The Fulton Street Jazz Band has been featured at jazz festivals and on jazz cruises for over 30 years. The popular and fun loving group combines a front line of outstanding ensemble and solo players with a rhythm section that builds a strong foundation for the band s powerful and unique sound. The band s extensive and varied repertoire makes each performance an exciting and strong jazz statement. Fulton Street is a delight for listeners and dancers alike. The Fulton Street band lineup is: Bob Williams trombone, Bob Sakoi trumpet & flugelhorn, Paul Edgerton reeds, Bob Ringwald (leader) piano & vocals, Vince Bartels drums, Darrell Fernandez bass. 2 Musically Speaking President s Message Mid-Summer in Modesto We all know it is mid-summer in Modesto. We celebrated our nation s 238 th birthday in 100 temperatures with a terrific downtown parade and fireworks everywhere. MoBand wrapped up its 95 th season of Concerts in the Park. I hope you all saw the MTJS ad in their program. And now it s time for you all to find your way to the Clarion for the Jazz Society s July meeting. I am hoping that our attendance picks up this month. We miss seeing many of our friends the past two months! July Special Raffle Two Tickets to Beach Blanket Babylon in San Francisco. Beach Blanket Babylon is the world's longest running musical revue. Packed with hilarious spoofs of pop culture & political characters, spectacular costumes, outrageously gigantic hats and one show-stopping number after another, the show has been dazzling audiences for nearly 40 years. A REAL DEAL!! Tickets $1 each for this Special Raffle Prize. Keep in mind, every month our big money maker is our raffle. As always, tickets for additional raffle prizes will be 6 for $5. This money mainly pays for our guest bands, this newsletter, and youth activities. The band, with its leader Bob Ringwald, features many of our favorite local musicians. Fulton Street is always fun for listeners and dancers alike. David Livingston manages the website, and Nicky Richardson and I try to keep our facebook page filled with current events. If you haven t already been there, be sure to check us out and like us! If you have any ideas or suggestions about either, please let is know. Remember the Club meeting will be Sunday, July 20th, with the first jam set beginning at 12:00 Noon. We always welcome new jammers. Please enjoy the good friendships and entertainment, but also enjoy the food and drink service that the Clarion offers, as that is our only way of showing them our appreciation for the use of their venue. Bring a new friend to the meeting and encourage them to join our Jazz Society! Put on your dancin shoes and come on down.
