Sunday, September 24, 2017 Highway Clean-up & MTB Ride Meet at Turtle Rock Park at 8:00am for a quick highway clean-up, coffee and snacks, followed by a Mountain Bike ride. Sunday, September 30, 2017 Tahoe City to Cisco Grove Meet in Tahoe City in the parking area next to the river adjacent to Transit Center. Be ready to ride at 8:00am. We ll ride out to Truckee and have our first stop at The Outlets/Paco s on Donner Pass Road. Those who want a shorter ride can meet us there between 9:00am and 9:15am. We ll then ride up and over the summit on Highway 40 (Old Donnor Pass Rd.) and then join the I-80 frontage road down to Cisco Grove and return to Tahoe City by the same route for a total of 70 miles (50 miles for those starting from Paco s). Sunday, October 8, 2017 Tim Rowe Memorial Sweetwater Fall Ride The annual Tim Rowe Memorial Sweetwater Fall Ride marks the end of our weekend ride program for the season. We depart from the parking lot of CG Bar's in Wellington at 9:15am. To carpool to the start meet before 8:30 am in Lampe Park in Gardnerville. We ride from Wellington to Bridgeport over Sweetwater Pass and back. There will be a rest stop with snacks and drinks at the top of Sweetwater Pass in both directions but we recommend bringing money for food in Bridgeport. At the end of the ride we ll celebrate the end of the season with pizza for everyone. The full distance is about 84 miles. Please RSVP to davesca30@gmail.com. Sunday, October 8, 2017 Tim Rowe Memorial Sweetwater Short Ride Interested in a shorter ride? Those looking for a shorter adventure will meet at CG Bar and start at noon. LTA A LPIN Page 2 PACELINE Tim Rowe Memorial Fall Sweetwater Pass Ride and Pizza: Full and Half Distance Options" Sunday, October 8, 2017 David Scarborough, Spring/Fall Century Coordinator We re holding an Alta Alpina end of the year club ride and pizza dinner for club members again this year! The ride is being held in memory of Tim Rowe and we re excited that Tim s wife and son will be participating. For the full distance we will start at 9:15am from CG Bar and Pizza in Wellington, NV and ride to Bridgeport, CA back and forth over Sweetwater Pass. For the half distance we ll start at noon and ride to the top of Sweetwater Pass, meet the group returning from Bridgeport, and ride back to the start. There will be a club rest stop on top of Sweetwater Pass. Participants will be on their own for support in Bridgeport. Food is available there so bring money for that, if needed. Upon returning to Wellington, the club will buy all participants dinner so don't eat too much before hand! Parking at the start is limited, so for the full distance we ll meet at Lampe Park in Gardnerville at 8:30am to carpool. We ll roll out of Wellington at 9:15am so get there before 9:15am and be ready to roll. The whole ride is 88 miles, the half ride is about 41 miles. We start on Wellington Cutoff (NV SR 829) out of Wellington. The route to Bridgeport Start Wellington involves a very gentle and scenic climb to Sweetwater pass on NV state route 338. The rest stop will be located roughly half of the way to Bridgeport close to the highest point of the ride. We ll have water and snacks there. This is followed by a descent to the East Walker River. We cross into California and follow the river, ride around Bridgeport Reservoir, and reach Bridgeport. On the way back we re likely to encounter a bit of a Rest Stop headwind climbing back up to the rest stop and descending back to Wellington. This is a great time of year to ride as the weather isn't too brutal and the roads are less busy with traffic. It's also a great time to catch up with what's been going on with fellow club members and doing it at a leisurely pace. Pizza will be served when the group returns around 4:00pm. Please RSVP if possible so we can get a rough idea of how much pizza to order. Turn Around Bridgeport RSVP to: davescar30@gmail.com.

Volume 14 Issue 8 Page 3 LTA LPINA Presidential Posting Chris Rhiner, President Well we are closing in on another summer season gone by. I hope you enjoyed my favorite time of year. It was way short! Cycle Oregon was cancelled due to Oregon fires. (My planned vacation) This was an unprecedented year of organized rides cancelling, we were not alone in our June predicament of needing to shut a ride down. On a positive note I was able to sneak in a few extra backpacking days and saw a bike packer at Star Lake, reminding me of yet another adventure combo I would like to see our club offer. The Tahoe Rim Trail has a new.3 mile section that just opened north of Star Lake with amazing high views of the Carson Valley. Happy Trails! PLEASE VOLUNTEER FOR A 2018 ROLE IN THE CLUB: Board members receive a free family membership and free racing. We re looking for new blood on the club s board of directors. All officer positions are up for election at the annual meeting on November 2. See the club website for descriptions of each position (Job Descriptions Page). Please see the contact Chris Rhiner for more information. We re still need volunteers to fill the following coordinator positions: Social Media Coordinator Do you have social media expertise? The club needs a volunteer to keep our presence on the Internet active and engaging for club members, our community, and event participants. Event Marketing Coordinator We need a volunteer to coordinate the promotion of all the club s activities and particularly our big fundraiser, the Alta Alpina Challenge, Riding the Wild SIerra. Pinenut Cracker Director After many years of coordinating our mountain bike race, Robert Braun is moving on and we re eager to replace him. Bicycle Advocacy Coordinator Are you passionate about cycling? We need a volunteer to represent the club at cycling advocacy meetings and report back to the club on what members need to know. RFID Racing Chips Thanks to everyone who participated in the 2017 Thursday Night Race Season. We need to get back all the race timing chips so we can refurbish them for next year. If you haven t yet returned your chip, please mail it back to the club at:! Alta Alpina Cycling Club! PO Box 2032, Minden NV 89423 Include a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) so we can return your deposit.
