Message from the President Clay Meininger, TCC President & COO It s hard to believe it is March daylight savings is the second weekend of the month which means longer days to enjoy golf and tennis. Kent and his team have been hard at work pruning trees and removing those that have taken a turn for the worse. All benches have been repainted and new pin flags will be arriving soon. In addition, the tee box on eight has been lengthened along with others being looked at for expansion/ addition. If you have not seen the new Tennis Shop make sure to stop and say Thanks to everyone hello to the staff. Over the course of the next few weeks, we will be who came out and adding additional seating and artwork. Kent, Junior and Russ, along celebrated their with their teams, have done a good job changing the look of the shop. Valentine s Day Chef Shawn and his staff have come up with some great features for here at TCC! the month. It all starts with Sushi and Dim Sum Night on Wednesday, March 1 check out our upcoming events section on page 6 for more details. You will not want to miss this fun event! Call (785) 354-8561 for reservations. With St. Paddy s on Friday, March 17, Shawn and his staff have created three offerings you will not want to miss. Not to mention, if you are in to seafood, you will have to come out and try one of the Scallop limited edition features of the month. Good luck to all Kansas teams who make the tournament and don t forget to Spring forward on March 12. Message from the Chef Shawn Hartwig, Executive Chef When March comes around, some people think about basketball and all the madness. I like to think about how nice it is here is Kansas, I m used to still having snow on the ground, where we are going to have to start watering the greens here. It s with spring in mind that we changed our menus and features for the Club. I hope you enjoy. It s all about Scallops this month. We will be getting fresh Scallops all month from northern Japan. Renowned for their sweetness, if you re a Scallop fan, it s worth a trip out. You can try these Scallops three different ways in a wonderfully light and refreshing Ceviche appetizer, grilled in a Raspberry and Almond Salad or Seared with Fresh Sweet Corn Polenta with Charred Tomato and Corn Relish with a Bourbon Roasted Jalapeño Cream. Part of the fun of March is St. Patrick s Day. It makes me think of leprechauns, the color green, and of course, Irish food. And here at TCC, we will do our Irish right. We ll have our Tender Corned Beef and Cabbage with Red Potatoes, Carrots and Horseradish Mustard Sour Cream. Shepard s Pie with fluffy Mashed Potatoes, Carrots, Celery and Braised Beef, but instead of just serving it, we decided to roll all of that up in an Egg Roll Wrapper and fry it till it s crispy and serve it with a Jameson Demi. And of course my favorite, St. James Lamb Stew- Hearty Lamb with Parsnips, Potatoes, Carrots, Celery and Onions in a Fresh Thyme infused Guinness Broth. If you haven t been to one of our Cooking Classes, this is the one you should come to. In my 18 years of professional cooking, I ve worked with and for some very talented people. A pair of chefs I worked for in Minneapolis not only won James Beard Awards (like the gold medal for cooking) but run the best Spanish restaurant I ve ever eaten or worked at. They taught me how important seasonal and fresh ingredients are and also how simple meals have more to them than meets the eye. I ll bring in some Spanish wines for everyone to try because you can t do Tapas without a glass or two. I hope you see you there. And if you re reading this after March 1, I really hope you made it to our Sushi and Dim Sum Night. Not only are we going to be preparing the best Sushi in Topeka- okay, Kansas- but we will be trying some of my favorite dishes from all over Asia. The Three Cups Chicken alone is worth coming out to try. 2 Our March Limited Edition Entrée Seared Scallops with Corn Polenta, Charred Tomato & Corn Relish, Grilled Scallions, Roasted Jalapeño & Bourbon Cream

As aficionados of the annual ritual know, this suggests we are in for six more weeks of cold winter weather. That may be true for Phil up in the north east, but we are sure enjoying a very mild winter here at TCC! I ve recently seen several golfers out on the course enjoying the mild weather and keeping their golf skills honed. TCC Ladies, we have a couple of important dates approaching that I hope you get on your calendars. First, our Annual Meeting will be held on March 28th at 10:00 a.m. and I hope you will plan to attend. Second, our opening day is April 4th! We will begin with a brief meeting at 8:30 a.m. in the LADIES LOCKER ROOM followed with a 9:00 start to our golf season. If you have been thinking of getting in more golf this season, come out and join us. We have all skill levels and the TCC ladies are a great group to be with...come out and join us! We don t know whether old Punxsutawney Phil is right or wrong with regard to the weather. But what we do know, is as long as we continue to have these mild days, think about getting out and playing a few holes the TCCWGA golf season is not that far away! 3

Children must be 5 years or older. Bring a friend or two to join in on the fun! News Kent Morgison, Superintendent The month of March is upon us, and for those of you that have not taken advantage of a relatively mild winter, it is time to dust off your clubs and begin to get your game in shape. The maintenance staff is prepared to give you another great year of golf here at TCC, and although there are not any major changes to the course, we have been busy with a few smaller projects that we hope will be a nice addition to an already great facility. We have installed new driving range target posts that we think will add to your practice routine. The poles are larger than the usual flagsticks that have been in place, and should give you better visibility when you choose your targets. The poles are equipped with the reflector prisms that your range finder will pick up, so carry distance will be easily ascertained. We also are in the process of rebuilding the back half of the tee complex on hole 8. If you recall, that section of the tee was extremely narrow and a bit unlevel. There also was a drain basin on the east side of the tee that was an eyesore and has now become obsolete. Once the work is complete, the end result will have 3 separate teeing grounds, all at slightly different elevations that we believe will be a small but needed improvement to the hole. From the back tee, it will play slightly longer as well. Our hope is to have the work completed by the end of March at the latest. There are also plans to build a new forward tee on #9 in the near future. Lastly, March also brings on the four-letter word of aerification. Currently, we are scheduled for March 27-28, using the same coring process we performed last season. I know there were some concerns last year of how long it took for the greens to recover. When growing conditions are right, greens will recover from aerification in roughly 2 weeks. The grass variety we have was developed in Texas, and thrives in warmer temperatures than we sometimes get in late March and early April here. Until these conditions arrive, growth isn t as vigorous as desired, regardless of the amount of fertilizer applied. For this reason, March dates are considered a little early, but with a busy April schedule are necessary. We will do everything in our power to push recovery, but Mother Nature may need to give us a boost. As always, we appreciate your patience as this needed practice is completed. 5
