999 Coastal Challenge The Round Britain 999 Coastal Challenge In June of this year (2014) ten operational team members of Watersafe UK Search & Rescue Team (WUKSART) will be attempting to circumnavigate the entire coastline of Britain in a Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) to raise funds for both WUKSART and the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI). This unique challenge will be a great test to all involved as we aim to circumnavigate 1,999 miles of British coastline in just 9 days, 9 hours and 9 minutes. The event will start at the RNLI Headquarters in Poole and in a clockwise direction will stop off at certain RNLI lifeboat stations situated at strategic points along the British coastline with the event eventually finishing again at Poole. The Journey On each leg of the challenge there will be a crew of four in the boat at all times. As well as obviously needing a driver, there will be a person responsible for navigation and the other crew members will be responsible for the running of the boat as well as safety officers looking out for dangers and communicating with the driver and rest of the crew. Once out at sea the boat crew will be totally alone and responsible for themselves and therefore self sufficient on each leg of the challenge carrying everything on board such as food & water, emergency equipment, spare fuel, etc. Throughout the 10 day challenge there will be a support crew which will be liaising with the boat team, HM Coastguard and the RNLI and will be following the boats progress. The support team will be meeting up with the boat at each RNLI lifeboat station at the end of each day. The 999 Coastal Challenge Route DAY 1 - START Thursday 12th June 2014 RNLI Headquarters in Poole to Penzance DAY 2 Friday 13 th June 2014 Penzance to Fishguard, Wales. DAY 3 Saturday 14 th June 2014 Fishguard to Port Erin, Isle of Man DAY 4 Sunday 15 th June 2014 Port Erin to Oban, Scotland. DAY 5 Monday 16 th June 2014 Oban to Lochinver, Scotland. DAY 6 Tuesday 17 th June 2014 Lochinver to Fraserburgh, Scotland. DAY 7 Wednesday 18 th June 2014 Fraserburgh to Whitby, North Yorkshire. DAY 8 Thursday 19 th June 2014 Whitby to Harwich, Essex. DAY 9 Friday 20 th June 2014 Harwich to Littlehampton, West Sussex. DAY 10 - FINISH Saturday 21 st June 2014 Littlehampton to RNLI Headquarters in Poole

The Aims of this Unique Challenge Aims & Objectives As being operational members of a voluntary search & rescue team we are not new to challenges or raising large amounts of money for charity but this is by far the most challenging project to date. The main aims of the Round Britain 999 Coastal Challenge are simple: To complete the gruelling challenge in 9 days, 9 hours and 9 minutes To raise a minimum of 50,000 for the RNLI and Watersafe UK Search & Rescue Team To raise awareness of both WUKSART and the RNLI Lochinver Fraserburgh Oban Whitby Port Erin Fishguard Harwich Penzance Littlehampton RNLI Poole Our route takes us in a clockwise direction starting off at RNLI Headquarters in Poole, Penzance, Fishguard, Port Erin on the Isle of Man, Oban, Lochinver and Fraserburgh in Scotland, then onto Whitby, Harwich, Littlehampton on the South Coast and finishing at RNLI Headquarters in Poole.

WUKSART Watersafe UK Search & Rescue Team Watersafe UK Search & Rescue Team (WUKSART) is a voluntary search & rescue organisation operating within Derbyshire & the East Midlands region. Our purpose is to provide primary response and operational support to the Fire Service, Derbyshire Police & DEFRA in a range of situations including; Water rescue incidents within Derbyshire Local & widespread flooding Searches for missing & vulnerable people Provide support during times of adverse weather conditions & at water related incidents We respond nationally to flooding under the DEFRA Concept of Operations policy With skills in search & rescue, water & flood rescue, rope rescue and advanced medical care WUKSART always aims to deliver a fast, dynamic and professional team. Our purpose is to provide response and support to the official Emergency Services in a range of situations, including water rescues, flood relief and support during times of adverse weather conditions, searches for missing people and be able to provide support at incidents as required. We want to share our dedication for providing the best possible care to the people and the communities in which we live, work and play. To this end all our team members are all professionals sharing a passion for saving lives. We can provide a team of volunteers who have the skills, experience, equipment and knowledge, to be able to be of genuine assistance to the Emergency Services. We provide this service at any time of the day or night, without charge, in any situation where one of the official Emergency Services or other approved organisations decides that their efforts would benefit from the support we can offer. WUKSART was originally established in response to the National Flood Enhancement Project led by the Department of the Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA) in 2009. This Government led project was designed to officially collate all the water rescue assets around the United Kingdom and type them against National standards with the aim that when National widespread flooding takes place these assets can be called upon.

RNLI Royal National Lifeboat Institute The RNLI is the charity that saves lives at sea. They provide an on call 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service and a seasonal lifeguard service. Their values reflect the way they do business as an organisation. Their purpose is to save lives at sea and their vision is simple; to end preventable loss of life at sea. Their work is based on and driven by values. All the volunteers and staff strive for excellence and are selfless, willing to put the requirements of others before their own and the needs of the team before the individual, able to see the bigger picture and act in the best interests of the RNLI, and to be inclusive and respectful of others. Most lifeboat crew members are volunteers, who come from all walks of life and give up their time and comfort to save lives at sea. They respond at a moment's notice when the pagers go off. Crews are regularly called away from their families, their beds and their work, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Their lifesaving work is essential, often difficult and sometimes dangerous. They operate through local teams, centrally directed and resourced. Their exceptional expertise is in the preservation of life at sea and on the water through prevention and rescue. The RNLI has saved more than 139,000 lives since its foundation in 1824 as the National Institution for the Preservation of Life from Shipwreck. The name was changed to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution in 1854, and cork lifejackets were first issued to crew members in the same year. The 20th century saw the RNLI continue to save lives at sea through two world wars. Lifeboats moved from sail and oar power to petrol and diesel, and the first women joined their crews. They are extremely proud of their history and tradition and of the RNLI s achievement of saving lives over nearly two centuries.

Fundraising & Sponsorship Fundraising and Sponsorship We are seeking individuals and corporate partners to help us achieve our aims of raising a minimum of 50,000, and in helping us, will benefit from being associated with our project and daring challenge. We have embedded a TV team from the BBC that is recording our story ready for a Television broadcast.
