REPORT FOR SATURDAY 14TH JULY Store Cattle - 67 A strong trade on strong cattle with prices topping at 1120 for Robert Munns, who entered 14 Charolais steers, 20 months, with others at 1110, 1100 and 1050; RW Rutt topped at 940 for a 16 month Blonde steer; Will Robinson entered two Hereford steers, 21 months, which topped at 920, and topping the heifers at 860 with three 20 month Herefords; David Hancock had a 100% clearance today, topping at 1025 for three 25 month Charolais steers, and 950 for a 21 month British Blue steer, with plenty of others selling for more than expected; Andrew Geary entered two very smart Limousin cattle, a 9 month steer which topped at 870 and a 12 month heifer which topped at 730. A 6 year old Beef Shorthorn bull topped at 700 for C Marler. Not very busy around the ring, but everyone is a buyer. If you have some to sell please contact Alastair, who can inform potential buyers. Calves - 21 A good show of calves and stirks this week. K & A Badrick topped the sale with a 3 week old British Blue bull at 300, a younger, smaller Blue topped at 225, and their 3 week old Blue heifer topped at 250; Tim Burton showed the rest with 3 month old Aberdeen Angus bulls topping at 250, a Welsh Black heifer sold to 250, and a 6 week old Aberdeen Angus sold to 190, Tim s entry of Black and White bulls, 3 weeks to 3 months old, sold to 70 from 30. Buyers still looking for calves throughout the year, if you have some to sell, we have the buyers. Store & Breeding Sheep - 125 The first real entry of store lambs today saw buyers ever present, but cautious due to the very dry weather. Rain desperately needed to improve the store trade, but vendors were pleased with returns on the day. Trade topped at 60.50 for Texels from Melvyn Palfreyman; with a level run of lambs from Richard Garley topping at 51 twice, firstly for a pen of Texels and then for a pen of Suffolks; other pens of Texels from this run sold to 50 and 48. REPORT FOR THURSDAY 12TH JULY Sheep numbers shorter today at 1106 head to see a very two tier trade. Lambs now really showing the effects of the hot weather. Meat was at an absolute premium, with buyers looking for lambs at 41kg plus. Best lambs 185p/kg-204p/kg with leaner types a lot harder to place at 160p/kg-170p/ kg. Prime Lambs - 1009 Sold to 88 or 204p/kg Trade back, as has been the case nationally, with reports of slow sales both home and abroad. An SQQ today of 175.23p/kg and All In 172.6p/kg. It s the Summer Lamb Show this Thursday, pens of five of any weight and breed. Standards (32.1kg-39kg) Sold to 72 or 185p for 39kg Beltex from JF Burbidge & Son.
