Hello fellow Cowtown Mopar members. My first topic this month is Mark Buchannan. My thanks go out to Mark for all he has done for the club. He not only served as President for the last 3 years but also served for many years before after taking a 3 year break from April 2008 till April 2011. Mark puts everything he has into everything he does. This past year he not only was our President but also President of TMCCC and our Race Team coordinator. Thank you Mark for all the hard work you have done. I have some big shoes to follow in this coming year. Our Annual Car Show is now over and we had a fair turnout. I hope more of our members will get more active in our activities in the near future. I noticed we were missing a majority of our Race Team at the show and hope to see more of you at the next one. The cars we had were a great mix of Mopars and we had several clubs represented. There were some great looking cars and the weather was great. Mother Nature has not been very cooperative with the TMCCC so far this year. We have had 3 races scheduled and 1 reschedule but have only been able to race once. Hopefully Mother Nature will give TMCCC a break. I know we need the rain but it could come during the week and leave the weekend alone. I hope to make this a fun year for all of us. Please feel free to let me know of any suggestions and I will take them to the Board and see what we can do. I hope to see all of you at our next meeting at Bill Boon s shop (Texas Trailer Man). Hello again folks, From The Veep s Desk The car show was fun, for me at least. Saw a bunch of nice cars, kudos to Dan s granddaughter for taking pictures for me and thanks to all the judges for a job well done. Looking forward to working with Mike as he assumes the office of president. Will admit am gonna miss Mark being pres, seemed like a fixture at times. Well, I don t have my J-10 on the road yet, but got a bunch of underhood stuff powder coated thanks to the expertise of our multi-talented Kirk Maisenbacher. My street is really torn up now (construction), then find out the city is going to cut our trees down. Oh well, they are supposed to give us vouchers for seedlings to replant. Has anyone seen the new 2015 Charger? Looks like a stretched, more muscular Dart, really nice in my opinion. The Challenger didn t get much changed, just a few refinements. I wish they would make it slightly smaller, would look really good then. Don t forget we have the picnic coming up at Bills and the PDC show. Looking forward to seeing everyone at both places. Off The Wing by Barry Hansen Sad, very sad dept can t believe we are two months into the TMCCC season and managed to pull off only one race thus far. Mother nature does not want Cowtown to defend its title. I was in such denial that poor Mark had to go over the calendar Sunday by rainy Sunday to convince me. This Sunday (Mar 27 Denton) is again threatened by bad weather. Here s hoping for good weather. Mega Mopars at the Motorplex had bad weather Fri, great weather Sat and Sun. Car show went smoothly thanks to our own Dave Mandato, his meticulous planning and organizing. Not so good for racing as they continued well after midnight what the hey! The next day at the Motorplex the TMCCC went much more smoothly. Ken Angyal was on his game with the great food. Rich Lemmon and I sat in the shade of a trailer and philosophized for hours, now we have an answer for everything, just ask us. Good weather, great day for our annual Allen Samuels Car Show. Lots of fun, lots of great cars. Thanks to Susan s registration and Dave s judging the show went off almost without a hitch. NHRA report skipping over the Charlotte Four Wide Nationals (not pretty for any of our Mopars) and moving on to the Houston Spring Nat s. Fast Jack Beckman, Charger, AA/FC runnerup, Allen Johnson, Dart, Pro Stock runner-up. I have to rig an election er ah I mean I m a precinct judge for the runoff election May 10 so I will miss this month s Cowtown Cars and Coffee and with much regret will miss the May picnic at Bill Boone s. Breaks my heart not getting to sample Ken s pulled pork. Ken how about a doggy bag say the size of a 30 quart ice chest? I will be at the PDC picnic the next Sat, May 17. How about you? Always a good time, good food, the price is right free. Mopar spotting TV show NCIS LA, the gov t cars as in the original NCIS are Chargers, couple of the main characters personal cars, new Challengers. I like Mopar you like Mopar if you don t like Mopar you re so lame (with apologies to Cartman)

Tech Tips Both the 8.25 and 9.25 axles require an adjusting tool for setting the preload on the differential carrier bearings. The same tool can be used for both axle types. Unfortunately it can cost $80-100. But do not fret! There is a cheap alternative. For about $18 you can build your own. Materials are easy to come by at your local hardware store: One 36 black steel pipe, 1 in diameter. Two 1 lock nuts. In my case, since the threads did not match, I simply ground the pipe threads off the pipe and nut, and then hammered them together. I threw on a quick weld, although it probably wasn t necessary. One nut sits inside the adjuster, the other is used to put a wrench on to set the preload. This tool can also be built by using 1 inch all thread, and putting double nuts on both ends, or single nuts that are welded. In my case, the black pipe was easier to come by, and my welder is always handy. Kirk From the Allen Samuels Car Show, Sat April 19... Once again, a big success. The weather was perfect. Lots of fellowship. Lots of great cars. Lots of class winners. Free food. What s not to like? The list of winners is long and distinguished. Cowtown Mopar club members in bold.
