U13 Rep selection proposal Gary spoke about the new U13 rep selection proposal. Proposal is attached. 2. Sal Vasta (QC Board member) He said that there were conflicting QC financial reports by the Finance Director vs the Auditor. Both were correct using different accounting principles but QC were losing money badly. The Board determined there were 3 places to cut costs - Head Office, QC Affiliates where 14 positions were lost and Game Development who lost 5 RCM positions. QC now needs a new Game Development Manager, a new Finance Director and a new Chief Executive Officer. He said that the player insurance email and subsequent concerns was not handled well by QC. He summarized by saying QC needed to recoup the insurance money they were paying to JLT and by collecting $5 a player it should cover the insurance amount. All people are covered for insurance, the same as last year, as it has been paid by QC. We will be advised how payments can be made in March or April next year. He acknowledged that they had not replied to the email sent by the BNJCA Secretary, expressing concerns in a number of areas. The lack of recognition of Sport by the Qld Government was causing concerns as the Sports minister didn t appear to be too interested in Sport. We all needed to try and come at the Government from different directions to try and get our concerns heard. BNJCA U13 Rep Team Selections Draft Proposal While our current Under 13 Selection process gives us confidence that we are selecting the right players a high percentage of the time, many coaches and selectors agree that we can naturally improve this "strike rate" with more exposure to the players prior under game situations. The current format (2 x l day trials approx. 60 players to Day l, reducing to approx. 35 for Day 2) adequately highlights the skills of each player in each discipline, however it does not allow selectors to closely examine other important traits such as endurance, mental toughness, temperament, team orientation, and general cricket "smarts", most of which can only be displayed through players performances in a game situation against players of similar or higher ability. The success of the re-vamped U14 Selection Process, incorporating the Anstey La Frantz Shield, and also the value selector s gain from the use of Lord Tavemers as a selection tool for Ul 5 and 16s, has also convinced many that we should look at a similar process for the Under 13s as well. Anstey La Frantz Shield The Anstey La Frantz Shield is a six-team, catchment based competition, played over 5 Sundays 3 games are played Oct Nov, with the final 2 games played in February. Rounds 1-3 also double as final selection trials for Under 14s. Last season, changes were made to the U 13 criteria for this competition which allows for up to four U13s to be selected per catchment team. Feedback from our coaches has indicated that this has improved the standard of the competition and also fast-tracked the development of our rep level U13s. Currently, many of our top Under 13s are denied games in the ALF early rounds, due to the Under 13 Selection days overlapping with these games. This is reducing the quality of cricket being played in these early rounds of ALF, and also denying invaluable experience and preparation for our Under 13s ahead of the up-coming representative season. What is being proposed? Step 1 - Preliminary U/13 Trial and ALF Trial (Tue 17 / Wed 18 and Thu 19 Sep) Rep players from last season to receive an auto invite, with clubs to put forward names of any other eligible players that they believe are capable of pushing for selection who would attend. Each player would only attend on one of these afternoons. Trial would take the form of a net session, and incorporate some fielding drills. From the Preliminary Trial day, the Under 13 selectors would identify approximately 45-50 players who they believe are capable of pushing for selection into either the Championship team, or one of the two Development teams to be picked in 2013. Step 2 Anstey La Frantz Selections (Championship Team) (Sun 6, Sun 13 and Sun 20 Oct) From this selected list of 45-50, the top 18 players (ie. those who selectors believe will push for Championship level selection) would be selected to participate in the Anstey La Frantz Shield Competition. These 18 players would effectively be vying for a place in the Under 13 Championship Team. While not guaranteed, it is highly likely that any U13 player pre-selected for ALF, and then ultimately not selected for the Championship team would be selected for one of the two development teams. Step 3 Final Trial Day (Development Team) (Sun 13 Oct) Those players shortlisted, but not automatically selected for ALF (approx. 27-32 players), would be invited to attend a final selection trial day, where modified game formats would be used, in the same way that the Under 13 Selection days have run in previous seasons. 4
