Mountain Lion Gazette WA District ~ May 2018 Chapter WA - M Yakima Washington Words from your Chapter Director Hello GWRRA It s with a sad heart that I had to cancel our annual Fun Run, there just wasn t enough participates to hold the event. Hopefully later we can try again and get some commitment to participate to ride. We also will NOT be having a chapter meeting the month of May. The meeting was canceled due to having the Fun Run. There are still many things happening with GWRRA and I do hope you will get out there and have some fun riding your bike/trike and mixing it up with friends far and near and enjoying the ride! Our own Chapter M has scheduled many socials throughout the month, with every Tuesday morning meeting at Carl Jr s in Yakima, enjoying fresh coffee and maybe going for a ride, especially since the weather is being nice every day. Then we have a Dinner Socials throughout Yakima and the surrounding area, which ALL are encouraged to attend. Let s not forget about our GWRRA Chapters near and far.chapter WA-B is hosting Mall Show @ Kitsap Mall in Silverdale, WA, then Chapter WA-L is hosting their annual Desert Spring Fling Memorial weekend, May 25 th through May 28 th at the Benton Franklin Fairgrounds. Right after Desert Spring Fling is Chapter WA-R s annual Blue Mountain Rendezvous in Milton Freewater, OR. June 1 st through June 3 rd, then Chapter WA-D is hosting their annual Duck Hunt in Montesano, WA on June 9 th. This is just within a 3-week time frame, come on GWRRA members lets get out there and support our organization and our local chapters. Plus, you get to RIDE that AWESOME motorcycle and Enjoy the weather & you get to visit/socialize with friends new & old. Hope to see each of you soon! God Bless, Be Safe and Enjoy Life! Dealing with Change this article was borrowed from Mark Epperson s May safety article 2013 Change is inevitable. We all know that, but it is not always easy. Change is scary for many of us. It means that something is going to be different, possibly away from the safety that we have become used to. It also means that our role may need to change. For many, that is taking on responsibilities that are new or unaccustomed to us. Here we go again, is a sentiment that we are hearing in our District at this time, another change in leadership. If you have attended our Leadership Training Seminars, you have heard us talk about change (Managing Change), and effective leadership skills. So, I thought it might be important to share some of the main ideas to help all of us put our best foot forward to accept and deal with change. The reasons for change are many: Circumstances change Something needs to be improved Position for the future, But most importantly, We cannot grow if we don t change. The best way to prepare for change is to plan, project and communicate. At times, this is difficult when the change is unexpected and untimely. When that happens it s all about how the change is dealt with, managing your reaction to it. It may be easiest for some to say, I quit, I don t want to deal with it anymore. Or even better yet, It s not my problem, I ll let someone else deal with it, and then complain that it wasn t handled right. So, what is the right way to handle change? Or, at least manage reaction to change. It is to become part of the process, become a change agent. What does that look like? Don t become part of the rumor mill. Ask questions to the person who can give you the accurate answer. Be willing to accept the answer I don t know at this time. Be willing to step up and help! Change is scary. Uncertainty is never easy. When you are actively involved, you help in the process and make things happen for the better. REMEMBER: CHANGE IS WHAT WE MAKE IT: ATTITUDE DETERMINES ALTITUDE. Be willing to come along for the flight! As most of you know we have had different chapter Directors and some have made different changes is our chapter, some worked great and some needed to be tweaked a little. This makes for a better chapter. It s not about the old members making the choices or that s the way we ve always done it. Change is good and as we all age so gracefully we start to lose our members and hopefully we can welcome new ones into our chapter. It shouldn t matter as to what type of bike you ride but more about the friendships, happiness, and the love of the ride. I would like to thank everyone for the great job that they have done in the past to bring us to where we are today. You re probably asking yourself what does this have to do with Safety or riding? Nothing. It s just something that popped into my head the other day when I saw all the Motorcyclist out riding when I should have been thinking about work stuff. But as I drove passed Poulin s Honda and seen so many of our chapter members out there to make a difference in Motorcycle Safety Awareness It made me Proud to be a member of Washington s Chapter M. www.gwrra-wam.org
