POOL HIGHLIGHTS Labor Day Cornhole Winners Expert Division 1st Phil Claiborne, Chad Boughner 2nd Rick Hall, Mike Claiborne WELLNESS There are plenty of good reasons to be physically active. Big ones include reducing the odds of developing heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. Maybe you want to lose weight, lower your blood pressure, prevent depression, or just look better. Here s another one, which especially applies to those of us experiencing the brain fog that comes with age: exercise changes the brain in ways that protect memory and thinking skills. In a study done at the University of British Columbia, researchers found that regular aerobic exercise, the kind that gets your heart and your sweat glands pumping, appears to boost the size of the hippocampus, the brain area involved in verbal memory and learning. Resistance training, balance and muscle toning exercises did not have the same results. (Havard Health Letter, 4/5/18) Get physically active at your beautiful club. Here are a few ways to get involved: Walking Wednesday and Friday 8:00 am walk the back 9 of the golf course Golf Beginner Golf Clinic Friday 9:00 am No Drills, Just Games Tennis Thursday 9:00 am Cardio Tennis Tuesday and Friday 9:00 am, Wednesday 6:00 pm Pickleball Wednesday 6:00 pm Cornhole Winners Novice Division 1st Ashley Winkle, Cindy Ott 2nd Brenda Lawhern & Vanessa Gough COMMUNICATIONS How do you find out what is happening at the club? Is it through the newsletter, emails, texts, bulletin boards, Facebook or Instagram? Yes, you can find out about upcoming events at the club through any or all of these avenues. If you currently do not receive the emails or texts and would like to be added please call, text or email me at 256-627-8965 or pclaiborne@tpycc.org. Build Your Own Boat Winners Congratulations to Caleb and Benji Fisher for their great boat that they built. Cornhole Winners 1st Jon Walt Methvin, AJ Karr 2nd Caleb Fisher and Benji Fisher

FROM THE MANAGER Mark Grisham General Manager Summer is coming to an end and what a great summer we have had here at Turtle Point again! This time last year we were coming off a record summer season with a net positive of 22 new members for the year and this year we added another 6 to that total. Members are the lifeblood of any Club and we have seen positive growth over the past 2 years. This is a direct reflection of you, the member, and how much you love this Club. But the year isn t over yet. As long as the weather allows we will be having Pigskins at the Pool and the Tiki Bar open Saturday and Sunday afternoon. We all know this is the best time of the year to play golf. The course is reaping the benefits of cooler weather and will be at its optimum playing condition right now, so bring your friends and show off this beautiful setting we have here if you are with a prospective member let me know and we will help make it a special day out for both of you. Our House Committee has re-worded our dress code to reflect the changing times and is approved as follows: Dress for the Main Dining Room should be a collared shirt and no shorts, except on Sundays then a jacket for all men over 25 will be required. We all appreciate the adherence to these policies as they help keep your club elevated to the standards it was designed for. Thank you for all you do to promote and help make this the best it can possibly be and remember to make your dining reservations and plan your Christmas parties early so we can be prepared to deliver you a great experience. As always if there is anything I can do for you please don t hesitate to call. October is finally upon us, leaves are starting to fall, and cool temperatures are just around the corner. The greens are finally about to heal from the extremely hot summer that we had, and we are mainly concentrating on leaf removal. This is also the time of year we treat for spring dead spot. Spring dead spot is a fungus that attacks the root system of intensely maintained bermudagrass and symptoms don t appear until spring green up. Turtle Point has one of the worse cases of spring dead spot that I have ever seen. (1184) Therefore, we treat the Tee s and Fairway s each year. There are many products that are labeled for spring dead spot, but many times the results are inconsistent with the products that we can afford. However, last year we had great results with one of the low-cost products. So, we are going to try our luck with it again this year. Leaf clean up will usually last up to the second week in December. Once that is complete we will start working on projects. This year we will continue to work on trees and replacing cart paths that are desperately in need of repair. As always please remember to fix your ball mark, fill your divot and obey the cart rules. With your help in these matters the golf course staff and the person playing behind you will appreciate it.
