CHEER CHATTER 02/03 Third Edition Eastview Lighting Cheerleading Boosters News January 2003 What have our Sport Cheerleaders been up to? The football and girls soccer varsity cheerleaders had extended seasons this year due to our teams winning ways during the playoff season. The football cheerleaders got a little help from four senior guys at the Rochester game. Who knows, maybe we ll have a co-ed squad before long. Thanks guys! The JV Football Cheerleaders enjoy a beautiful fall day cheering on their team. Have your daughter bring in a picture of their team at a game for future Cheer Chatter editions. COACHES TALK Coach Raymond on Sport Cheerleading: Four new winter sport squads are busy cheering on their teams (varsity and JV basketball, varsity hockey and the freshman squad.) Each squad will have their own coach this winter and we welcome Amanda Redding (graduate from EVHS in 2002 and former EVHS cheerleader) who will coach the freshman squad. Unfortunately there weren t enough cheerleaders to fill a squad for wrestling this year. The Varsity Comp Squad performed before the meet on December 19th and cheerleaders will be sure locker decorations and signs show their support. Coach Raymond
Comp Cheerleaders Perform at the Metrodome The Varsity Comp Squad performed during halftime during the State Football Tournament on Friday, November 15 th. We lost the game, but the girls looked great. What an opportunity! LAKE CONFERENCE COMPETITION January 6 th Eastview High School hosted the Lake Conference Cheerleading Competition. It was a great afternoon and everything ran beautifully. The high schools competing with EVHS included Apple Valley, Bloomington Jefferson, Burnsville, Eagan, Eden Prairie, Lakeville, and Rosemount. The JV teams from the district high schools performed in exhibition unfortunately our girls had to pull out the day of the competition due to injuries. Eastview tied for first place with Eden Prairie. Watch for the district teams to be shown on the district TV station in the near future. A special thanks to Marthea Putnam and Linda Larson for heading up this event, and to Mark Goltzman for organizing concessions. They were all backed up by a great group of volunteer parents who made the event go smooth for everyone thanks to all who gave of their time and talents, your efforts are much appreciated. A special thanks to our coaches, along with Joan Beckmann and Bruce Miller, EVHS Athletic Director. The EVHS Cheer Booster Organization was able to earn additional fundraising dollars through the sale of concessions, t-shirts, carnations, and balloons at this event. A final tally of the money earned will be reported at a later date.

Alumni Corner Hey girls! I hope you all are having a great year with Eastview Cheerleading. It does not seem like long ago that I was senior cheerleader with college cheerleading on my mind. Although it is a big commitment, college cheerleading is a great opportunity to extend your cheering career. I would recommend this opportunity to any one of you girls. Currently, I am a cheerleader at Iowa State University. The team there consists of JV and Varsity teams, both being co-ed. This was the most exciting part about joining a college team. Not only do all the girls fly, but practices are a blast. With the boys around, it makes practice fun and enjoyable, but they also push you harder than your female teammates ever have. Coaching is another very big difference. Coming from a great program at Eastview, I was expecting to go to college and be pushed by my coach harder than I could imagine. The fact is, the coaches are there telling you what to do, but you have to self-motivate the entire time. This is hard to do at times, and I have found it to be the greatest challenge on a college team. In the end, being a college cheerleader is an exciting thing. The benefits of cheering in college far outweight the negatives. I cannot describe how exciting it is to be cheering at a football game in front of thousands and thousands of people. It is a great opportunity that I hope many of you take advantage of. Good luck with the rest of the season girls! Call me anytime to chat or if you have any questions!!
