AMERICAN Y-FLYER SAILING ASSOCIATION 2018 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP REGATTA Harbor Island Yacht Club Old Hickory, TN July 9-13, 2018 The organizing authority for this regatta is the American Y-Flyer Sailing Association (AYFSA), The venue and host for this regatta is the Harbor Island Yacht Club, Old Hickory, Tennessee (HIYC). 1 RULES NOTICE OF RACE 1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing, RRS, for 2016 2020, including the US Sailing Prescriptions, except Prescriptions related to RRS 63.2 and 63.4. 1.2 The By-Laws of the American Y-Flyer Sailing Association, AYFSA, this Notice Of Race, and the Sailing Instructions for this regatta will apply. 1.3 Changes to the Racing Rules of Sailing RRS Rule 32.3 is changed as follows: If the Race Committee signals a shortened course, by displaying Code Flag S with two sounds from a support boat, the next leg of the course is the last leg of the race and ends at the Finish Line at the RC Boat. The shortened course shall be signaled before the first boat rounds the mark or passes through the gate beginning the new last leg of the race. Display of the shortened course signal shall be continued, with sounds, as all subsequent boats round the mark or pass through the gate. 1.4 Sailing Instructions are available on line at yflyer.org under this regatta under Racing. 2 ADVERTISING Advertising shall be in accordance with ISAF Regulation 20. 3 CHAMPIONSHIP, CHALLENGER, AND JUNIOR FLEETS 3.1.1 The Regatta will consist of a Junior National Championship Fleet, a Senior National Championship Fleet, and a Challenger Fleet, 3.1.2 Skippers competing in the Senior National Championship Regatta must register for either the Championship or Challenger Fleet except that a Juniior skipper may register for both the Junior Fleet and either the Championship or Challenger Fleet. Skippers shall not switch between the Championship and Challenger Fleets after the start of racing on Wednesday July 11, 2020. Fleet choice as indicated at Registration, or as changed by hail to the Race Committee before the start of the first race, shall govern for all National Championship and Challenger races. 3.3 The Championship and Challenger Fleets will race together as a single fleet, but will be scored separately. Both will race on the same course and will start together at the same time.. 4 FEES 4.1 Required fees are as follows: Fleet Registration received on or before 6/25/2018 after 6/25/2018 Championship $250 $270 Challenger $250 $270 Junior $ 50 $ 70
4.2 A $5 discount for Championship and Challenger competitors who are US Sailing members and exhibit their US Sailing current membership. 5 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY 5.1 This Regatta is open to all boats of the Y-Flyer Class which display a AYFYRA measurement plaque 5.2 Skippers and Crews in the Junior National Championship shall not have reached their 19th birthday by July 10, 2018. Junior competitors may join AYFSA at the Regatta. 5.3 Skippers and crews in the Junior, Championship, and Challenger Fleets must be Active, Junior, Life, or Honorary 2018 members of AYFSA before the Regatta and may join AYFSA at the Regatta, 5.4 Boats and sails being used in the Regatta must be presented for check-in inspection before the Competitors Meeting of the related Fleet of the Regatta. 5.5 Skippers may enter the Regatta by completing the attached form and sending it, together with the required fee, to: Registration received on or after June 25 will be for receipt by Monday, July 9, 2018, or by registering in person at the regatta by Sunday, July 8, 2018 at 5:00PM for the Junior Fleet and by Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at 5:00PM for the Championship and Challenger Fleets. Advanced email registration and payment upon arrival is acceptable if reservation is made on or before June 25, 2018. 6 SCHEDULE All times are Central Daylight Savings Time 6.1 Registration at the HIYC Clubhouse Sunday, July 8, 2018, 1:00 PM 5:00 PM Monday, July 9, 2018, 10:00 AM 5:00 PM Tuesday, July 10, 2018, 10:00 AM 5:00 PM 6.2 Scheduled Measurement and Inspection: Competitors planning to arrive after the close of Registration will contact the Regatta Chairman to arrange a late Measurement and Inspection. 6.3 Dates of racing: Sunday, July 8, 2018, 1:00 PM 5:00 PM Monday, July 9, 2018, 10:00 AM 5:00 PM Tuesday, July 10, 2018, 10:00 AM 5:00 PM Day Date Junior, Championship, and Challenger Fleets Monday July 9, 2018 Practice Racing, Racing Tuesday July 10, 2018 Practice Racing, Racing Wednesday July 11, 2018 Racing Thursday July 12, 2018 Racing Friday July 13, 2018 Racing The maximum number of races per day, including a practice race, for all of the Fleets of the Regatta is 4. Weather conditions may reduce this quantity. No more than 3 races will be sailed back to back without a shore break. 6.4 The scheduled time of the Warning Signal for the Junior Practice Race is 10:30. The Warning Signal of the first Junior Fleet race will follow the Practice Race. The Warning Signal of the second day of racing will be at 10:30AM. 6.5 No Junior Fleet race shall start after 3:00PM on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 if 2 or more races have been completed.
6.6 The scheduled time of the Warning signal for the Championship and Challenger Fleet Practice race is 3:00PM on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, or following the completion of the Junior Regatta, which ever is later. 6.7 The scheduled time of the first Warning Signal each day for the Championship and Challenger races is 10:30AM 6.8 No Championship or Challenger Fleet race shall start after 3:00PM on Friday July 13, 2018 if 3 or more races have been completed. 7 MEASUREMENTS 7.1 Each boat shall display a AYFYRA Certification Plaque. 7.2 The following measurements may be taken: boat weight, bands on spars, sail dimensions. 7.3 Boats will be checked for the safety equipment as required by the Y-Flyer Specifications and Restrictions - e.g.: anchor, chain, warp, life vests, paddle, and bailing bucket. 8 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS Sailing instructions are on the Class web site yflyer.org under this regatta under Racing, and at registration. 9 VENUE 9.1 The included map shows the location of the HIYC harbor and racing area on the Cumberland River 10 THE COURSES The courses to be sailed will be Windward Leeward, sailing the windward leg 3 times. There will be an offset mark at the windward mark and a gate at the leeward mark. 11 SCORING 11.1 The AYFSA scoring system will be as delineated in the AYFSA By-Laws. 11.2 (a) Skippers registered in both the Championship and Challenger Fleets will sail together and be scored together and are eligible for Championship Fleet prizes. Skippers registered in the Challenger Fleet will be scored separately and are eligible for Challenger Fleet prizes. (b) Skippers registered in the Challenger Fleet who receive a Championship Fleet prize will not also receive a Challenger Fleet Prize. 11.3 (a) Two races are required to be completed to constitute the Junior Regatta. When fewer than four races have been completed, a Skipper s series score will be the total of her race scores. When four races have been completed, a Skipper s Regatta score will be the total of the race scores excluding the worst score. Any Disqualification Not Excludable (DNE) score will not be excluded from the Regatta score (b) Three races are required to be completed to constitute the Championship and Challenger Regatta. When fewer than six races have been completed, a Skippers s Regatta score will be the total of all race scores. When six or more races have been completed, a Skipper s Regatta score will be the total of all race scores excluding the worst score. Any Disqualification Not Excludable (DNE) score will not be excluded from the Regatta score. 12 RADIO COMMUNICATION VHF Radio Competitors may use a VHF radio to hear communication from the RC Boat pertaining to On the Water race instructions to the competitors.
