UNDER 10 FOOTBALL REPORT With injuries and absent players we took an undermanned but determined team to play Sale City red. All match we chased and tackled hard. Sale City s better players ability to score when going forward was the difference on the day. The match started with both sides having equal amount of the play. Sale City Red s pace when going forward to score for the day proved the difference in the first quarter. The better players were Ryan, Baylin, Ashton and Nate. These players lead by example, getting the ball and tackling hard. In the second quarter, although Sale City had the wind it was a repeat of the first quarter. Ashton now in defense with Ally and Dylan held up well against their quicker opponents. Sale City was scoring many points despite their numerous attempts to goal. It was good to see Frankie now playing in the midfield getting amongst the packs and tackling well. After half time, with encouraging words from our coach, we continued to apply our skills to the game. With Carson and Charlie going into the middle our intensity lifted. Despite Sale City s pace, the young Wildcats tackling and pressure was a standout for the quarter. Their willingness to pass to a teammate in position, rather than just clear the area has shown how they have improved in the early rounds of the season. With Ryan now moved to the backline, he was effective at repelling many of Sale City s forward moves. For the last quarter, Coach Tony positioned the players to ensure we troubled the scoreboard. With all players still giving the same effort they had given all game, we managed to get the ball to our forward line where Baylin kicked straight to record his first ever goal in under 10 s. Thank you to Sale City Red who loaned us players to ensure an even contest occurred. UNDER 12 FOOTBALL REPORT On a magnificent day for football, the Wildcats U12s travelled to the Newry Oval to battle it out with the Nambrok Newry side. With a couple of players unavailable, a few positional changes were needed. From the first bounce the young Wildcats were up to the task and competed with the home side. The difference between the two sides was just the efficiency in front of the goals which led to Nambrok Newry taking the early lead, but the midfield of Woodside started to get on top which led to several scoring opportunities. Alex finally got the first goal and the confidence of the team really started to improve. The second quarter was much improved with the backline tightening up making it difficult for the opposition to score and Trent was able to sneak another goal. At half time the side was moved around to give all players an opportunity to play in different positions. Hamish and Rylee took their opportunities on the ball and the continued improvement of Brayden, Declan and Charlie is noticeable. Matthew battled hard in the ruck all day, missing our other tall to swap with. Nambrok Newry ran away with the game after half time with some good play. In the end after a solid display by all players, the bigger side took the points in a tight contest 57-13. Awards went to Hamish, Charlie D and Declan. UNDER 10 NETBALL REPORT This week we welcomed Ava and Lilly for their first game of netball. It was lovely to have our full team for the first time. We started in the positions that we had trained in on Thursday night and will try to keep these fairly constant over the next few weeks to help the players learn those positions. Too many changes leads to confusion in the early stages of learning the game of netball. This was a more evenly matched game this week, with the little Wildcats having plenty of the play. Ava and Ally were fantastic in defense, intercepting and rebounding well. Sophie continued to impress with her hard running and leading in the centre. Lilly and Kaylin worked hard in the wing positions with Pow playing solidly in her goal shooter role. Lauren was a our higher scorer this week shooting 2 goals and Kiera scored her first goal playing netball. The final score 545 Vixens 7 to Wildcats U10s 3. I was once again impressed with our footwork, but we will continue to work on our leading and positioning at training this week. The award this week goes to Ally for her terrific work in defense. UNDER 13 NETBALL REPORT We scored 10 goals this week what a fantastic effort!! Our ranks were looking low with Adam having a broken arm and Amy off at camp, and then, Lauren decided she was going to play and came to training welcome Lauren. Brooke H said that she could fill in for us too, so, thank you Brooke. Our last quarter was certainly our best this game, with us nearly outscoring our opposition. I made lots of positional changes throughout the game and thanks to everybody for trying them out you all did a fantastic job. We still have lots of things to work on at training, but you are all doing really well. The more you play together, the more you will get acquainted with each other on the court and the better you will get. This week the Subway award went to Phoebe Dowsett wherever I put this girl on the court, I know she is going to try her hardest - well done Phoebe. UNDER 15 NETBALL REPORT Woodside 32 def Churchill 31 What a nail biter! A game of two halves with our girls controlling the first half with strong decision making, movement and passing to lead by 6. Churchill came out very strong in second half to take advantage of our lapse. Two down at the final break, and confidence shaken, the girls to their credit fought hard to pressure turnovers, shoot accurately and snatch the lead back just in time for the final bell! Lots to take from this game, well done girls in the fight back. UNDER 17 NETBALL REPORT Great match girls, you pushed hard all match and took it to Churchill from the first whistle, the final score didn't reflect the match. Everyone dug deep and held themselves well against a very physical opposition, you were able to string together some polished passages of play and displayed strong team work - we'll get them next time!
