Fair Information Pre-Entry Forms for 4-H, FFA (and Open Class Livestock) DUE July 6th. Pre- entry forms for ALL items to be entered at the York County Fair, including 4-H Contests, Clothing, Home Environment, Horticulture, Livestock, Small Animals, Open Class Livestock, etc. were mailed to 4-Her s based on their enrolled projects. Forms are also available online at www.york.unl.edu and at the Extension office. These forms must be returned to the Extension Office by Friday, JULY 6th for ALL entries. There is no penalty if pre-entered items do not end up at the fair. Stall/pen requests are also on the Livestock Pre-Entry form and due July 6th. County Fair Horse Show Reminder that the 4-H County Fair Horse show will again be open to any youth throughout the state. We will follow 4-H rules and dress. The show will be on Sunday, July 29 th and start at 10:00 am. The Show Bill can be found on our website. Please feel free to share with all your friends. If you are enrolled in the horse project in York County and turned in Horse ID sheets, you will be eligible for fair premium and 4-H awards in addition to the open class payouts. The highest placing York County enrolled showmanship winners in Senior and Intermediate divisions will be invited to participate in the Large Animal Round Robin competition on Sunday of fair. Please be sure to check the 2018 York County Fair Book for all Rules, Regulations, Class Information and Schedule of Events. Exhibitor Family Meal Wednesday, August 2 nd 6:00-8:00 pm 4-H Building You are invited to a 4-H meal on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the 4-H Building. Families can sit down and eat or grab and go. This is all 4-H and FFA fair exhibitors and families. 4-H Family Pie Donation Each 4-H Family is asked to furnish at least one pie (two pies would be even better) for the 4-H Food Stand during the fair. These pies support the 4-H Council Food Stand, which remains the only fundraising activity the York County 4-H Council operates for the year. It is asked that the pies be 9 inches in size and fruit pies are preferred as they keep much better than cream pie. Static Exhibit Interview Appointments Static Exhibit Interviewing Judging is OPTIONAL! If a 4-H er chooses to interview judge, there will be a limit of 2 interview items per project area each day. Interview times will only be available from 8:30 a.m. to Noon each day. If you would like your exhibits interviewed, stop at the Extension Office by Thursday, July 26 to make appointments. If you do not sign up for an appointment, we will assume that you are choosing not to interview. Reminder: All Static Exhibits should be checked in by 10:00 a.m. each day! Clover Kids Exhibit Entry Clover Kids interviews will be held on Tuesday, of fair week from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Please stop by the Extension Office by Thursday, July 26 to set up your interview appointment time. Then, on Tuesday, July 31, bring your items to the Home Ec. Building on the Fairgrounds a few minutes prior to your interview appointment time. You will, at that time, let us know what items you will be entering. At your scheduled appointment time, you will have a short interview with the judge so you can tell him/ her why and how you made your exhibit. If you have any questions, call the Extension Office. Fashion Show FRIDAY, July 27, 2018 Cornerstone Building Fashion Show and Clothing Construction Judging will take place from 8:30 a.m.to 2:00 p.m. at the Cornerstone Building. The Public Fashion Show will take place at 7:00 p.m. that evening at the Cornerstone Building. Registrations forms, including narrations, are due July 6. One entry form should be submitted for each outfit. This county contest is open to any 4-H member enrolled in a clothing project. 4-H ers are invited to model their clothing creations or purchased garments. 4-H members may have up to three outfits entered in the Fashion Show. Participation in the Fashion Show includes BOTH modeling for a judge during the day and participation in the public show in the evening. Clothing construction judging will also be offered in conjunction with model judging during the morning events. Clover Kid Showcase Fashion Show Clover Kids may participate in the Fashion Show with their Clover Kid Designs Project at the Public Fashion Show. Limited to one entry per Clover Kid. Items will not be modeled during Clothing Judging Day. Pre-entry required. State Fair In-Person entry All 4-H In-Person entries for the Nebraska Fair will be the responsibility of the 4-H Member and families. This includes contests, livestock and animal entries. Entries will be made directly into the State Fair using the ShoWorks gram. Those entries must be made on line by 8:00 p.m. of Friday, August 10, 2018 Contests Presentation Contest Clover Kid Show & Tell July 17 at 1:00 p.m. Sign up on the fair pre-entry form. Gain valuable communication skills while sharing your favorite subject with others by participating in this event. You can even present with a friend. This contest is open to 4-H ers of any age. 4-H Culinary Challenge July 17 at 9:00 am Sign up on the fair pre-entry form. The 4-H Culinary Challenge Contest is an updated version of the former Favorite Foods and Company s Coming Contests. Those competing in this contest will have the opportunity to advance to State Fair. 4-H ers will plan an occasion for guests. They will plan and write the menu, decide on table service and present it to a judge. 4-Her will prepare at home one food item and bring it with table service and display. Display will be set up independent of adults. Creativity is encouraged. Set-up begins at 8:30 a.m. Judging begins at 9:00 a.m. A complete contest packet can be obtained online at york.unl.edu/ county4h or at the Extension Office. A challenge ingredient is selected each year. The 2018 challenge ingredient is BEEF. Each participant must prepare and incorporate the challenge ingredient into one food item and bring that to the contest. 4-H & FFA Tractor Driving Contest The 4-H / FFA Tractors Driving Contest will be at 5:00 pm, Monday, July 30, 2018 at the fairgrounds in York. Check our website for the courses. Entry for contest must be turned in by July 6th on pre-entry forms. Scholarships York County 4-H Scholarships The Anna Schlechte 4-H Scholarship, J. D. Hirschfeld Family Scholarship and the Kenneth Jorgensen Memorial Scholarship all are due to the Extension Office by July 6. Scholarship application forms and information are available at the York Extension website www.york.unl.edu. These scholarship winners will be recognized at the York County Fair on Thursday night.. Livestock Information County Fair Bedding and Clean Up The York County Ag Society will again provide first bedding for all livestock exhibited at the York County Fair. If you need extra bedding, additional shavings can be purchased for $8.00 a bag, and must be paid for at the time of purchase. Payment needs to be made prior to picking up your bags, and you can do this by paying at the Extension office. Please remember that trash, wires and other debris do not belong in the large roll off dumpster. Please put trash in the proper receptacles. All livestock exhibitors must clean out their stalls/pens and move the bedding to the proper dumpster. Sunday afternoon from 4-6 p.m. is the load out and clean up time. State Fair Livestock & Contest Entry State Fair animal and in-person contest entries are due online by August 10 th. Families will again be responsible for making their own State Fair animal & in-person contest entries online. Youth must be 10 years of age as of Jan. 1 st to exhibit animals at the State Fair. The deadline for getting entries made on the website is Friday, August 10 th by 8:00p.m. At this time, you will designate each animal, 4-H and FFA. Entries not made by this deadline will not be accepted. The ShoWorks program will be available for State Fair Entries starting on July 1st. In addition to entering animals for State Fair, when online, you will also be given the opportunity to purchase: exhibitor pins, gate passes, discount tickets and parking passes.
Animal Reminders Fair Pre-entry: All County Fair exhibit pre-entry forms are due to the Extension Office by July 6th. This includes all large and small animal entries. Bucket calves: Youth exhibiting bucket calves at the county fair need to complete a record book and turn it in to the Extension office by July 21 st. Clover Kids: If you are showing a livestock animal at the fair you must have them tagged and animal entry forms in by July 6th. Remember the animal must weigh under 350 lbs. to be eligible to show. Stall/Pen Assignments: Stall/pen requests are due July 6th on the Livestock pre-entry form. Requests will be taken into consideration, but are based on availability and at the discretion of Extension staff. Please combine animals when possible to allow enough space for all exhibitors. Rabbit ID: All rabbits must be identified on the Livestock Pre-Entry Form by July 6th. Breed and type must be included. All rabbits except fryers and those in the Pet Division will need to have been identified by tattoo on an id sheet by June 15th. If they are not identified by June 15th they will be shown in the Pet Division. Tattoos that have faded or are no longer readable should be re-done prior to County Fair. Animals in Place: All 4-H Animals must be in place for the York County Fair by 9:00 pm on Wednesday, August 1. AK-SAR-BEN Ak-Sar-Ben Livestock Show pre-entries for horses livestock are due August 31, 2018. The Ak-Sar-Ben 4-H Horse Show is set for September at Fonner Park in Grand Island, Nebraska The Ak-Sar-Ben Livestock Show is scheduled September 28-30th at the Nebraska State Fairgrounds in Grand Island. Nebraska State Fair The 2018 Nebraska State Fair Livestock Schedule is now available on the Nebraska State Fair website! Along with the livestock schedule, you can also find Livestock Rules and Regulations, General Information, Health Requirements and Arrival/In Place Schedule. The direct link: http://www.statefair.org/p/getinvolved/4h-ffa. Discounted tickets for the Nebraska State Fair can be purchased through the York County Extension office for $5.00. Orders must be in by Tuesday, August 7. If you are taking animals to state fair you can also purchase these tickets when you do your entries online. FYI, outside gate admission will be $12.00, with $5.00 days on Monday, August 27 and Wednesday, August 29. Tuesday, August 28 will be $2.00 gate admission and Thursday, August 30 will be $3.00 gate admission. Children 6 to 12 will be $3.00 every day and children 5 and under will be free every day. Species that are required to stay at the fair through its entirety translates to clover kid animals as well.
