DANCE PROGRAM - OVERVIEW Thank you for showing your interest in trying out for the FHS Varsity dance team! This is an informational packet to help you get an inside look at what it takes to be involved in one of the most elite teams in the valley. Please read carefully and turn in all completed forms on the first day of tryouts. By signing these papers and if you should make the team, you are held responsible for everything stated in this packet. We look forward to seeing you at tryouts! If you have any questions regarding this packet please email Coach Carey foothilldancenv@gmail.com Dance Program Goals and Objectives - - To perform/execute sidelines, cheers, and dance routines with perfect athleticism at FHS athletic events/games. To keep the crowd s attention/focus on the field or floor where interscholastic activities are taking place, and for entertainment and competitive purposes. To raise the level of a fan support for athletics, to solicit support from FHS fans, and to project that support to the school and its teams. To serve as public relations ambassadors of the school, to uphold and reflect the ideas of the school, to appear at campus and community events to promote activities, athletics, and the school. Facilitate academic success through tutoring and study hall. In all matters and policies concerning dance at FHS, it is required for each squad member to execute good citizenship and sportsmanship while representing FHS. FHS representatives and team members will conduct themselves in a proper manner (no violence, alcohol, drugs, narcotics, etc.) and in accordance with NIAA and FHS rules and regulations.
DANCE PROGRAM - OVERVIEW Varsity Dance Team Description The Foothill Varsity Dance Team will be made up of 12-18 dancers. Female dancers must have exceptional ballet/jazz, pom and hiphop technique. Male dancers must have strong background in hiphop and/or Bboy skills. The Varsity team will compete in Orlando, FL at the UDA National Dance Team Championship. Selection of competing members will be strictly and unarguably by discretion of the coaches; however, all members must attend. Alternates will be chosen strictly and unarguably by the coaching staff and will not be put in the competition dances. Their role is extremely important, especially in emergency situations; therefore, they must attend all practices, know routines flawlessly, and undergo the same conditioning and practice schedule as everyone else. Dancers must maintain no F s or U s throughout the year, have no discipline problems through the dean s office, and represent Foothill High School in a positive way throughout the entire year both in and out of dance. Attendance is mandatory at every class, after school practice, performance, fundraiser, or event. The Varsity Dance Team must be the dancer s first extracurricular activity priority.
DANCE PROGRAM - OVERVIEW JV Dance Team Description The Foothill JV Dance Team will be made up of 10-20 dancers. Female dancers must have experience in ballet/jazz, pom and hiphop technique. Male dancers must have some background in hiphop and/or Bboy skills. The Jv dance team is a building block that prepares dancers for the varsity dance team, and will uphold the same standards and expectations of the varsity team, however membership on the JV team does not guarantee a future spot on varsity. The JV dance will compete at local and some out of state competitions. Not all JV dancers are guaranteed a position in the competition routines and positions are at the discretion of the coaching staff. Dancers must maintain no F s or U s throughout the year, have no discipline problems through the dean s office, and represent Foothill High School in a positive way throughout the entire year both in and out of dance. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS 2018-2019 Are there any clinics/workouts prior to tryouts? Practice Schedules: Yes, visit www.foothilldance.net 5th period JV dance 6th period Varsity dance What time do we have off during Thanksgiving and Winter Break? Monday/Wednesday 1:30-2:30pm Workout 2:30-4:00pm JV You will receive one off during Thanksgiving and one week off during winter break for the holidays. What is required over summer? Tuesday/Thursday 1:30-2:00pm Study Hall 2:00-4:00pm Varsity Friday 1:30-3:00pm Varsity *All practices are mandatory *Evening and weekend practices are added during competition season. *Practice schedule is subject to change The months of June and August are MANDATORY. July is optional Please refer to summer practice schedules. What if I don t have all the requirements? You are still encouraged to tryout. It is a great experience and you will know what to expect for the following year.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS CONTINUED Are we allowed to work? Yes, as long as it does not conflict with our schedule. However, it is not advised. What are the fees involved? Varsity New and returning members will be expected to pay a NON-REFUNDABLE general program fee of $4000 to be a member of the team. JV is approximately $2000. A breakdown of costs and payments will be provided monthly. Fundraising opportunities will be available. Additional information will be provided at post tryout parent meeting. What sports do we dance for? Varsity performs at Varsity Football and Varsity Men s Basketball, JV performs at JV Football and Varsity Women s Basketball Do we compete? Yes, Varsity competes at the UDA High School National Competition, UDA Cactus Cup, and UDA West Coast and various other local competitions. JV competes locally. How many spots are on the team? 12-18 varsity, 10-20 JV, this includes alternates
DANCE CLINIC INFORMATION Participants that plan on trying out are highly encouraged to attend at least one dance clinic. This is an opportunity for the coaches to see you in a setting other than tryouts. Seventh and eighth graders as well as all current high school students are welcome to participate and learn about the program at these clinics. Please come dressed in appropriate dance attire. Clinic Saturday, March 10th, 2018 9:00am-11:00am, FHS Dance Room 402 *Coaches will be available after to answer any dancer or parent questions or concerns Clinic is $10, cash only
General Tryout Information Tryouts are closed to the general public. Tryout Routine will be taught on day one. Review, mile run, possible interviews, and possible first cuts will be on day two. Final tryout will be day three. Announcement of team will be after school on Friday and will be posted on www.foothilldance.net Any questions regarding tryout results will not be addressed until April 3rd,2018. Academic Requirements Dance Requirements Minimum GPA 2.0, no F s or U s on latest report card Strong background in acrobatics, hiphop, jazz and pom technique. Must be zoned for and enrolled full time at Foothill High School Skills: Quad pirouette, Aerial, Toe Touch, Turns in 2nd, Headspring, Kip Up, Handstands Must be cleared by FHS Athletic Department by registering on www.registermyathlete.com AND completing a Foothill Athletic Packet before tryouts. Teacher Evaluations must be completed and turned in to Coach Carey s mailbox at Foothill High School before tryouts. Students are not allowed to turn these in. Male dancers must have strong background in hiphop, acrobatics, Bboy skills.

Post Tryout Uniform Fittings: April 3rd, 2018 FHS Dance Room 402 2:00pm Varsity Mandatory Uniform Fitting 3:00ppm JV Mandatory Uniform Fitting -A $500 payment will be due at this time. -Remember NO REFUNDS will be given if you choose to quit.
