Scuba Schools International (SSI) has more than 35 years of experience in the scuba diving industry. SSI is known in the diving industry for providing high quality education and outstanding training materials for divers of all levels. SSI instructors are only allowed to teach in SSI affiliated facilities. This concept is unique in the industry and allows direct monitoring of all active SSI dive leaders to make sure that high quality education within the standards is provided. SSI instructors teach with proven methods using innovative training techniques so that the students will enjoy the learning experience. Through this, learning the skills becomes easy and fun. SSI has the highest quality instructional program in the diving industry and is recognized in over 90 countries world wide and has over 2000 store affiliates. So no worries about being recognized as a diver on your next trip. When you present the SSI certification card, that facility will know that you have been trained properly. Some divers ask What is the difference between certification agencies? The simple answer: a lot of difference. The roots of SSI in the diving industry go back more than 50 years. SSI was formed out of the National Association of Scuba Diving Schools (NASDS). Formed in 1967, Bob Clark the founder of SSI was the educational director of NASDS, he then later founded SSI in 1970. In 1999 SSI and NASDS merged to form one of the world s largest certification agency s. Aquatic Sports has a long history with SSI. John Powelson the founder of Aquatic Sports began his instruction with NASDS. He holds instructor #20 for NASDS. Later he helped Bob Clark organize and run the very first diver instructor training session for SSI in Newport, Oregon. John Powelson was recognized for his achievements and contributions to the diving industry in 1992 by being awarded the Platinum Pro 5000 diver award. 1992 was the first year of this prestigious award. Names such as Jacques Cousteau, Dr. Sylvia Earl, Mel Fisher and others were awarded this honor. In 2004 Jeff Powelson, president of Aquatic Sports was awarded this same honor with the induction into the Platinum Pro 5000 club. He and John now have become the second father-son inductees to the Platinum Pro 5000 club. Can you guess who the first were? John & Jeff Powelson

You will perform 18 laps in our heated pool with your snorkeling equipment to meet our industry watermanship standard. Please allow 1 hour for this appointment.. Weeknight, 4 week option: Each Tuesday night beginning at 6:00 pm you and fellow new diving enthusiasts will embark on your new aquatic adventure. Family/friends option: Design your own lesson program for 2-4 people. You will need to have 5 sessions at 2.5 hours in length to complete this phase of your scuba training. Flexibility is allowed with this program, however, all classes need to be conducted during store hours. One on One instruction: This style of class is the most flexible of all scuba programs. Make up you own schedule with one of our scuba instructors and pace yourself based upon your abilities. Finish the class in a week or take up to 5 weeks. It s up to you. Private lessons usually take between 6-10 hours of time with an instructor. Practice sessions: To complete any beginning scuba course you are required to complete 4 practice sessions at a minimum of 1 hour in duration. These practice sessions must be completed before moving into Phase II of your training. Our instructors are your scuba coaches. We can show the skills you must make the time to master them. Our goal is to create a diver, not just give a scuba experience. It is common knowledge that it takes an adult 21 repetitive actions before a skill is developed into a habit. There is no additional charge for practice sessions. John & Roy Barlean at Netarts bay, Oregon Instructor Jeremy Conklin in Truk Lagoon

If the student requests additional pool instruction, this can also be done at this time at no charge.
