A suggestion was made that separate communication about Boosterthon be sent to PK and/or new families, as there was confusion within PK classes about the event. Some in PK did not get flyer; many parents in PK were unaware that it was a fundraiser. Kristen Kammer-Hattox gave a general rundown of how Boosterthon works and the activities involved. Parents should be aware that emails about Boosterthon and other school events come from advancement@baysideacademy.org. October 2016 Bayside Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes 2 INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL BAC representatives in attendance: 3 rd - Layla Yamane 4 th - Amy White 5 th - Caroline Pittman and Cindy Roussos 6 th - Ashley Jones and Jennifer Jones BAC Chair Anderson McKean and Intermediate School Secretary Katie Frailie Administrative Faculty: Dr. Kristen Ring School Counseling All Intro to the Counselor lessons were completed in September. Details of these lessons were summarized in the September e-newsletter, which can be found under the counselor tab on the school website. The self-referral process was reintroduced to the students. Several requests from students have been received and are currently being read and evaluated. A new small group will be started called Worry Warriors. Parents will be contacted if your student was suggested for the group by his/her teacher. Any parent wishing to have a student considered for this group or wanting more information should contact Andi Millsap at amillsap@baysideacademy.org. Kindness in Chalk October classroom guidance will focus on bullying to coincide with National Bullying Awareness Month. Kindness in Chalk kicked off the campaign where students wrote kind messages on the sidewalks throughout campus. Peers in Prayer A Peers in Prayer group will be starting 2nd quarter. Andi Millsap will be the staff facilitator, and Moms in Prayer plans to attend to assist. Peers in Prayer is open to all 5th and 6th graders; they will meet weekly on Thursdays during lunch from 11:36 a.m.-12:01 p.m. Community Service Jack Roussos was selected to be the Intermediate School leader for Red Ribbon Week. Details to follow about the community service project he is designing. It will be a hands-on service project focusing on drug/alcohol prevention that Intermediate School students can participate in during the month of December. Uniforms A female-cut uniform shirt is now available through Zoghby s Uniforms. The shirt must be ordered. Zoghby s has the shirts available to try on.

October 2016 Bayside Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes 3 6th grade The students are encouraged to practice good time management skills. Assignments are given in advance of their due dates. Students are encouraged to work on assignments prior to them being due. Teachers are signing agendas to support the students in completing these tasks in a timely manner. Staffing The search for a new Head of the Intermediate School is underway. Several applications have been received. An announcement will be made when a candidate is hired. Fundraising Please send in any box tops to your student s homeroom teacher. The first deadline for submission is Thursday, October 20. After that date, please continue to collect and send in box tops; the second submission deadline is in early March. Upcoming Events Grandparents Day is at 9 a.m. on Friday, October 28. Any student who doesn t have a grandparent to attend is encouraged to invite a special guest for that day. Please contact the Advancement Office with any questions or concerns. Thoughts for Next Year It was suggested that a separate Homecoming pep rally be planned for the lower grades. 2nd-6th grade football and cheerleading teams could be introduced. This would allow for grade-appropriate activities and themes. UPPER SCHOOL BAC representatives in attendance: 7th - Tracy VanderMeeden 9th - Alicia Cunningham and Sally Schmidt 10th - Kathy Yow 12th - Lori Kannegieter Secretary - Allison Hixson Administrative faculty: Dylan Deal Bayside Billing In response to questions raised during the September BAC meeting, Bayside billing consistency for campus spirit items has been addressed by Administration. Items eligible and ineligible for student billing are outlined below. Additional items proposed by parents for student billing are being reviewed and evaluated by Administration.

October 2016 Bayside Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes 4 Items billed through student billing: Booster Club Class Trips Division-Specific Sponsored Event Items Extended Day Fees Food The Learning Place Lost Library Books School Store Purchases Sports Testing Fees Textbooks Tuition Tuition Insurance Yearbooks/Senior Ads Items not billed through student billing: Auction Items Bay Affair/Gate/Play Tickets Event T-Shirts Sponsorships Grades and Assignments Parents would like assistance in encouraging teachers to post grades as soon as possible for parents to stay aware of student status. Additionally, posting of assignments ahead of time on NetClassroom and Google Classroom is important to parents as students plan their workload with their activity schedule. Intermediate School Head Credentials are in for candidates at the Skype-interview level with on-campus interviews occurring soon. Fulfilling this position directly affects the hiring position for Provost at Bayside as some candidates may be suited for a dual role on campus. Homecoming Hot but successful Uniform News A female-cut uniform polo shirt has been approved by Bayside as an option to the unisex style presently available at Zoghby s Uniforms. As we are into the school year, Zoghby s will not stock the female style with the Bayside monogram but will accept orders. There are female sizes

October 2016 Bayside Advisory Committee Meeting Minutes 5 available to try on at the store. Drama Performance and PE Credit Parents ask that the criteria for an activity to count as PE credit might include participation in drama or dance programs on campus. Kristen Ring, Dylan Deal and Mr. Papa are in conversation to understand state requirements for graduation and approval of this type of credit. Students who participate in band or a school sport presently receive 0.5 credits in PE. BAC will report back with this information as appropriately determined.
