FALCON ARCHERS Past Flights The Aerie April 2018 Newsletter Famous Archers - Genghis Kahn s Mongolian Army Although not just one archer, it cannot be denied, the Mongolian Army s skill with the bow and arrow. The Mongolian Empire, under Genghis s rule, was the largest contiguous land empire in history. Originating in the steppes of Central Asia, the Mongol Empire eventually stretched from Eastern Europe to the Sea of Japan. Extending northwards into Siberia, eastwards and southwards into the Indian subcontinent, Indochina, and the Iranian plateau. Then westwards as far as the Levant and Arabia. As there was not just one archer to contribute to the success of the Mongols, there was also not only one type of bow or arrow. The Mongol armory was composed of a variety of bows for reaching a multitude of targets. There were even special howling arrows used to disorient the enemy and cause panic.
