Santa Teresa Women s Golf Club 2 CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP This was a most unusual year for our club championship. We had a drought year, but it rained, very lightly the second day of play. Our women played on anyway. Then on the third day of play there was a downpour and we had to cancel play, thus making our tournament a two day event. We celebrated with coffee and cake at 8 am, passed out the prizes and were home by 9:30. Our club champion is Becke Reese. This is two years in a row! Congratulation to all who played this year; everyone was a winner. 2014 Santa Teresa Club Championship (Two Days) Champion Becke Reese 81 84 165 Runner up Rosemary 81 86 167 Haeckel 1 st Low Gross Carla Munoz 86 87 173 2 nd Low Gross Jan Hew 89 87 176 1 st Low Net Gina Gordon 78 77 155 2 nd Low Net Mary Forster 76 80 156 Contender Sei Lee 2nd Flight Emi Tuvey 1 st Low Gross 97 96 193 Young Kerr 2 nd Low Gross 97 97 194 Mary Stern 3rd Low Gross 98 97 195 L.K. This year we had 51 players divided into 5 flights. The friendly competition was keen and fun was had by all. The results have been posted on our web site and our bulletin board. I would like to give special recognition to Maria Kuschill and Marie Balling for scoring the lowest net score of 49. The rest of the first place flight winners scored either 51, 52 or 53. Also congrats to Gina Gordon who valiantly played alone and won 2nd in her flight winning a back 9 tie breaker. Good job ladies! For the rest of us that didn't win there's always next year. Thanks again for your very active participation.
Santa Teresa Women s Golf Club 3 STARTERS AND SCORERS HOME & HOME Hello Santa Teresa Home & Home Ladies, FINDING A REPLACEMENT If you find that you will be unable to Start or Score on your assigned day, please be aware that it is your INDIVIDUAL responsibility to find your own replacement and to notify the Starters & Scorers Chairperson of any changes. Please do not ask the Co- Captain to send out a group email to find a replacement for you. As a suggestion, the easiest way to find your own replacement is to check the Starters & Scorers schedule in the STWGC Blue Handbook and look for potential dates where you would be able to exchange with someone, i.e., she would take your date and you would take her date. A simple email or phone call would accomplish the task. Experience has shown that the ladies are more than willing to exchange dates if they are available. Once you have found someone to exchange dates with, please send an email to the Starters & Scorers Chairperson regarding the changes ASAP. Thanks in advance for your cooperation; it is greatly appreciated! The results for the Home & Home have been posted on our site. But I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate every one of you who signed up for the Home and Home. Yes, it was my crazy idea to start up this event again and I was happy to get it rolling. But it was all of you who made it happen. Without your commitment and enthusiasm it would not have been the success it was. I also want to thank the Santa Teresa ladies who stepped up to help out: Carla Munoz, Dora Moutafian, Leta Walter, Mary Forster, and Patty Yelvington. When you see these gals, thank them too! I had so many people on both teams tell me how much they enjoyed themselves and were very excited to have this friendly challenge back on the schedule. I am hoping that Mary Zimmerman from Coyote will agree to cochair again. I believe we made a pretty good team and have everything in order to keep this tradition going no matter who runs it. So look for me to do it again in 2015.but this time I want to have the trophy end up in OUR case! Deal!?? Note to new members: See Jan or Joan to have your photo taken at the party.

Santa Teresa Women s Golf Club 5 RULES CORNER Player s shot hits a shared cart What is the ruling? A couple of months ago I was playing in a foursome where two gals were riding and sharing a cart. On the 9 th hole, one of pair was near the cart path on the right side and her playing competitor parked the cart behind her. After a mighty swing the ball hit something and ricocheted behind her, hitting the cart. Here s the ruling covered under USGA rules 19-2 and 19-3 If player A and B are in an individual medal play competition and are sharing a cart, and A s ball in motion is deflected or stopped by the cart, A incurs a penalty of one stroke (Rule 19-2), unless the cart is being driven by player B when the incident occurs. If B is driving the cart, there is no penalty, and A has the option of playing the ball as it lies or replaying the stroke. Remember the Holiday Party on December 5 th!!! Also, have your photo taken if we don t have one for you or have your photo updated In the incident stated above, I do believe her playing competitor was driving the cart and therefore the one whose ball hit the cart should have been not assessed any penalty, but allowed to replay the shot.
