eventually hope to dance on the 2nd and 4th Fridays (depending on availability of caller and musicians) each month starting at 7:30 for beginners with the regular dance to run from 8:00 to 11:00. The cost is $10 per person. We would appreciate experienced dancers to come at 7:30 to mentor the beginners. Our scheduled dances for the remainder of 2017 are Oct 27, Nov 10, Dec 8, Dec 22. Check our facebook page or the YSDC website, squaredancemontana.com, for 2018 dances and schedule updates. Billings A Level Workshop Bob Hogemark, Instructor Alternate Mondays (see calendar), 7:00-9:00 p.m. at MetraPark So you ve always heard that A-level dancing is too serious? In the case of our workshop, seriously silly would probably be a more accurate description. The fun begins this fall on October 9. The workshops are planned for the second and fourth Mondays of each month. At this time, the schedule is tentative. If you re interested, please call Bob or Ann (373-6959) to make sure. The workshop sessions will start at the beginning of the A-1 call list and progress at the dancers pace. If you re a solid Plus dancer and would like to give Advanced dancing a try, please come join us. You probably won t laugh harder anywhere else! Kut N Capers Steve Lassiter, Caller Fridays, 6:00 p.m. Hello, Dancers! Steve is hunting throughout the month of September and will be unable to call. We hope to be back to regular Friday night dances in October. Bob Hogemark may come down during the winter to call for us a couple of times while Steve is in Arizona. Sheila Leach Bob Hogemark, Caller Thursday evenings 6:30-9:00 Mainstream, Metra Park We are ready to get started for the 2017 season of Mainstream square dancing! Thanks for such a great 2016 2017 season. Our dancers, callers and cuer are the best! Our club s new dancer lessons will begin in January 2018. We will continue to dance on Thursday nights with Bob Hogemark as our caller and Hunter Keller as our guest caller. Our dancer review will begin at 6:30 pm. Everyone is welcome to start at 6:30 pm and continue through 9:00 pm. Please get your thinking caps on and make a list of your neighbors, family, friends, co-workers, church members, etc. that might be interested in joining us for lessons in January 2018. Eileen sent out emails to those she has an email address for and mailed flyers to those dancers without email. If you did not get this year s flyer, please call or text her at (406) 656-0518. We don t require proper square dance attire. However, you are welcome to wear your frilly outfits, petticoats and matching men s shirts, etc. if you wish. Some of you enjoy dressing up in costumes for Halloween. We certainly encourage it, but it is not required for our 10/26/2017 night of dancing. We welcome your comments, questions and concerns about our club at any time. And, by our club, we mean you the dancers who join us so faithfully on Thursday nights and without whom this club wouldn t exist. We will see you across the square! Brian, Peggy, Paul & Eileen Billings Plus Group Bob Hogemark, Lynn Strobel, callers 7:00-9:30 p.m., at MetraPark Saturdays, see website or newsletter calendar for dates Plus dancing will begin again on Saturday, October 7. Plus evenings will begin with DBD at 7, followed by our regular dance at 7:30. Try DBD and find out how much fun it is to exercise your brain right along with your body. If you ve been dancing Mainstream for a while and are ready for the next level, come join us for Lynn s Plus Lessons Kickoff on Saturday, November 4. This daylong event will get you off a good start toward dancing Plus. Go to the Plus Night page on our website for all the details. Then, beginning November 11 and continuing through February, the Plus nights will start with lessons from 7-8 p.m. followed by Plus dancing until 9:30. Both Lynn and Bob are excellent teachers who know how to make learning fun.
