TABLE SETTING Table setting will be a new event at the 2017 Shelby County Fair. 4-H ers (K 12th grade) will be eligible to compete with formal or informal table setting displays. The guidelines were attached to last month s newsletter and are available on our website. There will be a table setting workshop on Monday, May 22nd at the Extension office. Please RSVP to Mary if you plan to attend. PRE-FAIR LEADER/PARENT MEETING Amanda and I will be hosting a pre-fair leader/parent meeting on Tuesday, May 16th at 7PM and Thursday, May 18th at 5PM. This will be an opportunity for all 4-H leaders and/or parents to get information and ask questions about the Shelby County Fair and the Iowa State Fair. The meeting will last about one hour, depending on the number of questions. We look forward to seeing many of you on the 16th or the 18th! POULTRY TESTING Pullorum-Typhoid Testing, which is required for ALL poultry, excluding broilers, being shown at the Shelby County fair, will be Saturday June 3 rd at 2PM at the Shelby County Fair Grounds. If you have any questions about testing OR about poultry exhibits, please contact Pam Borkowski, Poultry Superintendent or Amanda at the Extension office. SWINE EXHIBITOR RULE CHANGE Swine Exhibitors please note that there is a rule change for the 2017 Shelby County Fair livestock auction. The Shelby County Fair Board decided the following: Any swine weighing less than 225 lbs. will be eligible for show, but not eligible for auction support. They must be returned home at the time of weigh in, or following release at the end of the fair if they choose to participate in the prospect class. It is up to that participant to find an alternative market following fair, as well as transporting those underweight pigs to the marketplace of their choice. With this change in mind, the 4-H Committee & Shelby County Extension Council approved the following: Any swine weighting less than 225 lbs. will be placed in a prospect class for the swine show. Prospect winners will receive division champion/reserve champion ribbons, but will not be eligible to participate in the champion barrow or guilt drive. Prospect class swine will not be eligible to show in a non-prospect pen of three. There will be a prospect pen of three class, should it become necessary.
