The Three Festivals Tall Ships Regatta 2018 Liverpool Dublin and homeward bound to Cardiff

The Three Festivals Tall Ships Regatta 2018 1000 vessels around the world take part in sail training, and around 25 of them will meet in the Three Festival Tall Ships Race 2018. It is expected just under 500 young people will be part of this event (as crew) with hundreds of thousands of visitors expected to descend on the cities involved. Representing Wales, will be Adventure Wales. This will be Adventure Wales first event and first Tall Ships race since being owned by the Challenge Wales charity. Tall Ships races and events are about young people, adventure, social responsibility, environmental awareness and concern, heritage and scale - all this set against a stunning backdrop of vessels, beautiful ports and a fever of festival excitement. They are also the largest spectator event in the world! This voyage will be life-changing Are you ready to join us?! www.challengewales.org 029 20 704657

The Three Festivals Tall Ships Regatta 2018 In 2018 the Three Festivals Tall Ships Race is starting in the UK (Liverpool). It will be a race from Liverpool to Dublin (Ireland), over a few days by racing to different way point in the Irish sea. While some of the Tall Ships fleet will then race to Bordeaux (France), Adventure Wales will depart from Dublin with the fleet before sailing non-stop to Cardiff where we plan to meet the Volvo Ocean Race vessels. The race leg on Adventure Wales is open to those aged 16 25 years, and in most cases bursary funding is available to subsidise the 10 day voyage. Adventure Wales will be racing against the Tall Ships fleet, there will be non-stop sailing before heading into port for Tall Ships celebrations. The Adventure Wales crew, with the other tall ships crews, will parade around the streets in the famous crew parade before trainees (that s you) share their sail training stories. The Three Festivals Tall Ships Races is an opportunity to meet young people from all over the world, it s a great adventure and talking point to add to your CV too! www.challengewales.org 029 20 704657

The Three Festivals Tall Ships Races 2018 In 2012 the Challenge Wales charity took Challenge Wales Wales Tall Ship to her first ever Tall Ships event (this was a race from Dublin to Liverpool) and it was estimated that 1.15 million people descended on Dublin alone for the event. It is fantastic that the first young persons voyage and Tall Ships event that Adventure Wales is taking part in is the Three Festivals Tall Ships Regatta from Liverpool to Dublin. A Tall Ships event is perfect for those who haven t sailed before or those who are looking for a longer, and sometimes challenging, adventure. What people have said about a Tall Ships Race voyage: The crew aboard challenge were amazing, extremely friendly and patient while teaching us new skills such as knot tying and manning the helm. Sophie (age 18) I made new friends and saw new places, I learned so much, both about sailing and about life. Ronan (age 20) I will forever cherish the memories, lessons and friends that I was lucky enough to have during my time on board. Jessie-May (age 18) Being surrounded by all of the Tall Ships was incredible, the sight was unbelievable and the atmosphere was completely different from what I had experienced on different trips. Rhiannon (age 19)

The Three Festivals Tall Ships Races 2018 The 60ft two-masted shooner, Adventure Wales, was built for adventure and over the years she has circumnavigated the world, won First in Class in the famous Round the Island Race, raced in numerous transatlantic activities and taken part in the international Tall Ship Races. More recently she has been used in outreach work provinding teamwork and leadership opportunities with disadvantaged people. You will be joining up to 9 other trainees and guided by the Adventure Wales crew you will be getting involved in all aspects of sailing; hoisting the sails, changing the sails, preparing dinner and cooking, cleaning, helming the boat and racing the boat competitively. Whatever you are doing, you will be part of the crew and will be working as a close-knit team. Whether this is the first time you have sailed or are experienced, this is the perfect opportunity to learn new skills and have an experience that you will never forget. Remember, the prices overleaf are the full price before any bursary funding is applied! Additional bursary funding can reduce the voyage cost between 10-100%. Our funding pages in this document will help show you how.

The Three Festivals Tall Ships Regatta Race: Liverpool to Dublin 27 th May 2 nd June Homeward bound: Dublin to Cardiff 3 rd - 5 th June 10 Days When you join the boat you will meet all the other trainees and crew onboard Adventure Wales and spend time learning the ropes and socialising. Before the race starts you will take part in the Crew Parade, representing Adventure Wales, which will be watched by thousands of people. The start of the Three Festival Tall Ships Races 2018 is from the UK, Liverpool, and we will race across the Irish sea. You will be working in watches as Adventure Wales will race through the day and night. The Tall Ships will take over the city of Dublin, in Ireland and the event also includes the Dublin Port River Fest! In Dublin, there will be another crew parade, crew party and crew sporting and cultural activities. We will then depart Dublin with the Tall Ships fleet and Adventure Wales will sail back to Cardiff. Cost of voyage - 750* *Check out our funding page to see how to fund your voyage and what bursary is available to you. Challenge Wales The Charity The charity is run predominantly by volunteers and relies on adult sailing voyages and longer adventures to help fund the charity as well as donations and trusts. These activities help create an bursuary fund. The charity, which has been operating for 9 years, operate two sailtrainings vessels, Challenge Wales and Adventure Wales. Challenge Wales has public insurance and all insurances to take part in the voyage and Tall Ships Races. The charity is an approved activity provider for the DofE award, and in 2017 won UK sail training vessel of the year. Updated Ref: v1 06.01.17

Adventure Wales What is Adventure Wales? The yacht Adventure Wales (pictured above) is a sail training vessel based in Cardiff, South Wales and operated by the Challenge Wales charity. She is 60 foot ocean-going sailing boat in Wales. She has sailed around the world and is now used to help young people (aged 12 25 years) from the UK develop social and personal skills through sail training. We put them in a challenging, and often alien environment, where they learn about teamwork, leadership, discipline, respect for others and help develop their literacy and numeracy skills. If you are 18 or over when you sail with us, you can use your voyage as a qualifying trip and volunteer with us the following year. Check out our website for further details on volunteering. We re looking forward to more success in the Three Festivals Tall Ships Races 2018 and hope you can join us! Updated Rev v1 6.3.18
