Scarborough Football Club (the Club ) 2018 Newsletter Edition 2 IMPORTANT DATES SFC President s Message Gift Card Drawing Deadline: Register by Sunday, June 24th SFC Summer Camp: Monday, June 25 th Thursday, June 28 th, 5:30PM 7:00PM @ Middle School Multi-Use Field (near the parking lot) SweetFrog Fundraiser: Thursday, July 19 th 4:00PM 8:00PM Dicks Sporting Goods Appreciation Days: Saturday, July 28 th 9:00AM 9:30PM Sunday, July 29 th 10:00AM 7:00PM Middle School Tackle Pre- Season Practice: Week of August 6th Official Start of Middle School Tackle Season: Week of August 13th Official Start of Youth Tackle Season: Week of August 20th Scarborough Youth Football Families, Hope this finds you all well and wrapping up lacrosse, baseball, or another spring sport. As the school year comes to a close, the Scarborough Youth Football (SYF) program has had a great session of Spring Flag Football, along with two very successful free football clinics. Now we re on to enjoying summer in Maine and ramping up for the upcoming fall season. There are three key areas that I d like to discuss. The first is how the program can only run successfully with the assistance of volunteers. From working the snack shack, to participating in the chain gang, to helping with apparel, volunteers are a critical component of our program. Without parents, grandparents, and siblings stepping up to assist in the running of game day operations, the overall experience for players and families becomes more challenging. In the years that I ve been with the SYF program, I ve observed numerous occasions where team administrators were rushing around at the start of a game trying to find parents that would help with the chain gang, which is always challenging. When your team administrator sends out the email to volunteer, please find the best time for you and volunteer. If you re concerned about not knowing how to move the chains, run the fryolator, or how to be a team administrator, have no fear, you will receive training. If everyone steps up

to help, the season runs smoothly and everyone has fun, which is one of the most important facets of youth sports. Another area I wanted to discuss was our coaching staff. We are into late spring/early summer and we could use some assistance with regard to coaches. I would ask that if you re interested in coaching, whether flag or tackle, please register on the program website. Much like other volunteer positions, there is training for coaches and significant support from the other coaching staff. If you are concerned about not knowing what a Double Wing offense looks like or how a Tampa Two Defense works, don t worry. The program takes a building block approach to developing players, which means that we start out with basic formations and plays, then go from there. Lastly, and most important, we take player safety very seriously. All of our tackle coaches are U.S.A. Football certified. Our leagues require team head coaches to be certified, but our program decided four years ago that all coaches would participate in the training. I firmly believe that fact separates our program from other teams we play. Further, our players are trained in the latest techniques utilizing the Heads Up Football Program to ensure we are playing safe, smart football. I have repeatedly explained to players I have coached over the years that you don t need to be the biggest player on the field, but you must be the smartest and quickest. All those components lead to a football experience that is fun and beneficial not only to the player, but to the family as well. Please remember to register your player as soon as possible. We need to confirm how many teams we will be fielding this year in order to pass that information on to our league officials, so they can build the season s schedule. As always, if you have any questions or concerns about the program, don t hesitate to reach out me at president@scarboroughyouthfootball.com. GO STORM! Grant Delaware

REGISTER AND WIN! All Tackle and Flag players registered for the Fall 2018 season by Sunday, June 24, 2018 will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win one of two Dick s Sporting Goods $50 gift cards. Registration must be completed online via our website at Registration. This time of year is critical for our Club as we need to provide enrollment and team information at the end of June, so our respective leagues can determine this season s schedules. Please be sure to register on or before June 24 th to be entered into the drawing. Annual SFC Skills Camp Next Week Don t forget to register for the SFC annual skills football camp. Once again, Lance Johnson, Scarborough High School Varsity Head Coach, will be managing the camp. Using tackling dummies and similar equipment in this no-contact camp, players will work on tackling, blocking, passing and throwing. For just $50, this camp is great to familiarize first time players with the basics of football and a valuable refresher for our more seasoned players. This camp is also a great way to meet other players, catch up with friends and have a good time! To register go to our website or CLICK HERE. Dates & Times: Monday, June 25th through Thursday, June 28th - 5:30PM - 7:00PM Location: Middle School Multi-Use Field (next to the school parking lot)
