Michelle s Academy of Dance and Performing Arts Center Performance Company Information So you re considering joining the MADPAC Company? Here are some things you should know before auditions. Students are selected by audition only. Unfortunately, not every dancer will be accepted. If this happens to you, please do not get discouraged. Hard work and determination can help you to achieve the skills necessary to re-audition the following year. Being a part of the MADPAC Company is a privilege and all team members are expected to act professionally and treat all teachers and peers with respect and kindness. If after reading through all of the information it sounds like too much of a commitment at this time, we would love for you to try our recreational program instead Minimum requirements for each level of MADPAC Company are: Pre-Company (ages 5-7) 1 Technique weekly 1 Ballet/Tap weekly (1 free optional class) Learn 2-3 competition dances Participate in 2 competitions and 1 convention; plus any in-studio master classes that apply Jr. Prep Company (ages 7-9) 1 Ballet weekly 1 Technique weekly (2 free optional classes) Learn 3-4 competition dances Participate in 2 competitions and 1 convention; plus any in-studio master classes that apply Extra Community ad Charity Performance

Expectations of a MADPAC Company dancer are: Student Class/Convention/Competition Attendance Team members are required to attend ALL company classes and rehearsals, including weekend and impromptu practices. You MUST have excellent attendance in all required company and optional classes. A team member having more than 4 absences of one class (required or nonrequired) will be evaluated and possibly removed from the company. ALL absences are to be made up in another class that is equivalent to the one missed. Team members must attend all competitions that are scheduled for the team. Not making yourself available for a competition or workshop are reasons for immediate dismissal. When attending conventions or in-studio workshops, all students must attend ALL classes and scholarship auditions during the weekend. Time Management School is a very important part of any dancer s life. On that note, we suggest you practice time management. Each dancer has a different schedule and situation so time management is extremely important! There are ways to really work school, church, family, music, sports, etc. with your dance. All it takes is commitment, setting priorities and time management. Dedication to the team means making sacrifices and being focused. Sports, Cheerleading, Pom, Music Lessons, Etc.: We cannot work our schedule around 40+ dancers extra-curricular activities. When we set our schedule of classes, it is your responsibility as a member of the team to be at your classes on time, as well as attend all scheduled rehearsals. Again, time management and good planning is recommended. The following is a list of activities and special events that Company Members WILL NOT be excused from missing company technique class or rehearsal. This is not a complete list since it is impossible to list every activity available in which kids can participate, so if you are unsure PLEASE ASK!! As a member of the MADPAC Competition Company, you will not be excused for, permitted to arrive late, or leave early for the following: Games, practices, try-outs, performance, competition, or other activities associated with sports, drill/cheer/pom team, including marching band, color guard or any other similar activity; rehearsal or performances of any show for school, church, or community theater productions; preparation for a school or choir show, preparations for a school dance or party; after school or weekend job in which you have been scheduled to work on a dance day; vacations and weekend trips not related to the previously mentioned family or religious events; chorus or band concerts unless these are a required part of your grade. If required, a note from a parent must be submitted in advance.

If the need arises, individual activity conflicts will be addressed on an individual basis. The following reasons are the ONLY exceptions for these absences: 1) To attend a dance convention or workshop (that has been given prior approval by the teacher) 2) Attendance as required by your school to overnight camps or other field trips, and other academic (not clubs or sports) functions that become a part of your grades 3) Should you have a lot of homework, you are expected to try your best to get it done before dance class time. If it is impossible, YOU, not your parent, are required to call the studio and let us know. You will be excused ONCE ONLY to study for exams or do homework. You are also required to bring in a note, signed by a parent, stating that you were working on homework or studying and unable to attend dance class. Do not forget that missing more than four classes will be reason to be removed from the team. 4) Immediate family weddings or funerals 5) Contagious virus 6) An injury that prevents you from dancing Teamwork: Remember you are a TEAM MEMBER!! Work hard and be a good sport! Not talking about others behind their back, absolutely no bragging, teasing or complaints. Be well-mannered at all times-no talking in class or chewing of gum, and leave bad attitudes at the door!! All team members are expected to respect their fellow dancers. You are expected to arrive ON TIME for ALL classes and rehearsals. No excuses. A team member may not miss a company class/rehearsal the week prior to any competition, and doing so may result in being pulled from one or more of your competition dances. Negative behavior will absolutely not be tolerated. Saying things like I can t, or It s too hard, or I m too tired, or exhibiting negative behavior such as rolling your eyes or not focusing may result in being asked to leave class and being marked absent for the day.

Dress Code: You are required to dress properly for ALL classes and rehearsals, including attire, hair and shoes. Saturday rehearsals are BLACK OUT days all students must wear all black, form fitting dance clothing. This helps the choreographers clean dances much more easily. All company students are required to purchase the MADPAC Company Warm-up gear. Warm-ups should be worn at all conventions, competition and award sessions. Additional MADPAC gear can also be purchased to represent your team or dancer if desired, that includes the parents **This is simply an overview of what is expected from our MADPAC Company Dancers. For a more complete list, including payment information and more detailed competition information, please consult the MADPAC Performance Company Handbook.
