Course Etiquette We have added some helpful information regarding divots; pitch marks, and avoiding slow play. Please take the time to read them as there is some useful information. After hitting a great tee shot, nobody likes to find their ball in a divot (see picture below) to help us ensure your great tee shots don t end up like this, please can you replace all divots or use the seed and mix provided at the Clubhouse. Please return the bags so they can be refilled. Right Way: Wrong Way: We have highlighted the right and wrong way to repair pitch marks, a non-repaired pitch mark can take over 3 weeks to repair, where as a repaired pitch mark recovers instantly. Working Together To Avoid Slow Play No golfer enjoys slow play, so Darrington Golf Club would like to work together with all its members and guests to try and speed up certain areas by following the helpful hints listed below. For many of you these may be formalities but are they formalities for every member of your fourball? Please remember that none of these tips are asking golfers to rush their play but simply asking each golfer to be ready to play using common sense and good etiquette on the course. At Darrington Golf Club, we also operate a one plus one pitch mark repair system where we would like all members and guests to repair not only their own pitch mark on the green but one other as well, to ensure we maintain our quality smooth putting surfaces. If a 4 ball with handicaps of 6, 12, 18 and 24 saved just 5 seconds per shot they would knock almost 30 minutes off their round. Arrive at the tee no later than 5 minutes before your tee time. On the tee, pay attention to your partners drives. If they lose sight of their ball, you can help direct them to it and avoid any searching.

Course Etiquette If you are unsure whether your ball has come to rest out of bounds, or may be lost, hit a provisional ball so that you won t have to return to the spot to replay the shot. If you are searching for a lost ball and are willing to spend a few minutes looking for it, allow the group behind to play through if you will be holding them up. When waiting on the tee or the fairway for the group in front to clear the fairway or green, don t be so strict about order of play. Let the short hitter - who can t reach the group ahead anyway - go ahead and play. ALWAYS be ready to play your shot. While exercising due considerations for other players in your group, put your glove on, check your yardage, pick your club and choose your shot while the other players are playing. BE READY TO PLAY. If it is obvious that the group behind are far quicker than your group, maybe they are a 2 ball and you are a 4 ball don t rush to stay in front, just let them play through. At the green, speed up your exit by positioning your bags on the way to the next tee Begin reading the green and lining up putts as soon as you reach the green. Don t wait until it s your turn to putt to start the process of reading the green. Do it as soon as you reach the green so that when it s your turn you can step right up and putt. Mark your scorecard after reaching the next tee, not while lingering on or near the just-completed green. If it s your honour on the tee mark the scorecard after you have hit your tee shot. Be aware of your position with regard to the group in front and try to keep up with that group, if you feel that your group is losing ground, tell the other players in your group. If you have lost ground try to catch up.

Dress Code for Golfers Please follow our dress code guide on how to and not to dress to ensure you are appropriately dressed for the play of golf at your new Club. Caps allowed but no hats on backwards, football shirts or tracksuits. Men s shirts must have collars and sleeves must be tucked in. Please don t wear T-shirts or shirts outside the trousers. Tailored shorts or long trousers, please don t wear sports shorts, combat style trousers, shorts, beach shorts, denim trousers or ¾ length cropped trousers. Long socks or predominantly white short sports socks with shorts DON T wear trousers tucked into socks or shorts with long socks tucked in. Golf shoes only, no trainers.

Club Competitions As a Member of the Club there are numerous competitions to be entered if competitive golf is your thing. Male members fall into one of two categories: Tigers or Rabbits. Tigers are those with handicaps Scratch (or below) to 15. Rabbits are from 16 to 28. Each section has its own summer/winter singles/doubles competitions in addition to an order of merit throughout the year. The sections compete against each other in the annual Ryder Cup match, doubles on a Saturday and singles on the Sunday. There is an active Seniors Section for those over 50; their main competition is played on a Monday. All three sections play against other Clubs in their respective groupings. These fixtures and other information are displayed on their notice boards and the Club General Information Board. Outside of the sections there are the normal Club Tournaments which include various cups and trophies, including the Club Championship played over two days. There is a main Club Competition virtually every Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday. These are played across the scoring systems of Stableford, Medal and Bogey. There are also 4BBB, pairs and mixed competitions. To play in the competitions you will need a handicap. For those new to golf this is obtained by playing three rounds with a current Darrington Golf Club member to score your card. Both parties sign the card and submit it to the Handicap Committee. They allocate a handicap and bring you onto our system for future scores. Our Ladies section (DOES) is very active with the normal internal competitions and plenty of away days at other clubs. We have several Rabbits, Tigers and Does matches where Texas Scramble is the order of the day most enjoyable golf. As you will see there is plenty of opportunity to get involved in competitive golf on a weekly basis. If competition is not your thing then any member can play at any time whether or not a competition is in progress. All the above makes for a friendly yet competitive golfing environment. Each section has a notice board in the main corridor; all information about golf is posted to these boards. We also keep you up to date with quarterly newsletter emails.

A special welcome to all new ladies We have a particularly vivacious Ladies section here at Darrington Golf Club and regular updates on competitions, results and information can be found on our own section of the members area of the website. Gaining a handicap Ladies who do not already have a playing handicap and who wish to obtain one must first of all play 3 rounds of golf with any Member of the Club who holds a current handicap, who should mark their card and sign and date it. Each card should be counter-signed by the player and put into the Ladies Scorecards Box in the Bar for the Handicap Secretary who will then allocate the appropriate handicap and set up the player on the Ladies Computer. Once you have your handicap Darrington Golf Club Ladies Section organise Medal and Stableford Competitions most Tuesdays and Sundays. All ladies who have a current handicap are welcome to play in competitions. Simply write your name on the Day Competition Sheet and put your entry money into an envelope marked with your name, the competition name, e.g. Medal 1, and date and place in box in Locker Room. Log into the competition on the computer in the bar and make out your scorecard with your name, competition, date and handicap. Cards are marked by a member of the Club who holds a current handicap and are signed upon completion of the round. Your score is entered onto the computer. Samples of correctly completed scorecards are in the Yellow Competition Folder, don t risk disqualification by missing anything out! Majors Ladies must have played 3 qualifying competitions within the previous 12 month period before being allowed to enter any of the Majors. Details of all Majors, together with the formats and rules of play can be found in the Yellow Competitions file and all ladies are advised to read this and to check the rules before commencement of the round. Most Majors are played on a Sunday but a few are played on Tuesdays. Everyone is required to play in 3 qualifiers per year to maintain their handicap.
