For all events, Boys should be accompanied by a leader and unless otherwise indicated uniform should be worn. The Underground Challenge was popular last session, we ve made a few changes to it and are repeating it at the start of the session. We ve been holding a Pantomime for Anchor Sections for a number of years and this year it s open to Junior Sections too, Saturday 1 st December, see the separate flyer. The Sports will take place at the Emirates on Friday 17 th January, it will take the same format as previous sessions, entry information will go out later. We ve re-introduced the Ten Pin Bowling morning at Springfield Quay on 2 nd February. We ve added General Knowledge rounds to the Bible Knowledge Quiz in February, it s the same day as the Figure Marching and we ve staggered the start times. UNDERGROUND CHALLENGE Date: Saturday 6 October 2018 1.00 pm 4.00 pm Battalion Headquarters Entries Due: Thursday 4 October This is a treasure hunt type activity, teams will travel around the Subway system, solving clues and completing challenges at various locations at or close to Subway stations. This was a new event last session, based on feedback we received we have made some changes to how it will work. A team will comprise a leader with up to 5 Boys. There is a charge of 10 per team. Boys should wear their sweatshirt and suitable clothing for being outdoors. Teams will set off from Battalion HQ with a list of challenges and questions based at or close to Subway stations and should do as many as they safely can during the allotted time, deciding themselves where to go and which challenges to attempt. Some of the challenges will involve taking photographs at specific locations and so teams will require a mobile phone or digital camera. UNKNOWN FACTOR Date: Saturday 17 November 2018 Entry Due: 10.00 am Battalion Headquarters Monday 5 November This competition is open to all Junior Sections and comprises of 4 'challenges'. Details of these are NOT issued in advance, but are likely to be something like:- Short film clip followed by 'observation' questions Puzzle Quiz Obstacle Course A 'team' comprises of 3 Boys, one each from P4, P5 and P6. Younger Junior Section Boys may step up an age group, but not 'down' Sections may enter more than one team, however each Boy may only be part of one team. If you have insufficient Boys to make up a team, but wish to take part, that is OK. Bring them along and we will try to make up a combined team (or teams). Boys should arrive IN UNIFORM but also bring PT kit to change for the Obstacle Course Teams should be at Battalion HQ in time to allow a prompt start. TEN PIN BOWLING Date: Saturday 2 February 2019 10.00 am AMF Bowling, Springfield Quay, Glasgow G5 8NP Entries Due: Rough numbers Monday 3 December Final numbers Monday 28 January Sections may bring as many Boys as they like. Boys should wear their BB poloshirt or sweatshirt. The cost will be 3 per Boy for one game. Monies to be paid on the day of the event. The duration of a game with seven Boys using one lane will be around 1 hour. In the past Sections have stayed on for a second game, if you intend to do this please let us know so we can advise the venue. BIBLE KNOWLEDGE & GENERAL KNOWLEDGE QUIZ Date: Saturday 23 February 2019 Entry Due: 3.00 pm Kenmuir Mt Vernon Church 2405 London Road, Glasgow, G32 8XT Monday 11 February There is an individual competition for Boys in each age group, with top score from each age combined to decide a winning Section. Boys will be asked multiple choice questions. There will be rounds on General Knowledge as well as Bible Knowledge The Bible Knowledge rounds will be based on the story of David, taken from the Good News Bible, note that the Good News and NIV translation are very similar. o 1 Samuel 16: 1-13 o 1 Samuel 17: 1 51 The Quiz is being held on the same day as the Figure Marching Competition, Sections may take part in both.
