Exeter Starlites Elite Junior/Senior Team 2015/2016 Welcome Pack and Tryout Information

Welcome to Exeter Starlites Elite!! Thank you for showing an interest in our Competition Team for the upcoming year. We re really excited to welcome you into the team. Annual tryouts are held for the Exeter Starlites Elite Competition Team for cheerleaders aged 10 yrs old and above: Tryouts Date: Saturday 12th September Time: 7-8pm Location: Main Gym, Exeter Gymnastic Club What you need to bring: Cheerleading appropriate clothing, indoor cheer trainers (if you have them)and enthusiasm! You will also need to bring your Registration Form, Code of Conduct and Waiver Agreement. This will be an informal tryout to assess ability, attitude and potential. So come along and have fun! You will be informed individually at the end of the session whether or not you have been successful, it is preferred for you to have a parent/ guardian with you for this if you are under 16 yrs old. If you are successful, training will begin with the Elite team from Saturday 26th September (week 1 of the new term) The levels within the Elite team varies from level 2 & 3 in Stunt Routines and Level 3 Cheerleading, although depending on the skill set attendance to tryouts this could change. Tryout Requirements Tryouts will include: A dance routine and selection of jumps of which will be advised by the Head Coach on the day. You DO NOT have to prepare anything in advance. A demonstration of your stunting ability these can be anything you have previously done, they do not have to be of a specific stunt sequence. A demonstration of your standing and running tumble ability If you re concerned about this don t be whatever you can do is good enough. Your coaches are: Head Coach - Jennie-marie Packham (UKCA level 4) Gymnastics Coach - Scarlet Reid (BG level 3) Assistant Coach - Tracy Catlin (UKCA level 2) Assistant Coach - Sara Hole - Occasional cover for above coach absence (UKCA level 3) Team Training Venue: We train at Exeter Gymnastics Club, Bull Meadow Park, Exeter, EX2 4JF Strength & Gymnastics Training - Fridays 7.00-9.30pm Routine, choreography and stunt training - Saturdays 4.30pm - 8.00pm

Competitions The competitions we will be entering this year are: UKCA Nationals - 14th/15th May 2016, Manchester Velodrome, Manchester Exeter Cheer Festival - Oct 2016, Exeter. We will also be doing a Cheer Showcase on the weekend prior to UKCA Nationals and several Displays and Carnivals throughout the year. Dates, Times, Venues to be confirmed. But you will be expected to be available for the majority of these unless on holiday. There will also be extra training sessions in the run up to both competition's These training sessions will usually be in the 2/3 weeks run up before each competition and are usually on Sundays, dates to be confirmed nearer the time. Costs As I m sure you re all aware there is a lot involved in the cost of cheerleading with competitions, training etc. Here is a cost breakdown of the year. Training Costs: Annual membership and Insurance Fee 15.00 Training Fees are invoiced on a 10 week term at 92.00 per term. This equates to 5.5 hours training at 9.20 per week Uniforms; Training T Shirt - 6.60 Training Shorts - 7.50-10 depending on size. Competition/Display Uniforms cost approx 90.00 for the current design. You will also need Nfinity cheerleading trainers, which cost between 58.00 and 70.00 depending on size. Competition entry; UKCA Nationals 20 per cheerleader per routine (Allow for x3 routines, Stunt, Cheerleading & Pom Dance) Exeter Cheer Festival 20.00 day entry These monies will be due a few months before each competition. You will be sent an invoice via e- mail for comp fees before the deadline date and an approximate costs letter for travel and hotel for the National comp, during April. Approx Travelling Expenses for UKCA Nationals: Coach Costs = 35.00 per person Hotel Costs = 50.00 per room per night (2 nights required) All team members must travel on the coach provided, however parents/supporters may also travel on the coach, if there are available seats, or make your own way. All team members under 14 yrs must have an accompanying adult with them to Nationals and an over 18 yr old in each hotel roomshare.

Code of Conduct 2015/2016 Cheerleading is a team sport and, as such, everyone must be aiming to work together to achieve the same goals. This code of conduct allows us to all work together in a friendly and productive environment to progress to the best of our ability. As a member of Exeter Starlites Elite I agree to: Attend all training sessions. o In your absence your team is unable to train fully. So, we expect you to be able to be organised and organise your homework/coursework/deadlines/jobs and social life around this. Excused Absence Graded School Event Illness with fever/vomiting Family death/serious illness Family Holiday Unexcused Absence Birthdays Family/friend celebrations/parties Homework/Revising o Attend all competition listed in the welcome pack. o Holidays Holidays may not be taken in the 4 weeks leading up to any competition. o We will operate the three strikes rule this season. If you miss a session due to an unacceptable reason you will be issued a strike. If you get three strikes there will be a penalty. o If you know you are going to be absent please inform you coach as far in advance as possible No training is to be missed in the 4 weeks prior to competition without exceptional circumstance. Understand that I represent Exeter Starlites Elite at all times and will act accordingly. Keep my body healthy and will not show up to training with self inflicted illness. Be a good role model for other cheerleaders and show good sportsmanship. Be supportive of my team mates in progressing their skills and encourage them at all times. Not gossip about anyone within the team. Be polite and courteous to and about other teams and their squad members. Not let personal problems affect training. Accept that the coaches decisions are final. Pay all my fees on time. Accept that should I choose to leave the team or are asked to leave the team due to failure to comply with the above code all money previously paid to Exeter Starlites will not be refunded, this includes but is not limited to; uniform, training fees, and competition fees. Any concerns you have with these are to be brought up outside of training hours. I understand that by signing the following agreement I must follow the code stated above. Parent Authorisation Waiver/Release Form In consideration of, myself / my child, being allowed to participate in any way in the Exeter Starlites Elite Cheerleading program, related events and activities, the undersigned acknowledges, appreciates, and agrees to the following: I realise that cheerleading is a vigorous physical activity that involves running, jumping, kicking, lifting and rotation; coordinated body movements (tumbling, gymnastic skills, etc.). I understand that participation in cheerleading involves certain inherent risks and that regardless of the precautions taken by the Exeter Starlites Elite Cheerleading Program or the participants some injuries may occur. These injuries include but are not limited to: 1. Sprains, strained muscles 2. Broken bones, dislocated joints 3. Permanent disability 4. Quadriplegia 5. Death These injuries may result from hazards such as but not limited to: 1. Stepping on uneven ground 2. Falling or being dropped by team mate 3. Being struck or run into by a team mate Adhering to the following safety rules may lessen the likelihood of such injuries: 1. Wear clothes that allow you to move freely. 2. Wear appropriate cheer shoes/trainers/bare feet. 3. Keep hair off shoulders (wear in pony tail, etc.) 4. Do not wear jewellery (earrings, rings, bracelets, necklaces, etc.) 5. Properly warm up before practices or competitions. 6. No stunting without a coach or adult spotter s help. 7. No "horseplay" during stunt practices or competitions. 8. No derogatory posting on any social networking sites (e.g. Facebook, twitter etc.) towards the Exeter Starlites Squad, team mates or any other cheerleader/ team (this will result in removal from the team). 10. No Bullying. I willingly agree to comply with the program's stated and customary terms and conditions for participation. In order to properly protect my own/ my child s safety and that of fellow participants, I agree to follow these rules as well as any others that may be given by my own/ my child s coach, official, of Exeter Starlites Elite Cheerleading Program. Further, in recognition of the importance of shared responsibility for safety, I will remove myself / my child and immediately report any noted deviations from the safety rules as well as any observed hazardous conditions or equipment to the coach, or the named person in charge of Exeter Starlites Elite Cheerleading Program. I HAVE CAREFULLY READ THE FOREGOING DOCUMENT. I HAVE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO ASK QUESTIONS AND HAVE THEM ANSWERED. I AM CONFIDENT THAT I FULLY KNOW, UNDERSTAND, AND APPRECIATE THE RISKS INVOLVED IN ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN CHEERLEADING. Having been informed of the above, I / I the parent of the above-named registrant do hereby give my approval of my own/ my child s participation in any and all of the activities during the current 2015-2016 season. In case of injury to myself/ my child, I HEREBY WAIVE ALL CLAIMS against the organisers, the sponsors, or any of the supervisors appointed by them. I am voluntarily requesting permission for myself/ my child to participate and compete.
