GENERAL SHOW RULES 1. COGGINS: An ORIGINAL, CURRENT Coggins form indicating a negative test must be provided for review by the Little International Show Chair or a designee. A COPY OF THE NEGATIVE COGGINS must also be provided for UW-Madison Saddle and Sirloin and Bound s Showtime Arena to keep on file as required by Wisconsin state law. No animal will be allowed to remain on the show grounds without the required Coggins documents. 2. GENERAL SAFETY: During a class, any animal or rider, who in the opinion of the judge is endangering the safety of others, will be removed from the class by either the judge or the Little International Horse Show Chair. Outside the show ring (e.g., common use areas such as the parking lot or warm-up arena), any rider/animal that is considered to be endangering others will be required to immediately resolve the problem or leave the area. 3. PARTICIPANT NUMBERS: Must be worn attached to the outside of the rider s blouse/shirt/jacket, in the middle of the back, for all judged events. One participant number per one horse/rider combo-no EXCEPTIONS. 4. DRESS CODE FOR PARTICIPANTS: 4a. General restrictions - Tank tops, halter tops, shorts, and bare feet are inappropriate attire for any event at the Little International Horse Show. 4b. Judged events Long-sleeved dress shirts, cowboy/girl hats or hard helmets, and clean pants or jeans are to be worn in all judged events. Shirts, jackets, or other clothing bearing the logo of the participant s farm, stable or association may not be worn so that it is visible to the judge. 5. TACK: must be neat, clean, functional and appropriate to the class. 6. REGISTRATION: 6a. Registration (entry) forms must be filled out completely and clearly. 6b. Registration (entry) deadlines: No entries for a class will be accepted after the beginning of the class prior to the preceding class, i.e. once class #3 is started one can no longer register for class #5. 6c. Registration for the High Point Award (HPA) may be made by class five of the show. High Point Award classes are listed on the Show Bill. 7. CLASSES WITH ONE ENTRY: Classes with only one entry will be combined with another class or canceled at the discretion of the Little International Horse Show Chair. Exception: Lead-Line classes with one entry will still be held. 8. CLASS SPLITTING: Any class with 20 or more participants will be split. 9. PARTICIPATION MORE THAN ONCE IN A CLASS by the same animal is not permitted. 2

10. NOVICE CLASS PARTICIPATION: To be eligible to show in a novice class, the rider/horse combination must have earned less than 3 first place awards in novice or a point class version of that event. The rider/horse combination is no longer eligible for novice classes after their 3 rd first place finish. 11. LEAD-LINE CLASSES: include classes for beginning riders (6 years of age and younger) who are assisted by a handler 18 years of age or older with written permission of parent or guardian. The young riders are judged on ability to handle an animal at a walk or jog, turn left/right/stop/back and may be asked questions about tack, equine anatomy etc. Animals are required to have a halter and lead, either over or under bridle. Reins must be secured in a way that they cannot fall to the ground if dropped. Riders may be helped in any way to maintain safety, but it is intended that the rider perform as independently as possible. The more independent riders will place ahead of those needing more assistance. Junior Junior participants cannot double enter into Lead-Line classes. 12. ANIMAL ABUSE will not be tolerated. A participant, who, in the opinion of the show chair, abuses an animal will be reprimanded, disqualified and removed from a class or the show grounds at the discretion of the Show Chair. 13. AGE OF RIDER AND ANIMAL will be as of Jan. 1 of the current year. 14. TIMERS: In case of timer failure, the competitor will be given a rerun. 15. JUDGE S DECISIONS are final in all judged classes. All requests by the judge (i.e. patterns, questions, gaits, backing) must be honored. HIGH POINT AWARD RULES 16. HIGH POINT AWARD POINTS Those events whose points count toward the High Point Award (HPA) are indicated on the show bill. Only those participants who register for the HPA competition will be considered for the HPA. Participants must register for the HPA by class five of the show. The top six finishers in each class will receive points toward the HPA if they have so registered. 1 st place receives 6 points, 2 nd place receives 5 points, etc. If there are fewer than six competitors, the highest number of points will equal the number of participants in the class with one less point for each lower finisher. (e.g. if only 3 entries, 1st place receives 3 points, 2 nd place receives 2 points, etc.). No points will be granted to an animal that is disqualified. 17. TIE FOR HIGH POINT AWARD POINTS If, at the end of the show, there is a tie for numbers of points for the high point award, the High Point Award will be awarded the participant who had the most first place finishes. If still tied, the one who received the most second place finishes will be awarded the High Point Award and so on until one of the tied participants has more of that level of ribbons. 3

If that process does not resolve the tie, the tied participant who entered the fewest classes will be awarded the High Point Award. 18. CHALLENGES FOR HIGH POINT AWARD: Questions and challenges regarding the recording/listing of points for events must be made within 30 minutes of the end of the morning, session for that morning s classes, or within 30 minutes of the end of the afternoon session, for that afternoon s classes. After 30 minutes following the show completion, the results are final and may not be appealed. EVENT RULES 19. HALTER CLASSES: Classes will be judged on conformation, fitting, conditioning, soundness, way of going, and manners. Placements in halter classes do not count towards High Point Award points. 20. SPOTTED HALTER: Animal may have white above the knees, excluding facial white. Apps, paints, pintos, etc. The white must be visible from a distance of 20 feet. 21. GRAND & RESERVE HALTER CHAMPIONS: The grand champion halter animal will be chosen from those animals that placed first and second in their respective classes. Once the grand champion is chosen, the second place animal in the grand champion s class will be considered with the remaining animals for selection as the reserve champion. High point award points are not granted for this class. 22. SHOWMANSHIP: Judged on proper attire & equipment used for animal and exhibitor. Exhibitor judged on his or her ability to show animal to its best advantage until the judge indicates that all competitors may relax. Each person showing an animal is being judged from the time he/she enters the show ring until the judge indicates that the competition is completed. Patterns may be posted at the discretion of the judge. 23. EQUITATION, HORSEMANSHIP: Appropriate attire and tack must be used. This class judges the rider. Riders may be asked questions or be asked to perform a pattern. 24. PLEASURE CLASSES: May be shown in English or western tack, unless otherwise stated. Appropriate attire and tack must be used. This class will be judged on performance of the animal. Participants will be asked to walk/trot/canter and possibly hand gallop in both directions of the arena. Competitors may also be asked to change directions of the arena at a walk or trot, but not at a canter. 25. WALK/TROT PLEASURE CLASSES: May be shown in English or western tack, unless otherwise stated. Appropriate tack and attire must be used. This class is judged on performance at the walk & trot or gait in both directions of the arena. Riders may be asked to back and/or do a pattern. 26. REINING: Proper tack and attire required. This class is judged on performance of the horse. The pattern will be posted, by the judge, on the day of the horse show. 4
